  • How often do they run it?

    • +2

      Every second.

      • +6

Don’t exaggerate! It’s every second second

    • +1

Who is "they" (Cashrewards or Belong) and run what? This specific deal? Possibly never before, or if so, rarely. Or deals like this with varying amounts of cashback? There's been one that gives varying amounts of cashback about every 2-3 weeks listed for a while now.

      • They = the generous charity funding the retirements of tens, if not hundreds… probably thousands of OzBargainers. Looks like I might be coming out of retirement thanks to the 0% profit?

      • +1

I wouldn't forget the cost of Aus Post postage which is also proportionally quite high! Boost surely making a loss here unless majority of us are doing Auto recharge.

IMO to be profitable, Boost to make Auto recharge the default selection upon activation and then leave it to customers to opt out after.

  • +12

No profits no deal, I'm trying to fund my retirement on that sweet Boost cashback

    • I got 500 of them last time they ran it. That is like $1000 free money.

      • +1

i thought you need to activate the card so you can claim cashback? did you activate them on 500 different numbers?

  • how does cashback work and how do they make money?

you buy using their link, do they give you the money back immediately or do they give you a "coupon"/credit?

so they make money via the ad referral?

    • Not entirely sure but probably get a kickback from boost for each purchase and they then give us a percentage of it

    • +1

I think the last Belong deal stated somewhere that cashback would take up to 90 days to receive. Each deal can have a different time period to receive cashback.

Cashrewards probably approaches different companies, a company agrees to pay cashback for new customers who click through the cashrewards link or site, hoping enough of them will continue with the plan after the first month to make giving cashbacks worthwhile. Cashrewards probably takes a couple of % of that.

If you don't haven't done it before make sure you understand the process before buying by reading their site and the description of each deal carefully. Start here but don't sign up yet: https://www.cashrewards.com.au/how-it-works

Basically you sign up (again, not yet) for a CR account, install the CR browser extension, disable ALL other browser plugins, then click on the CR icon at the top right of your browser, click the blue "C", login if you're not already, and ONLY THEN click the "Go to Deal" link above, add ONE to your cart, checkout and pay. If you want more than one, repeat but only one SIM per order.

When you're ready to sign up click the "random" link next to referral at the top of this page. Both you and referrer receive $10 if you make a $20 purchase in 14 days.

I think you're mixing Boost with Belong?

        • Yeah typed Belong but meant Boost.

    • You pay, site you bought thing off from pays cashback site the set amount for getting them the customer (After a long approval time, few months) , cashback site pays you out in either credit you can use to buy things on there app, or you can just bank withdrawal it after you have a set amount of money in the app, often like $10.

In this case, who knows why boost is doing 100% and 100+% cashback, theres no profit in it for them, maybe to up the amount of customers to sell their company, who knows.

  • You have to wait 3 months to confirm cashback tho

    • +1

Mine is about 2 months, bought one on 21/01/23, got the cashback on 17/03/23.

      • +4

Yeah around the third week of every month Cashrewards tends to clear the Boost claims from 2 months prior.

  • Can you port over your number to this sim when activating? As in activate then swap numbers? Might be a dumb question but I haven't bought a new sim from a carrier.
I'm on telstra pre paid and was looking at swapping to boost in around 20 days so this saved me $10, cheering.

    • +1

Can you port over your number to this sim when activating?

      Yes.

As in activate then swap numbers?

No. You must select a number TO activate… either a new random number, or a ported number.

    • +1

Yes when you have the sim from Boost in hand and follow the activation steps you can choose to port your number over. You give Boost the details of your current provider and they instruct you to keep your current sim in your device until the port over process is complete. This is when your device will show as SOS only, etc. Usually Boost and/or your provider will send you a text telling you it has been successful. Then you put your Boost sim in and you're good to go.

      • The way it's worded sounds like he wants to attach a phone number hours/days after activating a SIM which is impossible.

        • Hi TA. Any chance this can be extended to a purchase from yesterday that appears not yet dispatched?

        • Thanks a lot!

        • Perfect, thanks. Got one.
how many days do I have before I need to activate the sim to my number. I was just charged by my provider!

          • +1

@GeoK: "SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering."

  • last time I got a boost sim I could never activate the damn thing, asked for a refund, no idea if it ever came through …

    • If porting over from Telstra. You need to call them to do it over the phone.
I did it online, and it never worked. Had to wait 2-3 weeks for them to cancel the initial request and start the process again.

      • my worked for the last 2 times, port out from boost then port in to boost again with the new SIM card, lol abit annoy that you need to call them, it used to be you can just do it on their online chat.

  • Can someone specifically explain 'Cashback is ineligible on prepaid phones'?

  • Gawd. I've got 11 of these unactivated and I'm going OS for quite a few months on Thursday. Do I activate them just to get the cashback, or keep them and use them when I get back (but lose the cashback)? Been using them at home for internet.

    • Get cashback, it's free money. You can always buy some other sim for internet, no loss.

      • I wonder if you can activate 11 sims in a day? Ah but I also have forgotten how long ago some were bought so could be past the 30 day limit.

        • +1

Usually the letter it arrives in has a date stamp

    • This is interesting. Essentially free internet for the entire household. Can I insert this in my Telstra smart modem, turn off NBN, and use the data for my home network?

      • Yes, but you only get 4G from an older one. Does work though

  • Anybody tried transferring existing Boost number to this via customer support?

  • @tightarse Cashrewards showing this as $12.10 Cashback now. Is that correct as the table in the Cashback conditions shows the $40 sim as $5.50.
    Cheers.

    • 40GB SIM is $30.00

      • Ah yes. I've confused $40 with 40gb. So the $30 sim is selling for $10 with $12.10 Cashback. Sweet.
