Audio Technica ATR2100x-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone $97 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Umart

60

Currently on offer for $97 at U-Mart, was looking at microphones and this seems to be a popular choice, given it's typically $130+ at JB Hifi/Amazon I was surprised to see it's usually $119 at U-Mart too.

I haven't tried it out myself but people have spoken positively of this microphone elsewhere and given its dynamic-nature might be better suited to noisier places.

  • I have one of these and use it for work. Word of warning: It needs a lot of power. I'd go so far as to say if you're looking to use it over USB, look elsewhere. It doesn't get loud enough without using other software like equalizer apo to increase the gain (which is just really annoying). I have mine hooked up to a focusrite scarlett solo 3 and have the gain cranked to near 100% so I barely have any wiggle room. I'd suggest getting an interface that can deliver more gain like the pricier Audient interfaces but honestly, you shouldn't have to for such a cheap mic and I'd just say get something else instead. I don't know why they designed it this way.

    • Dynamic microphones should be used about an inch or two from your mouth, being USB powered should make no difference to the gain.

      • I'm well aware of how dynamic mics work. There is no way to get output out of this mic over USB that's loud enough without yelling without some sort of post processing. That's fine if you're recording into a DAW or something, but if like me you're just using it for work calls, it's not.

        • Might be faulty, I've had the 2100 version for 5+ years easily and never had an issue using it for discord etc. You do have to turn the gain up in Windows if you are using it on a PC as it's set low by default (at least mine was).

    • I've got a Behringer UM2 that has XLR input, would that work?

    • What do you mean by power? Watts?
