Green Coolant Leak in New Car Causing Orange Build up around Hose

New car, only about 6 months old, 22 model. Recently there has been a small coolant leak, not causing overheating and I only noticed because the reservoir was slowly going down.

Took it to dealer under warranty, they said there's a hose leak at both ends that needs to be replaced, fair enough, so I'll have to wait a couple of weeks before I get the hose. The leak is small, and car isn't overheating so no problem, except I just noticed a large build-up of bright orange, rusty looking gunk around a hose going into near the backend of the dashboard of the car. I assume it's the coolant hose but I'm not sure why a coolant hose would be in that position so I can't tell for sure. But I see a small build-up of the same orange colour on the lip of the outside of coolant reservoir.

My concern is the coolant in my car is green and it's a new car, why would this build up near the hose and near the coolant reservoir be bright orange? Is it rust? If so that's a lot of rust inside a new car. I only noticed the orange after I got the car back from inspection at dealers, because the hose is kind of hidden and not near the radiator, but assume the orange was there before. I am still waiting for the new hose.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Is it a Haval?

Doesn't look like a leak or rust to me. Looks like an over flow of sealant from manufacturing process to me. Probably been there from day 1.

    Just haval things.

You got nothing better to do?

          U got nothing

  • 🎼 It was the biggest mix up that you have ever seen,
My build up it was orange and my coolant it was green….🎼

Lol. I had ChatGPT finish off the rest of the song for you.

      Verse 1:
Under the hood, things can get hot
That's why I rely on my coolant a lot
It keeps my engine from overheating
So I can keep on driving and keep on beating

      Chorus:
      Coolant, coolant, my trusty friend
Keeps my engine running until the very end
I pour it in, and it does its job
      Coolant, coolant, no engine sob

      Verse 2:
But one day, I made a mistake
My coolant was green, but my build-up was opaque
It was the biggest mix-up that you have ever seen
My build-up it was orange and my coolant it was green

      Chorus:
      Coolant, coolant, my trusty friend
Keeps my engine running until the very end
I poured it in, but it wasn't right
      Coolant, coolant, my engine's plight

      Verse 3:
I realized my error, and I quickly drained
The orange build-up that I had stained
I flushed it out and put in the right coolant
Now my engine runs like a beauty, that's the truth, ain't!

      Chorus:
      Coolant, coolant, my trusty friend
Keeps my engine running until the very end
I learned my lesson, and now I know
      Coolant, coolant, my engine's flow.

  • Part is on order. Check your coolant level every few days. Keep an eye on coolant on the floor under your vehicle. Take vehicle back in when they say part has arrived.

Hose location is normal, possibly heater hoses if they are near or go through the firewall.

Are you sure the coolant is green? Common coolants comes in 3 colours, green, orange and blue. Orange coolant has a tendency to go crusty like that when it leaks, although it’s usually a brighter orange and more crystal looking.

Do NOT add green coolant if it is orange. Also, if you need to top it up, use de-mineralised or distilled water to top it off, NOT tap water.
