New Central Locking Key for Honda HRV

We lost our spare key for our Honda HRV.

We turned the house upside down for it and can't place it at all.

Anyone know they cheapest way to get a new one?
It has to be a central locking one and preferably branded Honda as my wife wouldn't have it any other way.

Also what's the likely price?

Thanks.

Basically your only option is calling/going to a Honda Dealer, if you want a genuine keyfob.

    • Might be able to get a genuine one cheaper from PartSouq?

Also, perhaps check with a wrecker if they have the exact one, but from a used Honda. Would still cost $$$ to replace the blade and have it coded from a locksmith though.

      Get a new wife

      • Or another wife…. Reduce the current one to domestic duties only

  • Call your local Honda dealer and ask for parts department. Ask for cost of replacement key (shell only). This way you can get genuine OEM. Ask if they cut/code it and price, or if they recommend somewhere.

Depending how new the car is I would expect to pay between $200-$800 total.

If you want a fake "Honda" key look on Aliexpress. The seller can usually cut the blade too for only a few dollars extra, and only with a photo. But it would still need to be coded by a local locksmith which might cost $150-$500.

To find a good/cheap automotive locksmith perhaps also call a local auto electrician workshop and ask if they can do it or recommend someone.

Having been through this earlier this year, be very very specific with what you want.

A "spare key" is different to a "second key" which is also different to "a complete replacement of the driver 2 key and functions".

Most locksmiths seem to use a Honda looking fob from AliExpress (about $35 if you order yourself) which may have all the same buttons but for some stupid reason can't program the remote boot open (guess how I know this).

  • Dealer needs to unregister the lost key if it possibly gets into the wrong hands.
Oops Honda, they just deleted all dealers and turned them into sham contractors.

Did you look in the waste paper and under the seatbelt thingy?

    • Yes

Well actually upon reading your responses to my wife she said she didn't actually check the front seat only the back seat.
So she checked and wow we've found it! It was in between the seat compartment and front seat.

        Thanks so much!
You've saved me a lot of money!

Lols… if it’s a push button start, you should be able to tell if the keys are in the car by pressing the on button. If keys are in the car, the car will switch on as normal (ignition will start if holding brakes while pressing on button). If the keys are not in the car, then, the dash will tell you to put the keys closer to the car.

This can help with determining if the keys are in the car or not (and whether you should continue looking in the car for your keys)… for future reference.

        • Maybe get a tile/airtag or equivalent to avoid it happening again?

        • between the seat compartment and front seat.

What is this? Do you mean between the centre console and seat?

            @John Kimble: Yes sorry.

            • @treeman: I occasionally drop my keys and/or wallet between the driver's seat and the driver's door, falls out of my right pocket. 😔

  • All round beers thank you!
