I think my trusty Toshiba PT50A (purchased refurb in 2015) is on the way out, so looking for a replacement. I use it for watching videos, torrenting & light admin / document editing. Prefer a traditional style laptop ie not a Surface that I can swap out SSD & RAM if necessary. Would something like this suffice? Budget is up to $500. Bonus if has 2-in-1 flip screen functionality.

Suggest a 2018/2019 8th-gen 4-core 13" EliteBook 830 G5 / G6 or 14" EliteBook 840 G5 / G6, systems whose 3yr warranty is expiring and businesses are shifting them. RAM, SSD and battery are all replaceable. Seek one-version older BIOS than in this document if want to Throttlestop undervolt + TDP increase CPU and get +20% more performance. Best ones with 400n 72% sRGB or 700n 72% sRGB SureView LCDs rather than basic 250n 45% sRGB. Plenty of them on Facebook marketplace where can negotiate a better deal. Some G6 systems might even still having remaining HP warranty so they can downgrade BIOS for you.
Thanks heaps for the detailed reply. I'm quite liking this Fujitsu for $490 (thanks eBay code), made in Japan too.
for $500 laptop? Just get Surface Pro, then upgrade it again in few years time.
