Casio G-Shock G-Steel GSTB400D-1A w/ Tough Solar & Bluetooth $449 Delivered @ Starbuy

210

I'm not a G-Shock expert but this seems a pretty good price on a steel version with both solar and Bluetooth (although, TBH, what you can do with the wireless option seems a bit pointless - I'm happy to be corrected, though).

A quick web search suggests street price at retailers is hovering around $600-$650.

  • What is the bluetooth for?

      1) Setting up the watch instead of pressing the buttons - makes it easier. 2)Syncing the time automatically. Even the best of the watches our there lose or gain a few seconds to minutes every month - the Bluetooth allows your watch to be accurate down to the second.

Seems like its a costly feature which I have zero need for. At least you can still do it manually do the watch is still a watch when the app is no longer supported.

        • Yeah it's a gimmick.

I've got a few G-Shocks with the "Smartphone Link" feature and I've never used it.

These things generally keep time pretty well, in my experience the typical Casio quartz module deviates maybe 30 seconds every 2 months or so. Some of my more precise Casios are accurate to within +/- 30 seconds every 4 months or more. They really don't need daily time-keeping updates.

The reviews for Casio's mobile apps are pretty terrible too with plenty of users stating that the app doesn't reliably sync time to their watch.

It's actually pretty useful. It's much easier to just be able to press a button and resych the time, and using a phone to set watch functions is much more convenient.

At anyrate, i have the gst b 200. It's an excellent watch. It's a shame they dropped the second hand from the later models.

For that price its a steel!

    • Pretty stellar pricing there ;)

    • Tough crowd

  • I have the black solar one, no bluetooth, and no bracelet. It's pretty cool but I only paid about $100. Price seems okay for this one, I recently paid $100 more for a Tom's x Edifice with similar specs.

  • Woulda thought 'Tough Solar' requires more than Mineral Glass

    • +2

"Tough Solar" is just Casio's proprietary solar charging system. The "Tough" adjective is more a reference to the internals, specifically the shock absorbing structure composed of the urethane foam/rubber.

There are quite a few G-Shocks with Sapphire glass these days but those are normally priced around the $500-600 dollar mark and higher.

    • Exactly
Mineral glass at this price point on a "Tough" watch? RRP is $899

Mineral glass is more impact-resistant than sapphire glass though.
Sapphire glass just resists scratches better.
