    16 kg steel frame
    Fair price $70

    • +8

      Heavier the better! Downhill only

      • +5

For that price you can leave it at the bottom of the hill! Don't place it in waterways!

    • +1

      steel is better than Aluminum
what makes it cheap is 3x7 and V-brakes.

      • +4

        I grew up with v-brakes.

        Theyre good enough!

edit: Wow, I have not seen a bike with v brakes in like 20 years.

      • eh v-brakes are fine. i'd be more worried about the build quality of other components than the fact that it has v-brakes. this thing's going to suck to ride before you touch the brakes.

a $500 entry-level (or used!) bike from a decent brand with v-brakes would be great. my partner has one, it's absolutely fine.

plus, if you're going to buy a cheap bike like this (and no problem with doing so!), you're probably not going to be doing mountain biking. that being the case i think this is a bad product. by virtue of being a mountain bike it has added components which waters down the budget available to make a profit on it = cheaper components. plus, riding a bike with fat tires and a shock absorber on paved surfaces is just inefficient. a cheap hybrid would be way better to ride if you're just using it for that.

        steel is better than Aluminum

        On a MTB?? How so?

        • +1

Steel dropouts on the frame (rear) can be re-aligned if required. Same for the steel fork dropouts.
Can't be done with aluminium or carbon.

          • @Speckled Jim: So what you really mean is "Steel is better than Aluminium for cheap department store BSOs"

When was the last time you had to realign the dropout on a competently manufactured bicycle that wasn't being abused?

            • @boozed:

When was the last time you had to realign the dropout on a competently manufactured bicycle…

Honestly, a couple of months ago! It was that SCA Enforcer thing with bottom-rung forks.

              that wasn't being abused?

In 2010 I was jumping it a bit without apparent issue. However, when I went to ride it regularly again, found there was front disc rubbing. Eventually checked the fork dropouts. Sure enough they were out a bit.
              Easily fixed!

I have two other bikes, one with Zoom, the other with Suntour forks. They're both alu frames though. So front-end tweaks I'm not too concerned with.

              • @Speckled Jim: Ehhhhh… arguably riding that thing is a form of abuse

                • @boozed: It's okay if you don't mind tinkering now and then. Took it on a beginner, gentle downhill trail. Rocks, tree roots etc. Was a bit rough. The pedals are usual cheap plastic, and one of them cracked. Found cast aluminium AliE jobbies for $10 and they're good. Better that than the bottom bracket going out of round.
Again, a slight tweak to forks but rear dropouts looked good.

Bikes like this are for paved, gravel and grass, preferably with minimal climbs as there's no suspension lockout on mine.

Edit: just reviewed the bike in deal. Forks look identical to the shitters on my Enforcer ^^

what size for a tall 8 year old?

    • +2

Did you look at the size guide? Works on height so get 8yo height and then base in the size guide. It's what I did so hopefully it works out :-D

    • +1

Don't think he/she is going to fit on a men's (adult) bike just yet.

    • +1

      24 inch

    • I was looking for 9 yr old, based on height, extra small version of this bike is needed. But i could not find an extra small size at all.

    • +2

They do have a proper mountain bike with decent components for a reasonable price on clearance

There's a size guide on the product page… why would you put it on us to guess an unseen person's height, consult the page, and tell you?

    • +1

      3/3.5 inches max

  • Comes in at $148.99 for me with the delivery as no local stock, is this still a decent deal with the delivery charge? Need a bike for the kid, and I'm sick of Big W quality - are these better?

  • There's also an e-bike for $999 for club members.

  • is this for adults or children

  • +2
  • +1

is it delivered built or we have to put it together?

    • +1

Usually minor assembly required (fitting wheels, seat, connecting brake cables etc)

  • +2

Have built hundreds of these bikes. Im guessing they are overstocked atm. cost price is around the $100 mark

  • People still buy bikes? I see heaps of perfect bikes going off to scrap metal/ hard rubbish. Got 4 myself and need to turf some.
Put a wanted add on a buy nothing group etc on FB.

    • +6

$99 brand new decent looking bike here or deal with people from FB for $0… Hmm which is the better bargain?

      • +2

I don't have a spare hunge to be honest. The norm is "bikes out the front, help yourself." Pretty sad to see some bikes I recon have never been ridden getting thrown in a scrap metal truck. But I guess $99 for new, cant be assed is the norm now.

    • +5

FB marketplace bikes are so overpriced and provide such poor information that you might as well buy new

      • +1

Agree, feel like 99% of people don't know what info to put on their listing. Safer just to give the original link or save the spec details for the future :/

"Fluid Express Men's Mountain Bike is designed for a huge range of terrain including road, paths, grass, and light gravel. "….

LOL who wrote that? they missed out on mud, ice rink, car park, roof tops, bridges, corn fields, horde of zombie and fields of dead unicorns…

What other places can you ride this bike on (and not other bikes?)

Looking forward to the giant thread of ideas…

    • Mountains?

    • Lol I thought the same. My shoes are designed for a huge array of terrain..carpet,grass,sand,road,tiles,slabs,driveway…even light gravel..
So basically it's a cheap bike like every other one on normal surfaces

Large is OOS - no stock of medium in Tasmania at all.

  • Oos

  • Large is OOS. They seem to only use Frame size.. What Wheel size do you get for a 17"/18" Frame?

    • +1

      Product page specifies 26 inch

      • What does the size represent here? All sizes say 26in frame but dimensions as

        Small 39 cm
        Medium 46 cm
        Large 51 cm

        Dimensions of what?

        • The 26 inch reference is the diameter of the wheels.

The 39/46/51cm is the length of the "seat tube" in the frame. Which is the bit that goes from where the pedals are to where the seat pole slides into.

          https://uploads-cdn.omnicalculator.com/images/bike/adult-bik…

          • @park: Thanks for that info! But wouldn't a seat height adjustment compensate for any difference of that dimension basically allowing all sizes to be made the same height?

            • @sub102: The seat height can't go lower than the frame, thorough! And there's a limit to how high the seat pole can hang out above the frame.

Also a larger frame isn't only larger on that one tube length that's being quoted as the frame size, it also has a longer "top tube" which essentially determines the distance from the seat to the handlebar, creating a comfortable posture for someone of the intended height.

  • +5

This is not a bargain. It's a hunk of junk cheap crappy bike. I'm sure you could find something better on facebook marketplace. Heavy frame, outdated components. It's not something that will last you and the first time you service it will cost more then the bike itself.

found a voucher online and it worked for me WELCOME10 and got an extra 10% off came to $89 for me

    • Its not 10% it is $10 off $49.99 as posted on previous deals but didn't apply for me on this bike
