Meh, 5% pretty standard for Amazon now that they barely price match anything anymore

    • Yeah i've noticed this too. It's dropped massively.

    • -2

Its a struggle for them to price match, delivery to you for free (and this is a stupid country to operate in with so many rural areas) then on top give you 10% gift card discount. You'd think Amazon is operating on a communist system.

      • Interesting point, maybe Amazon isn't viable here is Australia?
I agree, how can they price match and offer 10% and also take 10% gift cards. And any issues they offer a full refund and promo credit.

    • +2

They got their marketshare now don't expect anything

    • YMMV.

I just had 3 price matches in over a week. The first came the next day even though I ordered in the afternoon - I wanted to support local but too far to get C&C.

Second order Myer system cancelled my order for C&C at my local. They offered to post for free but couldn't use GC over the phone vs Amazon GC 10+% discount.

Just put an order this morning. This will take a number of days - seems to have no stock in warehouse.

I only get out of bed for 10%

    • How you reply when you are not out of bed?

      • +16

        Whilst in bed

      • +2

To all the zoomers out there, this is tied to a famous quote from supermodel (yes, they used to exist) Linda Evangelista, who said she'd only get out of bed for $10,000 (work), when inflation adjusted $10k USD was worth much, much more than it is now. I miss many elements of the simpler times…

Amazon is hardly the cheapest. Costco and eBay are better value

    • +1

      Costco gift cards on Shopback?

    • +15

      EBay is absolute trash.

      • +9

Pretty strong response there. I like Amazon, but I wouldn’t say eBay is absolute trash lol

        Calm down, buddy

        • -3

I stand by my comment thanks champ

        • +7

My main gripe with eBay is the bother finding anything that's a bargain with all the multi-variant spam listings to appear first when sorting by lowest including postage to highest.

          • +3

@Lucille Bluth: Agree. Multi-variant spamming makes it really difficult to find the cheapest price, surprised eBay hasn't done anything for years to stop sellers gaming the system. Also, Chinese sellers pretending to be local.

        • +4

Absolute trash is a bit harsh but eBay is trash now:

          • Always discounted eBay plus
          • External retailer sites are often cheaper
          • Prices appear to go up at sale times
          • Percentage off sales generally are marginally cheaper than an off site purchase
          • Multi variant listings
          • Difficult to use search (on Desktop)
          • Spam items

I still use it and save money but they do certainly make the experience as painful as possible. eBay is generally never my first choice for a purchase.

      • +6

There are still deals to be had on ebay but its definitely more effort and right timing than ever before. Can easily see why some people would just write it off as inconvenient.

    • Cat food and plenty of other stuff is cheaper on Amazon and can be delivered to your door within 24 hours. Only select items can be delivered from Costco and they make you take 1 selected item, rather than being able to exercise choice. For instance, I have to buy a 3 pack of cat food with beef and chicken at Costco, when my cats prefer certain types of fish in gravy. I also get 48 cans from Amazon for the price of 36 from Costco. This applies to heaps of other things too, where for instance I have to buy a multi-pack of cheeses, with one being onion flavoured, that inevitably goes into the bin. To round it out, the same 60 pack of toilet paper is $30 on Amazon but $40 at Costco. It will occasionally be the other way, but I reckon the all time low price of a Dyson vacuum cleaner on Ebay will usually trump prices offered by Costco too. My nearest Costco is 30-45 minutes away and I am also getting sick of the crowds. There used to be more good stuff there like discounted itunes cards, magazines and other stuff but it feels like the fuel is the main draw card now. OLED tvs will also usually be cheaper when on sale at any of the major retailers and they also have the full range. This is why I debate whether I want to renew my membership. Take another look and you might get a surprise.

    Got the Bezos card thanks

  • +7

Bottom line for Amazon is 10%

  • +8

If anyone is interested in the AmpolCash Digital gift cards in this deal, you may be better off going to your local Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo and purchasing AmpolCash physical gift cards at 5% off, especially considering AmpolCash physical gift cards are sold in multiple denominations and can be redeemed at ~600 more Ampol locations than AmpolCash Digital gift cards.

    • +1

digital is better, because you can't check physical card balance

      • +1

You can check the balance of physical gift cards, but it is definitely not as straightforward as the digital gift cards:

        • You can check the receipt of the last transaction where the AmpolCash physical gift card was used, as it will print in the EFTPOS information Remaining card value is xx.xx Card Expiry xx/xx.

        • You can call or email the AmpolCash gift card team, but I think they only operate on business days.

I usually stick a small sticky note on the top of my AmpolCash physical gift cards to remind me of its remaining balance. Not exactly elegant, but it works for me, especially since the Ampol service stations I fill up at nowadays do not accept AmpolCash Digital gift cards.

        • I just put a note on the card itself in the Shopback app - there is a note section at the bottom. I bought a few of the Ampol digital GCs at 6% off a while ago, certainly better than the lousy 4 cents a litre you get with Coles & Woolies, especially when petrol costs $2 a litre. Unfortunately, it is very hard to find a convenient- if available at all - petrol station that combines the shop dockets and digital GC.

          • +4

@omblygombly: The Ampol locator currently lists 223 Ampol service stations across Australia accepting both the Woolworths fuel discount offer and AmpolCash Digital gift cards. (The link has been configured to prefilter both these options for you.)

Considering there are so few Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo service stations around Australia accepting the Woolworths fuel discount offer, I think that is one of the reasons that Ampol partner discounts (e.g. myNRMA, myToyota, myHyundai) are relatively popular on here.

          • +1

@omblygombly: If you have an iPhone, you can load the digital voucher into your IOS wallet and it displays the remaining balance automatically

            • @Maltopia: Android phone just shows it in the Shopback App.

      • Woah. Why is that haha. How do you use up the last bit?
Is it different to the grocery store ones when you can’t just take out whatever’s remaining?

        • Partial payment is allowed.

      • Out of curiosity, how do u check the balance of the digital cards?

        • +1

add the digital gift card to wallet passes it updates daily

  • +2

I agreed min should be 10%

  • +2

5% is okay….. but only if you aren't restricted to 1x$50 card and you buy regularly from Amazon. Getting an extra $1.50 cash back on a $50 card is not worth anyone's trouble IMO.

    • Yeah. The the restriction suck

  • +1

It all helps. Bought. Thanks OP.

  • I'm excited . I'm saving 50 c more than my normal everyday price .

    • +1

      Where do you get 4%?

      • redeemyourgiftcard.com.au

  • +1

at least cashreward gives 10% off for $30 amazon gift card. shopback only can buy 1 $50 5% off.

  • +3

    The complaints are strong.
I shop amazon every few days. 5% is better than their usual 2%.
Guess you guys don’t pick up coins you find on the street either.

    • 5% is still not everyday discount yet.

    • I already have $500+ in Amazon and nothing to spend it on as their prices suck now that they don't price match much anymore.

      • I think we are just all waiting for Amazon Day…. rest of the year is pretty lame unless you need stuff delivered fast

    • coins on the streets are glued to the streets 😢

  • Thanks will grab an Amazon $50 gift card now

    • +2

      OK, you didn't miss this.

  • Better than 2% everyday. Bought one. Thanks OP.

  • Marginal benefit for me as I get 4% off Amazon, but… oh well. Little bit is better than nothing.

  • 5% is pathetic for a $50 cap.
