AMD Ryzen 9 7900 12 Core 3.7GHz AM5 CPU $629 Delivered @ Computer Alliance eBay

HGMAY

** Sorry, stock has run out. In future I'll keep mind of stock levels before posting a deal.**

Was shopping for my first PC build after my laptop stopped charging. Nowhere as well informed as a lot of people on Ozbargain as I don't game but wanted something for video editing and 3d rendering.

Computer Alliance quoted me $659 and wouldn't budge on price. I remember they usually have ebay deals happening and wouldn't you know it, ebay has the HGMAY voucher happening that makes it $30 cheaper.

    Cracker of a price!
My 5900X is still going strong after 2.5 years, they’re a great processor and this will be even better.
With a decent graphics card it handles capture one like a boss

Do you use adobe premiere for video editing?
I’ve typically just used iMovie on Mac for editing, but with the price of high spec macs these days I do all my photo and video editing in my gaming PC, since it’s around anyway

Love the username, although I was an Amstrad user. I've been doing a post production course at TAFE and using Adobe Premiere. My Lenovo E14 was handling it ok but packed it in after rendering in 3ds max.

I'm too ashamed to reveal the graphics card I'm getting for this. I'm sure I'll upgrade at some point in time but for now this will get me out of a bind until I get more familiar with PCs. Even if computing were a hobby to me, it's an expensive one.

      • Nice one.
If you’re on a budget a second hand RTX 3060 with 12gb can be had for around $350 for the patient eBay or Facebook marketplace user.
The extra memory helps for CUDA tasks,
You don’t need a powerhouse since they’re already very fast.

If you're rocking 1080p screen, the GTX1080 is down to $200 second hand. It's a killer of a deal, regardless of age.

  • Been staring at this deal for a week (old coupon worked too) the only reason I didnt post it, is because A. Not enough stock to meet deal.
And B. Despite the "issues" being fixable, I feel like AMD will have a price drop sometime soon to boost sales and help restore confidence in the brand.

    • True. I didn't even think about stock levels. Only posted because I needed this pronto. The AMD 7 I would have gone for was unavailable in Brisbane. I have no doubt AMD will drop the price on this after I purchased it. It's Murphy's law.

    • Agreed. I think amd will do a price drop.

  • Settled with a 13600k. Cheaper mobo and can use saving on DDR5 ram and storage.

Unfortunately Intel will only support the 13th gen platform this year. Next generation Intel is on a new platform. AM5 has an upgrade path to Zen 5 and beyond.

      • The my reason for sticking with AMD too. AM4 was awesome, went from the 2700X to the 5900X over 5 years without having to change mobo.

      • Yeah but they're gonna value add on the future amd boards too.
Like how early AM4 missed out on pcie 4.0.
If i were to guess id say the issue going forward will turn out to be memory speeds. Though im not sure if its the CPU or the board thats making AM5 max out at 6000Mhz right now
I got b350 and ended up having to dump my mobo, but then b350 was particularly sketchy.

        • CPU; memory controller has been on-chip for a long time now :)

          • @MasterScythe: Yes I am aware but motherboards can limit memory overclocking too.
Next gen DDR5 is supposedly going to go above 10,000MT/s though i'd wager the affordability sweetspot would come in lower.
I'm just salty because I got burned on the upgrade path meme before and it triggers me when people recommend it despite variables being significantly different.
I'll begrudgingly admit it's probably fine this time. but I still wont buy into it.

            • @Lief: They can; but thats a firmware choice by the manufacturer (within reason). There will be some limits; but they're broad.

Look at B350 boards that topped out at 2666mhz, latest AGESA now has them at 3600mhz.

  • How would this perform with a 3070 for video editing tasks etc?

Just had a look on ebay at other items, but their pricing is obviously silly. $585 for a Ryzen 7700 from Wireless1, while they sell it direct for $499. Ebay goes "take $58 off using this code" and so that's down to ~$530. I guess there's a factor of $30 in there for shipping + ebay tax.
