How to Install a Bed Headboard to a Pyprock/Plasterboard?

Itis time to instlal the Mandall bed headboard to the wall. The issue is we have to install it direclty to the plasterboard.

The question is what kidn of fixing I should use.

I am checking Ramset's hollow wall anchors or their WallMate™ Plasterboard Anchors. It seems the maximum load of the hollow wall anchor is 20kg, and Walmate lplasterboard Anchor 10 kg.

The headboard weighs near 30kg in total. If we place stuff of a few kg.. lets say we need the fixing is strong enough to hold up to 40kg. The headboard only allows 2 anchor points.

So, can any tradies or handymen or anyone who has the experience advise what the best solution will be? What type of anchors should I use? hollow wall anchor or wall mate plasterboard anchor or something else?

TIA!

  • Does the bottom of the headboard rest on the floor? If so the weight is spread and the mounting points are for stability.

If it doesn't touch the floor, consider mounting a battery across the wall with multiple hollow wall anchors, then screw the headboard to the battery.

  • Can you add additional fixing points?
Have googled the name but not sure of the actual headboard.

    • It’s an ikea product and only has one L.

      • Being timber, easy to screw additional fixing points spread over the unit, hold to the wall, mark your mounting sites, wall plugs and you're good to go.

I ain’t no builder but I reckon you screw it to the studs and or noggins to do it properly.

    • Definitely the best solution looking at the IKEA instructions.

  • Don’t use any hollow wall anchors, way not strong enough for you.
You need to fix where the timber studs are behind the plaster sheets.

Or attach some timber across the studs and then attach the bed head to that timber.

  • Does their assembly service include affixing to wall?

  • Are you going to be using the headboard as a surface for nailing anything? That should be factored into your mounting decisions.

      just the wife…..

  • Bunnings sell a great stud finder, Franklin ProSensor T9 Stud Finder $89

  • guys, fixing it to the studs will certainly be the most ideal approach. however, it is not practical. and i did a bit online search. other people who bought the same headboard had the same questions. i do have a good Franklin stud finder. i will give it a try to see if i am just that lucky… alternatively, i may do something like PVA suggests to attach a timer across the studs and then attach the headboard to that timber.

Anyway, didnt expect this sort of issue when we looked for a headboard and the bed frame :(
