  • Any advantages of using a dedicated ATX 3 PSU instead of using an adapter provided in the box?

    • Just neater cabling

    • less interconnections (potential points of failure) and hopefully better quality 16 pin connector

plus likely proper use of the sense pins

      • +1

forget the last part - this is ATX 3.0, but no 'native' 12VHPWR connector - reuses the 2x8-pin output (as seen in 2022 model ) with a 16-pin adaptor cable

    • +3

It's not just the 12VHPWR cable

ATX 3.0 PSU's have to meet a higher spec on power requirements and transient spikes so they are technically better than ATX 2.4 units

If you are building new and using an RTX 40 series card, ATX 3.0 makes sense now

If you are using AMD or not gaming, quality ATX 2.4 PSU's are still more than fine

just get RMx series at this price imho

    • Yeah I was going to say the RMx is the same price and supposed to be the more premium version.

      • +1

        yes.
i had a RMe for a little while,
very hard to find any reviews on them, but even the fan is lower quality from what i could find

not sure about ATX 3.0 but wouldn't pay this price,
        RMe - 7 year warranty
        RMx - 10 years

also cables on RMe are flat plastic type, RMx are braided

    • Is RMx ATX 3.0?

      Or is it better regardless?

      • Only the "SHIFT" model is ATX 3.0.

    • it’s same price for 750w as what i paid on for the rmx 2 weeks ago ……

  • Also the note on the A-Tier list about the ATX 3.0 is
"[14] Potential ATX 3.0 units either not tested for compatibility (no Aris review), not received the certification (no entry in Intel’s DB), having problems with passing ATX 3.0 tests (failed Aris review), or without proper reviews in the first place to put them in the normal priority subtier."

For whatever that is worth :)

    • See ChatGPT post below - I am not sure if my comment applies to this updated model as the Tier list does not mention which model was tested.

These BARGAIN PRICES are higher then other retailers standard retail.
On Amazon as an example it's been cheaper then this price since January 5th…
so how is this a bargain?

  • I just discovered SFX PSUs and they're so cool.
Very useful in my little 380mm server build

    • how so? pics look the same

Spec pages are the same on PCCG listing too - is this Corsair doing their (2023) bullshit?

EDIT: ah yes…. saw you post above - neg removed

Corsair marketing group suck as much as my eyesight - this 2023 model page says "The ATX 3.0 standard demands a high level of reliability and power efficiency. While many CORSAIR PSUs meet these requirements, RMe Series PSUs are formally certified for ATX 3.0 compliance." - nice if they didn't reuse the model name

      this 263 revision (ATX 3.0 with included 16-pin) - https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/Categories/Products/Power-Supp…

    • Why did the AI feel sad?

Because it processed a lot of negative feedback

Oh no i think Skynet's pissed off.

    • ha ha ha. good one

  • does anyone know what the practical difference is for ATX 3.0? Does it actually matter? I'm making a new system now - wondering if i should go this one or save the $15 and go with the ATX3.0

    • Depends on how much that $15 is worth to you.
It's basically just the new 12+4 pin PCIe power cable. You can make do with an adapter though and some PSUs have a dedicated cable you can buy
ATX 3.0 has higher minimum specs for transient spikes but i wouldn't be surprised if some decent older PSUs met those minimums already. If you're worried about this, just check if an older PSU you're considering has a lot of complaints of random power loss with 3080s and 3090s. The benefit with older PSUs is there's reviews and complaints already out there.
I definitely wouldn't turn my nose up at an older PSU if it's cheaper over this ATX 3.0 thing, but $15 cheaper is bordering on not worth it. That's basically how much those PCIe power cables cost to buy seperate. But if you're looking at deal on a PSU in the $100 range and it reviews good, i'd say go for it.
