Van Rental | 1 Night Only over Weekend

Good afternoon!

I have to move some stuff with a friend on either Friday night, or Saturday morning, and I thought the easiest way to do so would be with a rented van.
I had a look online, and wicked campers presented decent enough value for about $95.00 for Friday daytime pick up and Saturday morning drop off.

Has anybody got any suggestions? I'm looking for a cheap alternative to van rental. No mates own large enough cars. I'm 21 years old, so I'll surely be subjected to a rental tariff for drivers under 25.

Cheers!

beware that wicked campers will have 50% of internal space already comsumed with camping bits and pieces.
perhaps a cheap ute from your local servo ?

    • I'll give the servo a go! :)

Need more info: How much stuff? Can it fit in one van load? Pickup and drop off suburb?

Here's your options and what I use:

    1. Depending on your answers to the above, I would say check out cheap removalists on Gumtree. They do cash jobs for around $30/hour with minimum 2 hour callout. So if you organise all the stuff that you want to move and have it ready before the guy arrives, then you have 2 hours from that point to load the van and unload it at your destination. If you keep your mates handy then you can probably let the removalist go earlier while you guys move the stuff physically inside the new place. There are 100s of moonlighting and fulltime removalists so you can negotiate and take your pick with whoever offers the cheapest. I have done the ring around to heaps and personally found this guy to be the cheapest: Tak 0423 775 574. He has a large Hiace van and has been reliable the last few times we used him.

    2. If you still want to go down the rental path, depending on where you are located you may find Balmain Rentals to be useful, google their site for rates, under 25 charge etc. But you usually have to get in quick with these guys as the cheap rentals (usually older vans) tend to book out early for the weekends.

Good luck. Any more questions, ask away!

  • I hired a van from this place in Blacktown.
    http://www.saverentacar.com.au/Commercial-Fleet-Rentals/Van-…

$80 for the day with 250kms included. It wasn't the latest and greatest van but it did the job.

Can also suggest something like http://www.moveyourself.com.au/ where you can get prices for trailers or utes etc from local servos who are part of the scheme. We've hired a furniture trailer this way but it was a long time ago.

    Good luck.

  • I know its too late but Budget.com.au are actually pretty decent. For a driver aged 21 - 24 the cost for an auto van for overnight 24 hour hire (fri-sat)is about $116 including taxes etc and you only need a gen car license.
I have used Budget heaps of times, people are usually surprised at how cheap they turn out to be.
