          60Hz for MS Word?
          Straight to jail

          • +6

@noicegarry: So me gaming at 60Hz? (profanity) me maybe I'm old, but I remember when hitting 30Hz was 'cutting edge'.

          • @noicegarry: Maybe he can type more than 60 characters in a second? XD

        • +4

          Only gamers need monitors.

        • I mean, valid. Fortunately a lot of 60hz displays can be overclocked. I find anything around 70-75 is where I stop caring about refresh rate, and good quality panels should get there.

        • +5

I have a 144Hz and if I change to 60Hz I literally can't tell the difference, maybe I'm just old.

          • +1

@bleeder: Your eyes can't see more than 30 fps anyway

Here's some detailed analysis from a basement dweller

            https://www.neogaf.com/threads/the-human-eye-cant-see-more-t…

            • @greatlamp: Interesting stuff, I've heard it before but didn't quite understand. To be honest I didn't understand that 100% either haha

              • +1

@bleeder: (Read the thread, it's not true)

                • @greatlamp: Oh I just straight up believed it, I thought the commentators were trolls hahaha

            • -1

@greatlamp: This is absolute nonsense and pure bs. If you seriously cannot tell the difference between 30hz and 60hz or 60hz and 120hz you genuinely need to get your eyes checked.

              • @Phesto: I've played games on 30Hz and they give me headaches, where as 60Hz is fine. I currently use a 144Hz monitor, if I change my setting to 60Hz I can't see any difference.

Edit. case in point, just went to manually change to 60 to test it out, and I was already on 60 without knowing! lol. Hmm can see a slight difference when moving windows around fast with my mouse actually.

        • I own this monitor for several years now. It's good. The refreshrate is a non issue. The reality is most movies are 24 or 25hz, and it doesn't both you. 60hz looks very crisp. We play RTS on this a lot and it's never been a factor. FPS wouldn't be a big issue either.

    • Only 60Hz?! Its almost like computers have other uses besides gaming!!

      • What? Computers has other uses other than gaming? Noooo… impossibru!!!!

every gamer on these posts be like "I play minesweeper, i need 144hz monitors!!!!"

      Solitaire FTW!

      • +1

It needs the 144Hz refresh rate for when the deck of cards bounce around the screen.

      • Go back to bed old man. Spider solitaire is the future

  • Only if my 13 inch MBP M1 chip can support 2 external monitors …

    • Get a USB to HDMI adapter, one with a display chip in it.

      • +2

These daisy chain via DP cable… USB-c to laptop, then monitor 1 <> monitor 2 via DP !! Dell 25 inch QHD ftw.. I have 2 ThinkVision 24 in monitors that are 2 years old… time to replace? :D

        • @Runchbox - that's exactly right!!

@zn7726 - see the diagram of what Runchbox was explaining here on this page:

          https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/ultrasharp-25-usb-c-monitor-…

Surely a M1 MBP could support this - with one USB-C cable, and the monitors connected via DisplayPort.

          • @enthusiast: Either you or the article linked below is wrong : )
I remembered seeing different sources claiming daisy chain is not a solution 1-2 years ago when I was given this M1 MBP13.

            https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/406864/does-the-20…

          • @enthusiast: Macs don't support DisplayPort MST (multi stream transport) unless something has changed recently I am not aware of.
So nope, no daisy chain for Macs.

            • @3v3rqu357: Sorry about that! And thanks so much @zn7726 + @3v3rqu357 for clarifying.

I had just assumed that a late model Mac could support that simple monitor setup. Looking closer at the image on the Dell website, the laptop does look like a Dell - surprise surprise. (more ports on the side than an Apple!) :-)

              • @enthusiast: Yeah, it's very disgusting that Apple set this limitation on the base M1 chip to force ppl to buy the bigger/more expensive MBP simply for the dual external monitor setup.

                However, I prefer a single monitor with a higher resolution setup than a dual monitor setup now. A 5K by 2K 40inch would be more productive than a 4k 32 inch + a 2K 25inch monitor.

                • @zn7726: So can you daisy chain 2 of these monitors via USB-C with the 14in/16in M1 Pro MacBooks? Or does the limitation still exist with the “Pro” chip? Really confusing

                  • +1

@evol: At least for 14 inch MBP, the spec does say supports 2 external monitors. I assume it means you can achieve it by running 2 TB cables to each of the external monitors, or via a normal dock. I am not too sure about the daisy chain though.

                    • -1

@zn7726: You can run 2 monitors no problems through 2 different ports - that was never an issue with any MacBook produced. Every macbook supports dual monitor setup.

The problem is with DisplayLink daisy-chaining support on Macs - which Apple deliberately has decided to not support.

                      • +1

@samuria: It's definitely an issue with the M1 and M2 Airs and non-pro MacBook Pros - they only support one display through the USB-C port.

DisplayLink will give you multiple displays through a dual display adaptor, because that was the solution I had to employ.

The Pro MacBook pros - the 14 and 16 inch display ones - have HDMI out and support more than one display out of the box

        • +1

I have always suspected in order to promote thunderbolt, Apple only allows daisy chains through thunderbolt, which would require thunderbolt displays.
It does not support Multi-Stream Transport (MST) over DisplayPort. I wish it would.

So for two external displays an MBP needs two cables, or via a dock which of course would allow even more displays if the dock supports.

    • +4

It can, but with a bit of extra cash.

I bought a USB -> HDMI adaptor that has "DisplayLink" (requires software) and it'll run an extra monitor, using your RAM (that's why you want to get more tahn 8GB, always… but 8GB will work).

It's flawless, cost me about $60-$70. I got it from Amazon, link is here https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B013G4CJM8/ref=ppx_yo_d…

I also got another DisplayLink one purchased through work, that supports TWO monitors, both HDMI and also Display Port on both ports, 4k support, all the jazz. Does cost more, but you get more options with it - https://www.amazon.com.au/Plugable-DisplayPort-Monitor-Adapt…

So, your options with the M1 are 1 built in external, PLUS one or more DisplayLink externals. For instance, I can run 3 monitors and my regular laptop screen too.

If you need that kind of more-than-one-extra-monitor solution, I highly recommend it!

      • Thanks for the info and the links. I do remember some online sources said a device with DisplayLink is the way to go.

  • Is the height adjustable?

    • +1

Yes - great stands on these.

      • +1

Does look really nice. Good to have a 2nd monitor in portrait mode. Have a decent one already though.

    • I’d say Dell have the most versatile and steady stands, besides aftermarket stands/arms.

  • What's a good secondary monitor to match with this (in terms of profile, looks and scaling) - not planning to use daisy chain but will make use of the power delivery and plug the second monitor in via hdmi or dp

    • +3

Another one of these! :P. Especially at this price.

Most monitors don't come in 25" form, 24 and 27 are more common.

Think Umart bought MSY a while back.

      • Looking at MSY's website, it's 100% umart's website with a different name.

        • -1

Yes, Umart and MSY in Clayton are even in the same building, right next to each other that's the state of consumer "choice" for you these days

          • -1

@Anthropomorphised: You can always go to Scorptec, PCCG, PLE, CentreCom, etc. It's not like the Umart-MSY merger has eliminated competition.

            • -1

              @barcer: I’m very much aware, you’re misinterpreting.
It’s a comment on consumer choice broadly (i.e. JB owning TGG, most consumer consumable goods being owned by just a few companies etc.

great for use in portrait mode along the U4323QE - they line up perfectly

Just picked one up. The guy looked it up and said they had about 250 left in the warehouse.

  • Good for tax time

  • Any comments on matching two of these in portrait with an LG C2/3 42" as the main monitor? Planning out an upgrade of my home office and wanting to go OLED in the middle and a screen on either side, had been close to settling on the U2421E but two of these @ $299 is far more appealing. Worried about the differential between OLED black levels and IPS panels.

Size seems like an ok fit though 24" would probably be closer, hoping others here are interested in tri monitor setups like this.

Have one of these, amazing picture quality for a MBA M1

  • $319 at mwave. But mwave seems to accept the back to school vouchers and also close to my home.

Do you know if mwave can match umart’s price?

Any recommendations for a good display for Mac Studio used primarily for photo/video editing? The LG 5K and Apple Studio Display are too expensive

      • +1

I don’t think a QHD display is at all comparable to the Apple Studio or LG5K. That would be a seriously lower spec. This UltraSharp is a great display, but probably not the right display for someone comparing with 5K monitors.

Dell is apparently coming out with a 6K monitor soon, as is Samsung 5K both featured at this year’s CES. They might be lower priced than the Apple and LG options, we will have to see.

If urgent, look at the 4K Dell U2723QE (and it’s 32 inch sibling the U3223QE). I have both it and this post’s QHD display. Both are great monitors, work well with macs, have an expansive dock and do any post production photo or video work well. The 4K obviously the main one I use for that. They just aren’t going to be as good as a 5K monitor, both generally and especially for the way scaling works in macs.

  • Purchase one as a second vertical monitor

  • Anyone have feedback on the glare/reflections on these monitors as it is mentioned as a negative on rtings? I sit next to a window and currently have glare issues on my glossy hp 25vx but not my matt samsung lc24f390fhexxy (yes i know i have shit monitors and in need of an upgrade but i use for work only).

Other than that, this seems to have everything i want with adjustable stand and usb-c charging. Thanks in advance!

    • I have mine at right angles to a southward facing window. I must say it isn’t something worrisome, and it might be different if the sun came in directly.

      • I have my monitors at right angles to a north facing window to my left with the monitors in a v formation. I put the monitor with glare issues facing away from window but still have glare issues so have to close my vertical blinds halfway

  • Oooo should I change…https://www.displaydb.com/compare/dell-ultrasharp-u2515h/dell-u2520d

this is 100 dollars cheaper than the price I paid for my old one.

  • Got two for home office and they are pretty decent.

One thing I noticed is that all USB ports are disabled on the daisy changed monitor. Wondering if that is a usual limitation or actually an issue with the monitor itself… Any idea?

    • Did you have to do anything special to daisy chain them?

I tried a few things but ended up getting it working with both monitors plugged into the laptop.

      • +1

Should work out of the box.

Just connect the laptop to monitor 1 via USBC, then connect monitor 1 (DP out) to monitor 2 (DP in). Make sure to use the supplied cables.

    • +1

i also bought two for office use. i have daisy changed them and my USB ports are working on the daisy changed monitor. Have you checked the usb settings are turned on the monitor?

      • Triple checked all the settings on the daisy changed monitor before dismantling and driving this thing back to Umart.

Interestingly, as soon as I disconnect the DP /daisy chain from monitor 2, all USB ports are working well again.

Brought the monitor back to Umart and now starting to get the run around from them.

They can't (or rather don't want to) replicate the issue without daisy chaining that monitor to another one. That now appears to be reason enough for them to dismiss any fault. Ultimately they told me that there might be a 'bandwidth' issue with the monitor itself, which in return disables all USB ports when daisy changed. This would fundamentally not provide for a fault or warranty claim.

Not happy at all with their approach here as even if a bandwidth issue, this monitor is then simply not fit for purpose.

Let's see what's next but very good to know that others don't have any issues.

        • shouldnt be a bandwidth issue.. i have a dell dock d6000s plugged into the first monitor and from the dock its powering another 2k monitor and 3 peripherals so there is 3 2k monitors + laptop all being connected from the first dell monitor and all running at 60hz x 2 and 100hz for the other monitor plus using the daisly chained monitor to charge my iphone and headphones

          • +2

@Piecemealset31: Had 4 different unpleasant discussions with Umart - useless bunch really!

They insisted that I wait 4 weeks for a result of a warranty claim. If faulty, then I get a refurbished replacement… If not faulty then I need to pay for shipment and other cost of that warranty claim. What a joke!

Chatted with Dell and they immediately confirmed that all ports have to work regardless of daisy changed or not.

Based on that Umart now graciously agreed to refund my money for a faulty monitor.

Will never buy anything from Umart again but directly from Dell directly…

            • @Ozmrtw: Good outcome

            • @Ozmrtw: Yes best to buy directly from Dell. They are pretty decent with their warranty issues.

              • +1

@Naigrabzo: Great warranty but they aren't price matching really.

Was on chat with Dell for a price match with Umart (which is a 'qualified' vendor for price matching) and after waiting 2 days for the Dell price match conclusion, they determined that they won't honor the Umart pricing since 'too low'. Getting a lower price matched is the quintessence of price matching in the first place - so that is that.

                • +1

@Ozmrtw: Yeah those price match policies are mostly a farce I reckon. Just a marketing gimmick. Only OZB premium members would even try them out.
