Noticed no one posted the JB Perk deal this week so thought I would post because looks the be a great deal and have checked and haven't seen the T8 AIVI this low in price before.
Key features:
AIVI™ Technology for obstacles recognition and avoidance
OZMO Pro Oscillating Mopping System for tackling stubborn stains
On-demand Live HD Video Stream for interacting with your home directly

The Auto empty deal for $199 (also in same JB Perks email) also seems a great deal albeit same price as in December. I bought one at Christmas and it works really well with my robot I bought from ALDI for $399 last year.

Your comment reminded me of a scene in Beverly Hills Cop

    • +3

The dock doesn't empty anything if you have more than 2 strands of hair in the container and it's literally a 4 second job to walk it to a bin. They're a 500 dollar luxury nobody actually needs.

  • +12

would not recommed ECOVACS to anyone.

    • No good?

    • +2

      Me too. Hated my ecovac

    • +8

Agree. Bought and regret. Horrible mapping and sketchy obstacle avoidance. Camera AIVI is a gimmick. Does not work. Ecovacs customer service is non responsive.

      • +1

for these many years you would've thought they will improve, but nah.

      • Interesting. The dreame d9 we have also has problems with mapping. It will corrupt the map every now and then that will make it impossible to find its way back to the dock. It was significantly worse initially but has improved with subsequent updates.

I have the multi floor setting on and restore the maps within the app when it decides it wants to double the floor plan.

I would be royally pissed if the more expensive models suffered from this problem.

    • +1

Then what brand would u recommend? I'm new to robovac.

      • Have had a Roborock S6 MaxV for around a year now and it's been fantastic. App is decent and it picks up some much crap from the floor, rarely have to vacuum. You can also get cheap replacement filters from AliExpress.

Ecovax is 100% waste of time n money. Bought one for my elderly folks, Now I regret the purchase so much.
It regularly "forgets" the maps, without any user input.
I have to go over and remap the entire house at least once or twice a month.
I have a Roborock S5 Max and would recommend that instead.
Though, Roborock now follow Apple pricing strategies and have gone crazy with their pricing of new products.

Ecovacs is an Absolute waste of money and time.

I've returned two of the top model with the dock and the waste storage.

They keep getting laser error if you even look at them weirdly.

Once I had to turn it upside down due to something stuck and since then it gave a laser error and wouldn't start back.

Absolute pain dealing with Ecovacs support to return it.

      Never again!!!

    • I agree. Its hardly a robot vacuum if you are manually moving it daily because it has lost the dock or gone through the no vac zone you have set. Constant map resets

  • +4

Seems like a lot for a vacuum without a fancy emptying dock.
My roborock S5 is still doing its job just as well 4 years later.

  • +1

I got one of those $399 Aldi ones, works fine for me Ive had no issues with it yet. Wouldn't buy one for over $500 though thats too much

    • which model?

  • I recommend Dreame

  • +4

    Don’t buy Ecovacs

  • Have been using this since Feb 2021, no issues at all. I particularly like the way how it handles the long hair on the timber floor, much better than my Dyson V10.

  • +4

go Roborocks, Ecovacs never fix their mapping issues

    • Can i ask what's wrong with their mapping?

      • +4

The app is the main issue. Quick mapping often fails to plot internal walls correctly, either leaving them shorter than actual dimensions or not showing them at all. This can lead to the vac not taking the most optimal routes or getting stuck on task. Creating virtual barriers and subdividing open spaces is harder than it should be. Maps can easily be lost after power outages/interrupting cleaning routines and become non recoverable, forcing you to re-map again. The app itself is poorly designed and there are a LOT of complaints about it, especially with Roborock, Xiaomi and others being the gold standard. As you probably have seen, the developers have not been responsive to feedback or criticism and have not implemented meaningful updates.

That said, I found the vacs themselves do clean thoroughly. I have an X1 Omni with dock, I like mine despite the many issues. YMMV in the end.

  • Bought mine including the dock for $875 in July 2021. I understand there are much more powerful models out now…

    • is it good?

      • Yeah it's been good. Yes the mapping can be a bit flaky but it still works fine.

    • I saw someone said theirs got tangled with long hair. Does yours? My house floor has lots of hair

      • I have the white T8 and yes hair gets tangled every time. Need to take the brush out after every time to untangle/clean it

        • +1

Is that normal for any robovac or just a problem with Ecovacs?

      • Every vacuum that uses a roller brush to agitate dirt would pick up hair that needs removing

  • I just bought the N8 which is a newer model I believe for $100 less ($550 total): ECOVACS DEEBOT N8 Robot Vacuum Cleaner,dToF 2-in-1 Vacuum & Mopping,2300Pa Suction Power,Multi-Floor Mapping, Virtual Boundary,Carpet Detection https://amzn.asia/d/7daxLsZ

It’s smaller than the T8 (fir between and below more furniture then) and has a better suction apparently.
My Uoni died before reaching 1yo, so hopefully Ecovacs will last longer…

A lot of hate for Ecovacs here and it would be frustrating having to constantly remap your house.

For the record I have had my Ecovac T8 for about 18 months and I have two levels mapped and have had to remap one time only,

I have it set to vac once a week downstairs where it mops a tile floor and vacuums carpet and returns to base with no issues.

It's a shame for Ecovacs because most of the frustration here seems to be with the app which should not be a problem for the company to fix as the actual unit vacuums and mops very well from my experience.

    • +1

Owned mine for 12 months, never lost a map.
Mines scheduled to run daily, and I've been able to set up virtual barriers to stop it colliding with speaker stands and some cabling.
under my desk in the study.
I empty the bin every Saturday and clean the filter out each month as well as clean the sensors.
My unit is mainly carpet except for tiles in Kitchen and bathroom.

  • My Ecovac is always banging his head to the wall, many times I found it hard to find it way back to the charging dock.

Wanting to buy the Roborock S8

  • I have this one and it gets upset unless there is plenty of space around the dock, such that when it undocks it instantly recognises the map. Once it does it is great, the pro mop is good. However it is sensitive and will periodically drop maps.

I managed to pick mine up for $450 or something some time ago, so this is not the cheapest this has been. I'd probably skip this and go elsewhere.

Having said that if you have this already the dock is also discounted at $199 for the auto empty station, which I did buy for mine.

  • kogan for $200 has served me very well the past 2 years just bought another this morning!

    • What model is yours?

  • +1

Roborock and Dreame are both XiaoMi
I was tempted by Ecovac T9+ but everywhere I read mapping and App issues is across the board.
And the way they designed the T9 with 2 holes for auto emptying, long hairs get stick between here, and ends up staying in the vac for manual emptying

Waiting on a better deal for iRobot J7 with mop.
But I think Chinese robovacs will have better suction power than iRobot

For hair tangles, iRobot's patent on the rubber brush is ending and I think in CES 2023 Roborock will adopt the same design, which apparently reduces hair dangles

      • Thanks.
Wasn't clear initially that I was looking for J7+ with mop

Just not ready to put up $1899 at TGG for it

    • exactly my experience altho mine wasn't the T9, the auto emptying of Ecovacs has flaws, had to be checked and unclog mine every now and then which defeats the purpose

  • I've found my ecovacs great unlike the others. I think mapping bugged out on me once only. ( Just needed to remap again)

  • Would strongly recommend not buying from ECOVACS.
I bought this exact model and enjoyed it until it got stuck under the couch one day and ran out of battery while we were out.
Apparently (according to the customer service rep who took three weeks to get back to us) if the battery runs completely flat, it needs to be replaced. Since we were two days out of warranty they wanted to charge $200 for the battery replacement plus $50 shipping.

Will never buy from them again

    • Are sure this is accurate? When yours got stuck did you pick it up and put it on the dock for recharge?
Mine has been stuck overnight a couple of times, so I just wake up in the morning and pick it up for recharge.

Seems they are trying to make money out of nothing.

      • Yes, I left it on the dock for several days. It will start up and charge to 1% and then immediately shut down. I ended up getting a Eufy to replace it instead.

  • So tempted to get this deal ($848 totally with dock) or T9+ with dock $899. But all the Ecovacs bad reviews on Ozb makes me sceptical. Seems like Roborock is a better choice, but it's also more expensive, S7 without dock $999. Having a dock sounds convenient(?) but I don't really wanna pay >$1k. Any recommendations? And is a dock really necessary?
Primary reason of wanting a robovac is becuz my house floor is filled with lots of long hair every day.

    • Just gotta wait for the s7 deals, i imagine when s8 is readily available, theyll clear out the s7 more

Got mine for $800 including dock from the catch deal

      • Oh thanks for the reply. Didn't know there can be a deal of S7 + dock under $1k. Gotta wait for it then

    • Its a pretty good deal. I have an Aussie Shepherd that malts a lot and I have this automatically vacuum twice a day. It generally does a good job but there are things that can affect the mapping. Generally I ahve found the more space around the dock the better - If the environment changes a fair bit with clutter or things moving (like ottomans or something chunky) then it will lose its maps more frequently and this is a pain IF you have areas you don't want it to go…. like a step down area.

The reason its annoying is that the virtual barriers get dropped and then it gets stuck. If you do not have areas like this then it really shouldn't matter as it will just remap and clean everywhere it can.

After a while long hairs do get tangled around the main brush. It will tell you when it needs to be cleared. I am emptying mine every couple of days due to the dog and a large area. I just got the auto empty dock as that was on sale so we will see if that is a good investment. It has forced me to move the dock and most likely to a better place for mapping issues.

I find the software ok in the app, nothing wrong with it really. Only if it drops the map.

The pro mop attachment is one of the better ones for this age of model (noting its from several years ago now) as it actively scrubs. One down side is that it won't vacuum carpets if its attached, unlike newer models which may lift the mop or what have you. The very latest models will clear out the mop and refill, but in the case you have to empty it anyway so for me its no big deal.

Ultimately the latest greatest are a lot more money and are no doubt better. This is not bad and when it first came out was reviewed as one of the best. Over time people have struggled with the maps but I think that can be greatly eased with careful placement of the dock.

      • Thanks for the details! My unit is small, we don't have step down area. However, there won't be much space next to the dock due to bulky things like carton boxes, suitcases placed against all areas of walls (just stay still, we don't move them around). Would this still be an issue with the mapping?
We do have a carpet in the middle of living room which gets dirty every half of the day. Hence having one that can lift up by itself to clean instead of avoiding the carpet is really great & needed.

  • Ecovacs T8 continually losing mapping data:

Returned our Ecovacs Deebot T8 Aivi after App continually losing mapping data.

I worked with Ecovacs for 2 years to fix the app continually losing map room names, which they couldn't. My retailer replaced one, and the second one did the same . The map names is used when asking the vacuum/mop a certain room, and this was one of the key reasons for buying this model.

The Ecovacs also at times couldn't make it to the room it was supposed to go to, would get lost. And, also not clean the whole house, it would advise it had finished cleaning and go home.

We are going to buy a Roborock, we have three friends with them, the only issue one of them has is mopping streaks. The new Roborock from looking at reviews has resolved this.

My thoughts on the Ecovacs https://youtu.be/9-D7wbPwL_w

  • Got the ECOVACs deebot OZMO 900 series back in 2020 from Aldi at 399 and it’s still going strong! Have thought about upgrading but it is still serving us really well!
