From their website:

The Raspberry Pi 4 is a huge leap forward for single-board computing. This newfound performance is powered by a significant increase in processing power, dedicated multimedia hardware, and I/O technology.

We have a wide range of guides available for Raspberry Pi along with a step-by-step workshop. These guides are made for makers, by makers, and we're here if you need help along the way.

  • got the 2B Pi, other than the 10/100 ethernet it's pretty solid!

    • 10/100 is fine

  • +2

    Wow that's expensive.

    • +5

      Compared to what?

        A happy meal

      • If you don't mind the power consumption, size and GPIOs, an old SFF is more powerful and sometimes expansible.
And for some use cases, even an ESP32 would do.

    • +1
      • Wow 2nd hand is so expensive. People are really desperate to get one.
I was balking when they were $50-80, still don't have one.
I have the pi-zero no wifi, have not used it for over a year or more. Nice kit for $8.
        I don't need another computer.

Damnit! Chatbot immediately pops up and says

Hi, this product is now out of stock.

While the add to cart button may not work, the product page itself will update in the next 24 hours to reflect this (if it hasn't already)

  • +1

    Thanks op, got one!

  • Would this run Home Assistant?

    • +2

      Even pi3 can.

    • Yes but you might need to upgrade if you have a lot of devices

      • Nah, definitely use a SSD not a SD card or SD will die within a year.

        • +1

Ive been running HA on a Pi 3B for almost two years no issues with a micro SD card. You just gotta make sure to get the "endurance" ones.

          • @SitarBoy: This. I'm running Home Assistant on a Pi 3B+ with a Samsung Endurance PRO card, has been performing flawlessly.

      • I might be better off getting a dell sff then cos I plan to add 40+ devices to it, specially at this price point.

        • Yeah that’s a way better idea

        • +1

I had 40+ devices, pihole, and x2 12TB hd as NAS within the same Pi plus torrents. No performance issue what so ever.

          • @boomramada: Really? My pi4 was working but really struggling and slow with 50 ish entities :/

            • @Leho: First of all, run your Pi from SSD.
Then install a RPi-Monitor or something similar. Check the CPU/IO and temp.

Perhaps check the HA database size, that can caused issues for some users. https://community.home-assistant.io/t/how-to-keep-your-recor…

All my apps in Pi run as docker. Maybe bad installation?

              • @boomramada: I would but i moved my homeassistant over to my server which runs everything in docker. Super smooth now with a ryzen 5 😂

                • +1

@Leho: Docker is way to go, easy to back up/upgrade or restore.

                • +1

@Leho: How do you go with docker? I've recently installed it using synology docker and don't have the home assistant add in store. I'm also having issues with localtuya and have to reset HA every day. I'm contemplating going back to using my pi to run HA.

Or setting it up as a virtual machine instead of docker.

                  • +1

@Name: Never used synology before but hacs install is just the install guide for container here

                    https://hacs.xyz/docs/setup/download/

Remember you cant use containerised services like mosquito and that from homeassistant container, only supervised (only os on the system) if thats what you mean. Tuya devices have always been shit in my experience, moved everything to zigbee with zigbee2mqtt :)

          • @boomramada: I have a Pi Zero W with pihole running and its already running slow - log says 1.1 vs 1 requests.

            • @MKBHD: I run my PiHole on a Pi2b I picked up from MarketPlace for $20. No performance issues whatsoever.

    • I'm running HA on a pi4 with an SSD
Heaps of integrations etc runs perfectly

      • USB SSD?

        • Yeah, I had to buy a particular brand of usb3 to sata adapter for it to work

I had one SSD fail, on to the second one, possibly due to writes, my HA db log file keeps getting huge, not sure how to fix it so I just set it up to purge every few days now, not ideal for record keeping of my power usage which is primarily what I use it for
It's using a hat with CT clamps and lives in my meter box

    • Grab one of these and load Home Assistant OS onto it. Thats what I did.

  • Tks OP,

Been waiting a few months for it to be back in stock. Can't wait to start my music server project

  • Added one to my collection!

Note: The 8GB variant is also in stock, but it requires additional items to be added: https://core-electronics.com.au/raspberry-pi-4-model-b-8gb-k…

Good work on keeping them out of the hands of people who have been waiting months for some supply.

    • Wow mega valid reason to neg. (not really)

Doesn't matter if people have waited months, luck of the draw mate. Thats life.

      • -1

        It's not a bargain though?

        • +1

Nah. As much as I like them and I'll probably get downvoted for this, there are better SB computers for the price.

          • @CarlosSpicywein3r: What's your pick?

I looked into alternatives and haven't been able to find any solid recommendations when comparing price. BananaPi, OrangePi, Tinkerboard etc are all significantly more

        • +3

Feel free to link a better in-stock price.

Yeah thats it, neg me instead.

  • Seems to be back in stock. I just ordered one

      • Weirdly it seems to still be in stock and the add to cart button works.

  • for retropie this is perfect, 8gb model is overkill for sure if your going with a retropie setup.

    • +1

Retropi used to run fine on a 3b (1GB) last I checked. I'm guessing even 4GB is overkill

      • I mean you can do other stuff as well 4gb version is like the happy medium.

  • +1

These have come so far from the cheap single board computers they were meant to be.

They're not remotely cost effective compared to a normal second hand computer that's going to be considerably more usable.

The only real application for these I see is if you have a really low power consumption requirement, like in a caravan, RV etc

    • even then these are not that low .. you need a dedicated USBC power supply. ie I used to have a pi 2 running off any old USB port - like off my TV.

      • 5.1v @ 3amps isn't too bad though lol

    • Mine had to fit in my power meter box, I could have used an older pi, but easier to run everything on the single unit

      • Interesting, what are you using it for in your power meter?

        • To monitor my house power usage on 3 circuits using this

          Running home assistant

          • @jjsnacks: That's neat, I really need to play with home assistant at some stage. I've got 99% of everything in the house automated with Tuya gear that should be compatible.

  • +1

Why is it still having issues with stock and in 2023?

    • +1

The world is not currently as it was pre-covid.

You have covid still, and war, and brink of war.
You have one weak world leader and they are all jostling….
Those cheap things from China don't seem so cheap anymore.
      World is not the same.

    • Apparently, industrial manufacturers have really taken a shine to them and the organisation has lost sight of its original mission. They'd rather sell thousands to someone to install in a fridge than just one to you or me.

  • +1

Just bought the 4B and the PiStation Deluxe case.
I have wanted this set up for so long and now I can finally have it!
You have made my day OP! Thanks a bunch!

  • is it safe and reliable to run a personal blog server on this raspberry pi? Power always be plugged in, would it damage the device?

    • +1

      Would be great.

    • +1

There are plenty of people using these as servers so yeah that'd run fine.

In fairness though, security for websites is a bit of a complicated bitch. I'd be opting to find a cheap / free hosting plan or service and just use that. There'll be something out there that's 0 cost or near enough to anyway and then you don't need to rely on your home internet connection.

  • +1

Just throwing it out there, there are plenty of alternatives to the hard to get Pi boards.

    (I've been using Raxdas)

Also amused by the inevitable "get a usff pc" comments. Of course they're more powerful, it's like saying water is wet.

    • Possibly those comments are triggered by the text in the description "now a true PC replacement for a wide range of uses at home" (which it's not IMO ;)
Which Radxa board(s) are you using?

      • +1

I'm using the RockPi S models with PoE

  • +3

Seems to be back in stock

  • Ordered after this post was marked out of stock and my order was still processed and posted.

    • +1

Same, I did not get the bot popup until after I placed my order. Thinking it might be related to the one per household thing and not the actual stock that they have.
