Had all the major brands; sony, kindle, kobo and generic eink wannabe's.

I'll take the Kobo any day.

    Software is snappier.
    
    And not being tied down to DRM makes it just behave a LOT better with alternate files, like trying to read HTML pages or PDF's.
    
    Just generally all'round a better experience.

  Kobo book I need for work is $50 Amazon is $35 adds up quick espically if your buying a lot of uni books etc

These are good prices, but my original Paperwhite (kindle 5th gen, 2013) is still going strong. It’s got a functioning backlight, the battery still works fine, I have no reason to “upgrade.” Amazon need to try some of that planned obsolescence ;)

  I have heard they lose money everytime someone buys a kindle. So may be not
