2TB Drive

These popped up on the camels. 1TB seems to be the cheapest price so far. 2TB has been as low as $433.94 via third parties and $525.81 via Amazon AU directly.

Edit: Looks like you can buy 2 things to get 6% off too. Looking through the eligible list now. Maybe others can come up with something cheap.

    Ridiculous pricing

        I doubt it, weren't they like $30-40

        Corpo simp

This is easily the worst thing about xbox

  • Insane, clown world is getting really old.

Isn't the exckusive licensing over and WD is going to release theirs so we should see these come down?

Regardless, hard pill to swallow with the 1TB almost as much as a 512gb Xbox S console, recently at $429

    • Yeah I heard exclusive rights are over very soon for Seagate. Hopefully high prices will come down with competition.

      • WD are releasing a card, but it's still only 2 licensees and prices are still a joke. You can get 2TB WD Black SN850X or Samsung 980 for the same price. Proprietary storage sucks. After all the backlash Sony copped with UMD, memory stick, vita memory cards, etc., Microsoft went ahead and made the same mistake.

        • With 2 licencees I doubt there's going to be much competition with pricing, at least in the first year initially (although really hoping that with a new player in the game one of them uses price as a differentiating factor). I'd like to see a 3rd horse in this race.

          • @Trishool: It'll be better than a monopoly, but so long as it's a proprietary medium, Microsoft will always get a cut so it'll never be price-competitive compared to off the shelf Gen 4 NVME sticks.

        • Pretty sure with Sony memory stick etc, Sony were the Apple of the era, Could do nothing wrong. Riding on their trinitron patent and flush with money and a "premium" brand, people bought anything they made.

Sony really had to work very hard with MD, MS, even breaking bluetooth to get to where they are today.

    • Yeah it's pretty crazy, at the worst the 2tb can almost go for a much as the series x which comes with 2tb of storage .. so either buy a second xbox… or 2tb storage… crazy.

It only has 1TB. The S comes with 500gb

    • It does look like something is on the horizon.

      • Yeah, a WD_Black, looks cute actually.

    • Problem is they probably need to redesign the card to make it cheaper. It's not just the lack of competition. Full size m.2 is cheaper per TB then the underlying tech in this.

  • as this ships from Amazon Global from the US. Will you be required to pay further import taxes or GST? Has anyone had any experience with this process ?

    • +2

Amazon AU already calculated the GST in the pricing.

      • cheers thanks

    • Thanks.

Edit: Can't seem to change my post. Something about a mod has to step in.

  • I have an unused / unopened 1TB listed on OzBargain classifieds. I paid like $320.

$250 is a pretty good prices.

  • Has anyone used one of the eBay cases with an M.2 at all?

    • +2

I'm using this enclosure with BC711 NVMe SK hynix 512GB (Gen 3),

it only works as storage, Can't play any games from it .. (had to move/copy to main drive to play)

I'm still sceptical in buying the 2/4TB M.2 (Gen 4) or wait out for WD version as mentioned above

      • I was thinking more these things https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144995703985

        • +1

Still need to pay for the overpriced SN530. I don't get why Microsoft insists on putting a whitelist on the CFastExpress port (and block 99% of the SSDs).

          • @netsurfer: I didn't even know the SN530 existed! I am so out of touch with PC hardware these days.

      • +2

Series S|X only support USB 3.2 gen 1 (also known as USB 3.0).
Getting USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure is somewhat pointless (other than there are some dirt cheap NVMe SSDs). USB 3.2 gen 2 is limited to PCIe gen 3 x2 (yeah, not even PCIe gen 3 x4, so going for PCIe gen 4 SSD on USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure is…. you know, pointless).

Microsoft screwed up I/O for Series S|X. USB 3.0 only…. come on.

        • point noted.. : -)

  • I got the 2tb $433 last deal October 2022

  • The drive is great but the astronomical price isnt. Only get if you are a game pass subscriber otherwise get an external drive.
