One Way Car Hire (Cheaper Option) to Bring 5 Loaded Suitcases

Can anyone please suggest a way to bring 5-6 large suitcase from Adelaide to Melbourne?

I was thinking of one way Car hire, which supposed to do a cheap rate if you drop off the car within advertised dates.

Has any one done that if yes, who was the operator.

A friend moved to Melbourne, as now is he is settled, want to bring his belongings from there.

Looking for options

Bit of background: Person moving from Adelaide is with family of 3 kids. I don't have any experience in the interstate move, but as others have suggested, may be I will help him getting a quotes from pack and send, Manfreight or airtasker.

Five suitcases, why not use a courier? The fuel alone for Adelaide to Melbourne would be expensive, plus the time and bother. Car insurance costs. I bet you wouldn't even save much or any money compared to paying a courier. You'd have to enjoy driving long distances to want to do this. It's not a huge distance really, but still enough to not want to do it after having done it a few times.

    Airtasker?

I moved Syd -> Melb with airtasker - didn't have a lot of stuff but plenty of offers for half trucks.

Seems lots of professional moving companies "double up" on loads if they have space in their truck.

    Paid $500.

Edit: 500 for 2 rooms worth of furniture. I imagine 5 bags would be considerably less, you may even find someone doing the trip anyway.

    • its something I can suggest

  • 8-9hr drive & approx 750kms? Yeesh

Imoova has Syd-Ade for $5/day, inc $50 in fuel, and Mel-Syd for same price, same fuel if you're really desperate lol

That doesn't even get you to the next town from Perth 😉

There are services like PackSend that ships luggage. Couriers usually require you to pack your own stuff, in this case on a skid or crate. With a car hire, it'll cost you time, fuel, insurance and food if you need to recharge on the way

  • Reach out to some hard-core AFL supporters; e.g. Port are playing Richmond at the G on 28-May.

Freight. Go depot to depot instead of door to door. So you drop them off to the depot ans collect them. Then you can get a good rate from someone like Mainfreight or another bulk carrier, as rates will be cheaper.

^^^ This. You take it to the local freight depot. He picks it up from their depot in Melbourne.

But may have gone by the time you check it out

  • I think they usually use barrels rather than suitcases in SA?

Train or Bus maybe, not sure what the luggage limits are.

    • Train 70Kgs max depending on class

Look for a camper relocation. Camper is free, one way and quite often fuel paid as well.
