  • Can you buy with coles mastercard or that disallowed?

    • Why would you think it wouldn't be allowed? It's a mastercard. Of course it can be used.

      • Coles products generally can't be exchange for one other.

      • Just tried to use a Coles Prepaid Mastercard for a Catch Connect Plan but got a 'international card cannot be used' error.

        • Hmm interesting.

        • They cant use a prepaid card for ID purposes. It's also possible that they can not trust the KYC processes for (some) international cards, perhaps.

          • @Ryk: I annoyingly had a similar issue with Myki (Victoria's public transport system card). Used the Coles Prepaid Mastercard to deposit $250 on to the Myki card, was 'pending' on Myki, then got refused. Now the Coles mastercard is showing $0 however hoping that the $250 will be refunded back onto the card.

  • Does this come with 5G?

    • +6

I'd say in description. Don't clog the title.
It's there in black & white.

  • Good value really.

  • Wonder if you can get staff discount on this?

    • +1

If you mean the 5% off then yes in-store, don't know about online.

    • +1

Coles staff discount card can get this for $99 plus 5% off on top of that.

      • $99 how??

        • Staff only deal.

        • If you're a Coles employee, go to your mycoles account.

          • @beyond2k: Can we do in store??

            • @R n b: Are you a Coles employee / have a staff card? Then yes.

              • @wavesgreen: Not me, but i have family members and i use his physical staff card …

                • @R n b: Yep if you have the staff card just scan it as normal and the $99 plus 5% off will be applied.

                • @R n b: You can try today to see if it still works :)

      • no longer works. Staff discount only 5% on top of $119

        Just tried today in Coles

        • Same

        • Is the offer still in mycoles?

        • +2

Just bought and it worked, $99 minus 5% staff discount, and 2500 fb points as this week is last week for 10000 points minimum spend spend $50. System asked me 2000 fb points ti redeem although I didn’t have enough points, paid by gift cards…..happy…happy…unfortunately it voided my $15 store discount which i got in my email few days ago….so basically i paid $67.55 ($119-my Coles offer $20-staff discount $4.95- redeemed 2000 points $10-will get 2500 points $12.50)

          • @R n b: interesting. yesterday it was not working. Did you go through self checkout or man checkout ? Not sure if it matters…

            • +1

              @ggfatty: Self..

              • @R n b: just tried, not working.

                $119 plus 5% disccount.

The deal killer is, activate in 30 days.

                • @sunaus: same. I dont understand why it works for some ppl not others. Also coles staff is unable to manually override the price to be $99

                • +2

@sunaus: I again bought for my partner today, it worked in churchil coles SA, i even used $15 automated store voucher minimum spend $100 which was sent in an email few days ago. So bought a sim $150 for $99 and $7 other items to make sure $100 minimum spend, then $15 discount auto applied And will get 1200 fb points as well tomorrow for $30 spend.

    • I did the same. Bought 2 sims on 9 May, for a total of $188.1.
Employee discount ($9.9 off) + mycoles offer ($40 off)

  • Are they anything like their credit card department?
    Completely crap systems and service…

    • The phone service is excellent.

  • What's the cheap way to recharge nowadays?

    • -1

recharge or get a new starter?

    • +4

Turn off auto-recharge and turn on marketing notifications, they usually offer 20% off renewal within a week of renew.

      • Thanks. I'll give that a go

    • Or port out then back in

  • +11

current coles mobile user, can confirm signal is rubbish once you leave urban area.
and the International roaming is… last trip i basically paid $25 to receive 2 sms message.

    • +1

And also every time you call overseas numbers they will see new number every time , I shouldn’t have ported in

      • Username checks out lol

      • Lmfao really? Nah Boost can keep ahold of my balls all they want, good deal with them.

    • Wouldn’t the signal be more of an Optus issue?

      • -1

I reckon it depend on how many towers you can access within Optus's network, they won't give you full access.

        • +1

          Ok thanks.

If this is the case, do you know if Catch Connect would have fewer towers than Coles, since Catch is slightly cheaper? I am weighing between getting the two.

    • +1

+1 for bad mobile network coverage experience. Also, people complain all they time that they don't even hear it ring when they try calling me.

    • Works fine for me in regional Vic ~200 odd clicks from the CBD.

    • Not in my case. It's the Optus network, works fine nearly everywhere.

    • Receiving SMS while roaming internationally is free. I'm using it currently.

      Agree with the network quality

    • Rubbish.

  • Does Coles offer any type of shopping related discount similar to Woolies 10%/month?

    • +1

Not on the yearly plans but they do on the month-to-month ones, in the form of a Coles eGiftcard to the value of 10% of your largest single shop.

  • What’s the coverage like vs regular Optus prepaid?

    • Exactly the same.

      • Thanks!

  • horrible connection in West Sydney

  • Can pay with coles gift cards?

    • Yes. Done it in the past and stacked with flybuys offers

      • So this would count in my “spend $200” requirement for FlyBuys?

        • +1

          Yes

        • +1

nope, just last week, i try purchase sim card prepaid, the store manager told me that prepaid count as gift card. i do try paying mix between flybuy $ and gift card. no wonder my last promotion for weekly $50, after i purchase sim card, then i loss notification that i have completed my weekly spending.

          • @joannatan: If so must be a recent change, my last purchase counted towards the spend

    • Self checkout doesn’t like it if gift card (digital gift card) doesn’t cover full amount (i.e. can’t split payment involving digital gift card). Not sure if physical gift cards are any different. Can probably go through assisted checkout.

Switched some family members from Boost to Coles, coverage is significantly worse outside of metro areas.

  • +3

Good deal since Boost price goes up too much.

  • +1

Can confirm signal is awful. Cuts out in inner Melb and definitely outside cities. Handy for second phone in house but as a main u will need something more reliable.
    Cheap and nasty.

    • +3

My Boost (telstra) is pretty $hit too. No usable data in Emporium in the CBD. Highpoint is horrible too, can ise the internet or receive calls.

Optis was great for me in melb.

      • +1

switched to boost recently. had no signal in parts of cbd and very slow browsing in highpoint.

i'll probably port out to something else after the 28 days are over.

        • +1

Oh good to hear. I was thinking its just me..

Boost sucks for me in Melb.

    • -1

      Sounds like a dodgy phone.

      • Well, apparantly not. Im on a samsung galaxy. Wife is on an iphone and its the same for both.

  • Is this the cheapest 12 months plan?

  • Esim plz

  • Anyone tried using wifi-calling from overseas?

    • +2

Yes, it doesn't work but my other phone on Woolworths works with WiFi calling no issue

      • Thanks for replying 😊

  • -1

What is the value in these 12 month SIMs? Serious question

    • -1

Convenience. Having said that, a Woolies Mobile yearly sim essentially pays for itself if you do a decent shop there each month and get the 10% off.

    • I don't know of a better way to pay under $10 per month.

      • Works out to be only 10gb a month tho which is not a lot. I guess it must be enough for some people

        • I used about 35 GB over the last twelve months. I just renewed the 60 GB Coles plan.

          • @JerryB: Same with me. Used less than 40Gb for last 11 months on a 150GB/year plan. It was wfh for half the time.

I'll probably switch to a lower plan like this when my current plan expired.

  • -1

Isn't this the normal price? I would advise waiting until it goes for under $100, as it often does. Failing that, check out Boost which I believe has a superior offer.
Having said all that, I've Coles mobile and it has been a good service.

    • +3

Normal price is $150, now on sale for $119, but it has been on sale on and off quite regularly since Feb.

$99 is the 60GB plan when on sale from $120. The 120GB plan has never gone under $100.

  • +2

Four of my family members have switched from Boost over to Coles. Coverage wise that's both data and voice absolutely fine in Melbourne metro and much better in some areas including indoor. Call waiting, conference call, VoLTE and VoWiFi are all perfectly fine.

  • I wonder if this would be eligible for cashback from CBA? $10 cashback when spend $100 or more.

  • My boost prepaid sim I got last year is about to expire, anyone got any cheap but decent recommendations? I was gonna go for this or amaysim but I'm kinda salty because I just quit coles for woolies so won't get the bigger discount.

  • +1

Is this the cheapest 12 months plan, if i need international calling to India?

  • I wonder if anyone tried refunding an unused sim purchase from Coles? I had bought this and just saw the cracking Amaysim deal. Thought of hearing any positive experiences from any others. Thanks!

    • +1

Sims basically cannot be refunded because they are activated* on purchase. In the event of a faulty sim (ie fails to activate) I think you have to go through the provider first and they either provision you with a new sim or a refund. I think. It's been a while since I've had to do that.

*Activated from a POS point of view
