Suggestions for a New PC - Budget ?

Hi OzBargain, I am currently in the market for a desktop PC suiting a high schooler who is interested in the following set of software:

adobe illustrator
adobe photoshop
adobe after effects
adobe photoshop
adobe indesign
unity
blendr

Please recommend a good desktop PC, with ample graphical processing power and sufficient RAM to run all this software. I would like to buy something that will sail for a few extra years in terms of handling updates and increasing demand on processors etc.

Kind Regards

Pro tip, when requesting information, it's generally a good idea to participate in the discussion, thank the people for their suggestions, answer follow-up questions etc

    Not just post then run

Afraid it is getting to be more common on OZB - all take and no give

Safe to say they posted and ran.

Budget? Does it need to be a desktop?

  • Blendr used to be a dating app, Unity is free for students and Creative Cloud is $22 per month. Assume you've factored this in to your spend, which you haven't disclosed?

Not sure you can get a computer for that budget.

When you say "interested in the following set of software", has the high schooler used any of this software before? All of the software on your list is stuff you can get started on and try out simple projects with on virtually any half-decent desktop with a discrete GPU from the last 7 years or so. If the high schooler is just wanting to try this stuff out, why not just get a cheap machine for now and see how the interest develops? These "creator" PC builds can get into the tens of thousands of dollars and you haven't really specified a budget or specific performance requirements. The analogy I would use is that you wouldn't buy a Stradivarius for someone who's just developed an interest in violin.

Could probably get some mileage out of this https://mikepc.com.au/collections/high-end-gaming-profession…

Based on those requirements, I'd suggest a PC.

Not sure Adobe suite will run on a microwave or fridge.

  • I would suggest you have a look at this because after you pay for license costs it's probably all you can afford as a school leaver:

  • OP you coming back? We know you're alive…
