Myki Daily Caps - Do Metro & Regional Caps Combine?

I'm not from Vic and I've never used Myki, I'm just trying to get my head around the fares before heading over, but there's one thing I cant work out…

There's a daily $9.20 Zone-1+2 cap, and a Daily Regional cap of $9.20, are these separate or do they combine as a single daily cap when you use regional & metro ?

i.e., if I travelled from Geelong into the city, then bopped around metro Melbourne for the day, then returned to Geelong, would it cost me $9.20, or $18.40 ?

Thanks :)

Since 31 March 2023, it's a maximum daily cap of $9.20 for travel anywhere in Victoria.

Excellent, thanks… The "Zone 1+2 cap" confused me, you'd think they'd call it a "Zone 1-13 cap", or a "Whole network Cap", lol, I guess with the regional cap being fairly new it will take time for them to sort out the wording…

This will allow me to explore the Vic rail network this year, the lack of "caps" made it kinda expensive in the past… (I've done all the Sydney rail lines and ferries in the past, so keen to do the same for Melb/Vic also) …. (No passenger trains in Tassie so they're a bit of a novelty for me)

I don't blame you one bit! I live here and still didn't find their info to be very clear (until I found that page above)!

I guess the key wording on the page you linked to is:
"It means that travelling by V/Line, local trains, buses or trams—no matter where you are in Victoria—will be accessible and affordable for everyone"
But even that isn't very clear, lol

I travel with a campervan, no choice but to stay in caravan parks in populated areas, the more central caravan parks are either super expensive Big4/Discovery type parks, or they're run down parks mainly catering to permanent residents, and they're still on the pricey side really… Then there's cheapish places a fair way out like the Geelong Showgrounds, so camping way out then riding the trains in to cruise the metro lines and the city is the best cheapskate OzBargain option… If it was going to cost me an extra $9 per day to get into metro zone 1-2 from say Geelong, then I would have to consider paying more on accommodation to save on the fares, it's all a juggling act between time, accommodation, and transport costs….
