Trip.com Reviews - OZB Feedback

Hey guys,

I am looking to book tickets overseas in December, obviously busy time of the year and tickets are ridiculous at the moment. Managed to find the cheapest on Trip.com, has anyone on here had any experience with them? I had a look online however, reviews are mixed

It's a massive Chinese travel company which also owns Skyscanner.

Keep in mind that most people only post reviews if something bad happened to them. Most issues tend to be when people want to change their bookings and expect to do it easily and for free.

I've had no issues the couple of times I've used them.

Have used as well and they are fine. Just don’t expect easy changes to tickets at the 11th hour but otherwise haven’t had any issues

  • Asbindia , yes I have the same thought to use Trip.com too, and have been hesitant by their bad reviews. But comments from Bargainitis are most encouraging. Hopefully someone from Trip.com can let us their views here.

  • I've booked flights and accommodation through Trip before. No problems so cant comment on how they are when things go wrong.

  • The trustpilot 5 star reviews don’t seem genuine to me.

    “Excellent pricing
Excellent pricing, Best interface, easy chat and support, i had awesome experience booking first time. Only thing is you need to wait a little for the tickets to come but its all safe and worry free. We have option of expediting ticketing process in the application.”

I’m sure for most trips it works fine, it’s only when there is an issue with the flight. It’s not an Australian travel agent so don’t expect Australian consumer laws to protect you.

  • Never had a problem with them. I've had two flights that were changed (1 in 2019 and 1 in 2022) and it was easy to select replacement flights in app. Both times the replacements weren't suitable so I just cancelled and got refunded.

  • this is my recent experience with them if it helps. I booked a flight with them then the airline cancelled at the last moment. So this happened several hours before a connecting flight. The positive is its easy to contact support, there is always someone to chat with with. The negative is I actually got nothing from them that was useful. No genuine effort to ease the stress of the situation. Instead I felt that they were trying to scam me by rebooking me with a shitty flight (30hrs later than the original flight even though there was another one 10 hrs after the cancelled one). When trying to get the earlier one they said they could get it for me but there "might be charges" I had to commit to.

In the end I just skipped them and dealt with the airline directly and I got the better flight free of charge. The airline were even wondering why the trip.com didn't offer me the better flight right away.

I posted this awful experience in productreview and trip.com contacted me immediately. In the end I got something like a 70$ credit. This was roughly a $6000 flight for 4pp.

I would still recommend them because they are legit, cheaper, and in the end they still did something to recompense.

my review on productreview still stands:

  • Booked 2 connecting flights before and one of them cancelled by airline. As trip.com notified by airline automatically, it was easy cancelled, but to cancel the other one we need to contact the airline directly. Lion air seems to be only accepting WhatsApp chat not phone calls anymore and the chat was going in circles. Checking other replacement trips with trip.com were way expensive. I ended up checking out a friend travel agency via WhatsApp and the lost trip was replaced in 30 minutes. Weird on online the same trip was fully booked but available with the travel agency. I thought from then on it is important to check in your ticket the soonest they allow you to check in.

  • Thanks so much for your responses guys, I have gone ahead and booked my tickets and they've been ticketed… Now just wish me luck hahaha.. I guess it came out cheaper since it was purchased from HK in HKD… its about 1k cheaper than the actual airlines website!!

    • Hello! would you care to share how your flights went? I've been searching flights via skyscanner and Trip came up with unbelievably low fares for a full-service airline, so I'm kinda suspuicious! any feedback would be appreciated

      • Just finished up my trip… It wasnt too bad, had everything ticketed. I needed to change dates for personal reasons and Singapore Airlines was willing to take over the booking for a take over fee of $50 USD per person.

I would still prefer to book directly from the airlines, but like you said… it was WAY cheaper to book via Trip.com.. The reason it is cheaper is because they book it with HKD rather than AUD.

        • Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated!

        • Is booking through airlines cheaper in most cases? I tried Qantas/Air NZ in recent times, they're all seems more expensive than trip.com.

          • @foxmulder: They should be, sometimes they will offer price match to OTA's
