Even discounted Apple products are insane

I don’t know how did you all get your money, but paying $1.8k for a 128Gb tablet is insane.

Yeah what on earth? When did base model iPad Pro get this ridiculously expensive. Wasn’t the 128GB wifi M1 model like $1200?

      • +1

The 12.9" has always been a lot more expensive than the 11", right now the difference between the two base models is $500. Back in 2018 was when they really jacked up the price - $1699 for the base 12.9" from memory, which is about the same as $1899 in 2023 adjusted for inflation.

Oh, right, it’s the big one. Even so, hard to justify spending this much unless money is no object.

iPad Air M1 is the go for my money.

@get-innocuous: I mostly agree, with the caveat that if you use it a lot and keep it for the whole support period it can be worth it. I use my 2018 12.9 everyday and expect an 8 year iPadOS support period which brings the yearly cost to about $212, which is worth it for me.

If you don't need the extra size, the M1 Air or even the 9th gen 10.2" is much better value. If you're not wedded to iPadOS, these Lenovo's are even more impressive:

@Dogsrule: While I prefer a smaller size, I just retired my 2017 IPP for an M2. So six years.

Tbh mostly it is just a bit snappier, and battery life markedly better, probably because the old IPP had a lot of use. An M1 would be fine.

              • @entropysbane: Quality ipad that one. I had one (10.5" Pro) which got passed down through the family and is still in use. Only upgraded to my 2018 because I wanted the bigger screen.

Mrs has an M2 11" and I struggle to notice any speed difference between that and the A12X in my 2018. Does keep apps and tabs in memory for longer because of the extra 4GB of RAM though.

You'll possibly keep your 2022 in service for even longer than your 2017 given how improvements have slowed down. Thanks for reading my rambling haha.

    • Yes, especially when its slight less or more than Apple’s M2 laptops, albeit their laptops are not touchscreen. Having a MacBook with touchscreen that can fold all the way back and be compatible with the apple pen would make the iPad somewhat obsolete.

Holy crap nearly 2k come on.

  • M1 from Officeworks with WiFi/LTE for $1297 this was 1.5 months maybe

    • +1

Those are no longer available, went OOS quickly and will almost certainly never be available again as they don't make M1 Pros anymore.

      • +1

That’s true, this M2 iPads are quite expensive with minimal improvements.

        • Yeah I pretty much agree, improvements have slowed to a crawl. The only reason to buy one is if your old one is out of iPadOS support or is broken. My 2018 12.9 is still perfectly fine.

          • +1

@Dogsrule: That’s true mate, the 2018 ipads is still powerful tablet compared to some of the Android tablets or non pro iPads.

  • If you have the money why not

  • The 2TB 11” M1 clearance few months ago was a much better value compared to this, unless you really need 12.9”

    • If you don't need the (much) smaller screen, you can consider the 10.2" iPad for $500 as well. Regardless, that deal is no longer available and won't be again as they were clearing out the old model.
