Can anyone recommend a filtered shower head? Had the luxury of washing in clean water in the daintree for a week and not only did my hair not go oily or dandruff-y, but my skin was no longer tight, dry and flaky. I suspect our water here is hard and chemical-laden and causing irritation for me. Any advice would be appreciated, I’m overwhelmed with my internet searches, there are so many options and I don’t entirely trust the reviews, so curious what others are using and having success with. Thank you ☺️💜
Can Anyone Offer Filtered Shower Head Recommendations?

That looks like a scam site you'd find on an AltaVista search back in 1999.
Been dealing with them for years, they are legit.
If you say so. This certificate is interesting, noting that ISO expired a mere 13 years ago 🤣

@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Whatevs dude. I've never had any problems getting stuff or service from them. (And no, it's not my website)
@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: AND issued by a company that had its certificate revoked 🤣
@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Ooh this is good to know, thanks for doing the research, this is why I came here, I’m not very savvy with weeding out the scam products/websites.
Hahaha this description cracked me up. You're right, the website was living in the 90's, but has good products. The website has recently been updated too.
Thank you for providing the link, I will check them out 😊
What state are you in? If you're in VIC or NSW then our water is perfectly fine.
I’m in Rockhampton in Qld. This has been an eye opener for me, never realized what town water was doing to my skin and hair until I had the opportunity to shower in filtered fresh water creek water where I experienced no irritation.
Try showering with filtered water from your local Colesworth first before outlaying big $$ for likely no outcome.
Water in that region is typically harder than others.
Why not get it tested for composition before you spend money on potential solutions?
Thanks for your suggestion and advice. Ideally tank water or a filtration system for the house would be perfect however we rent so I’m just looking for a way to deal with this issue small scale as we’ll be in another rental come November when our lease is up. I looked at council websites to research the water and catchment in the area but basically it could be written in another language as far as I’m concerned, the information was far too technical and beyond my comprehension 😔
I bought one that had vitamin c infusion thing, and returned it shortly after. Thing absolutely smashed o our hot water
Yes I have seen these, I kinda thought the vitamin c or aromatherapy attachment on the shower heads was a gimmick in all honesty.
it DID smell nice, but because the water was light orange, it made the shower look dirty
Hi op, I'd suggest to call PSI Filters (based in Tas) for some help/advice on which one to get:
https://psifilters.com.au/collections/bath-shower
Been a customer for 9 years and they've been honest and helpful to deal with.
imho a whole house filter is better (since it does everything) but greater upfront cost to buy and install, so depends what you want and your budget.Thank you so much!! This website looks very promising with a lot of options, and Australian too! Found a lot of products in the US but I’m a novice with ‘universal fittings’ and the like, plus they converted to big $$ from US to AUD not to mention how exorbitant postage costs are! This is a great help, you’ve been wonderful 😍
You're welcome.

It will be the water source difference.
The daintree area sources their water from creek supplies in the area (ie up in the mountain), but its still filtered, chlorinated and (depending on the source) ph adjustedYour water source in Rockhampton likely comes from the river barrage which is located right on the coast line, and has had much longer to pick up minerals and other dissolved and undissolved solids on its journey down to the coast. This means that it needs to go through a different filtration process, but the resulting 'chemical' in the 'chemical-laden' water would be minimal.
Both sources are chlorinated, neither council adds fluoride to their water, and both would use chemicals for ph adjustment where required. Your rockhampton source likely has more pre-filtration chemical usage, but that is to assist in solids binding together and being removed in the different filtration process. You can find water quality reports from both councils on their websites and use the differences to identify what kind of differences exist.
So you should be looking for filtration options that reduce water hardness
Thank you for this explanation, great info to know! I did try to research the water here on council websites to try to ascertain what was in it and so what I needed specifically to filter out, but I’m a simple person and I really struggled to comprehend the technical language and gave up. I just figured it would be easier to see what people have tried as true and effective and go on word of mouth.
The Sprite filters are generally well regarded. I'd probably start with those as they are reasonably affordable. Can be found on the psi website Ops linked to above.
Thank you for your feedback. I responded to the person above who provided the link. These look very promising, I’m happy that someone has seconded this model, it gives me a lot of buyer confidence, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again 👍
Keep an eye on gumtree or facebook marketplace or other used sites. Sometimes people sell off unwanted or unused Sprite units for about half price.
Oh that’s good to know, thank you 🙏🏻
Get a rain water tank and plumb to shower?
We are in a rental unfortunately so not an option 😔
did you end up getting a shower filter?
Yes I did. I went with PSI filters mentioned above, I got the sprite shower head and elbow. Been using it for weeks and it’s been good, can smell the difference in the water, only issue is the shower head reduces the water pressure which is annoying but a small sacrifice. Skin has been better so it’s made a difference, but I’ve also swapped out my goat soap for a QV oil wash and shampoo for a coconut water based product. Shower elbow has started to leak but likely hubbys error installing. Would I recommend this product? For the price and entry into the filter game, yes. However I’m sure there are better around if my budget was bigger.
We have a chlorine filter on ours, I have no way to test if it works or not. :)
You can put a whole-house filter on if you have the means, or plumb in a rainwater tank.
Otherwise maybe someone else will have some ideas.
We have this one: https://www.safesalt.com.au/HBBshowerfilter.html
