Help Me Build My New Gaming PC 4070 Ti Budget $3k+

Sorry guys another one of these posts.

But I done my homework and have what i think a rough idea on what I want. Let me start with what I picked so far.

I have a WQHD monitor (2560x1440) but I hope to be gaming at 4k by the end of the year.

I have my heart set on a 4070TI graphics
Anything else I am open for options

Thinking of getting a 13600K or KF CPU
Mobo with lots of USB’s (Min 5 USB 3’s can very types/gens) + 4 USB 2 perhaps Gigabyte Z790M Aorus Eilte (though I do not need or really want wireless)
I want a white setup case with pretty RGB fans
32GB Ram (white RGB)
Liquid cooler (white RGB)
2x 2TB NVME SSD - Don’t mind a slightly faster one for OS and favourite games and a cheaper one for storage
Power supply not fussed if you don’t see it in the case. Otherwise a white RGB one. Probably want a 850W gold or platinum spec

Budget around 3K. Pretty sure it will be a few hundred extra which should be ok

Not looking at overclocking but I am interested in undervolting to CPU which I read works best on 690 and 790 motherboards

I picked out these parts from MSY

Intel Core i5 13600KF 14 Core LGA 1700 CPU Processor$454.00-

Corsair 32GB (2x16GB) CMH32GX5M2B6000C40W Vengeance RGB C40 6000MHz DDR5 DRAM - White$239.00-

Cooler Master ML240L ARGB V2 White Edition CPU Cooler$116.00-

Crucial P3 Plus 2TB M.2 PCIe SSD$179.00-

Kingston 2TB NV2 M.2 NVMe SSD$149.00-

Customise your PC & have MSY build it! - $198.50 - TOTAL COST $3208

I have contacted both MSY and PLE for recommendations but the responses have been lacking or non existent.

2 Questions I still haven't worked out.

1.I think I want 2 x 2TB NVME PCIe 4.0 .Now that’s where my first dilemma comes in. Obviously the OS will be run on the CPU M2. But if I use the chipset M2 for the other drive will that effect the GPU.
2. Is getting an 850W powersupply overkill and cost me more to run where a 750W would be plenty? Is the power bills between a gold and platinum really worth bothering about? I tend to leave my PC on over weekends and sleep mode weednights (sorry that was a typo which I left in) I mean weeknights.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you can make.

  • Seems to be quite dialled Im, I'm building a similar system, the one recommendation I would make is if you are going with ddr5 maybe try and find one with lower latency like cl36 you can easily find some in the price you mentioned for the ram.

  • It's good to see you already have a solid build, it will work really well.
I like the build of my z490 aorus elite but for me it's missing temperature probe headers, it doesn't make a difference for your build. I don't like my gigabyte rgb software but haven't experienced other brands, maybe look for one that is compatible with openrgb.
I would personally go a Corsair rm850x but haven't had experience with the PSU you chose.
I think both your SSDs might be qlc dramless which will work fine, but I'd swap out the OS one for something a little beefier. I looked for toms hardware reviews showing sustained write performance after SLC cache was exhausted but this is less of an issue with 2TB until you fill it.
It looks like your case is a decent size with a mesh front so it should have good airflow. GPU support was listed as 300mm with radiator and 330mm without, so your GPU choice might be a bit too long. If you are getting it built they should advise if there are compatibility issues.

    • Thanks Scotty, yer I think I will swap the PSU to another brand and look for a bigger case

  • Can you wait 3 weeks? Nvidia and AMD are both releasing new mid range cards at the end of this month.
We are already seeing several bargains of current gen cards coming onto this site which hasn't happended much in the last 3 years.
We could see some serious GPU bargains very soon.

    • Yes, I can wait. Thanks for this tip :)

  • Avoid Gigabyte power supplies like the plague. Just Google Gamers Nexus Gigabyte power supplies for why not to use them.

As for "1.I think I want 2 x 2TB NVME PCIe 4.0 .Now that’s where my first dilemma comes in. Obviously the OS will be run on the CPU M2. But if I use the chipset M2 for the other drive will that effect the GPU." where did you get this information?

There's nothing I can find online that supports this.

There's one PCIE5 slot that would be used for the GPU, and the M.2 ports use PCIE4. From what I could find, 1 of the M.2 ports replaces 2 SATA ports, but that's it.

Using multiple M.2 ports doesn't automatically slow the main PCIE slot down, it's all motherboard dependent.

    • The exploding Gigabyte PSU fiasco is well and truly over.

      • Well to be honest, I'd never buy a Gigabyte power supply, ever, anyways, nor would I buy a Thermaltake one, and I've been building PCs for over 20 years.

There are just some brands you avoid for power supplies.

    • Thanks. Yer I read somewhere that using NVME uses PCIE lanes and will take up some of the PCIE lanes. I am not very well versed around this. I do not intend to ever use the old fashioned SATA ports.
I think I will swap the PSU though. 2nd person who said to avoid them, even if the exploding fiasco is over..

  • Pc stores do not give recommendations anymore, havent for quite a while, they usually just refer you to their prebuilt systems.

Everything looks good except your attitude to power supplies, a bad power supply can die and take out your whole system, think of it as insurance for your $3k, so get one that has a good rating.

  • Is getting an 850W powersupply overkill and cost me more to run where a 750W would be plenty? Is the power bills between a gold and platinum really worth bothering about?

The PSU will draw what it needs up to its capacity, get the best power supply you can afford IMO

NB I did have a laugh you getting a 4070 Ti and worried about power bills.
