USTAXDAY

Original Coupon Deal

I recall looking at the 6XX and 58X a few days ago while playing around with the USTAXDAY promo code, but wasn't going to make a purchase yet. Then I went on the website yesterday and was randomly notified that the price of the 58X had dropped from 179 USD to 149 USD.

Not Drop related, but has anyone found any deals on Hifiman Edition XS? I give them a weekly google, but have not seen the price budge. Also, any reviews from people that own them? Would they be worth the $700 price tag?

they go for 600 on aliexpress deals and have gone for 600 on amazon too. for $700 it is not worth it since you can pick up a focal clear at 800 from A2A

Have these… Had for awhile (Drop's ver.)
Good bit of gear, but you do need an external amp to fire the up and hear the potential.

Like most larger driver units, feed them with a good source and ample power…

    • I've heard some say it's possible to drive these without an amp but I guess you're not really getting the higher volume levels if that's what you're after.

Correct. If you are not going to use an amp/dac, then get yourself some good buds, like the Sennheiser TWM2 or 3… Better option for an all round can… otherwise, the Samsung Bud 2 pros are good also.

  • Had them, didn't really like them.
For a pair of open-back headphones, they have poor soundstage. They sound closed.
Also it's a cheap band design. You will lose a few strands of hair every time you remove them from your head.

    • Unfortunate, guess I might go with the 6XX then!

Interesting. I've got a lot of audio gear and headphones. While i agree the strap is ok/average, they are otherwise very much an open sounding can and have a good soundstage. Mind you, i have a couple of headphone amps here as well. And always unit one for the 58x's.

There is a set of Focals also in the cabinet, and I run closed Oppo's with a DAC/AMP and they sound amazing (closed back mind you). Also 3 times the money.

      Senn TWM2 and TWM3, Sammy Pro Bud 2, AKG, and 5#17 everywhere…

Audio is like a relationship and food, personal preference… Depending on the use case, purpose and/or personal flavour choice… Cant really fault the 58x's other than the strap being ok'ish and not good/great. For the money, what you expect… Good bit of gear in my option.

  • I really enjoy these headphones. They were my first pair of open backs and still find myself going back to them sometimes.

  • Nice headphones but a little too flat and warm for my ears. Felt like I was losing detail and lacking sound stage.
The PC38X on drop is a decent buy and worth checking reviews on. Or the 560s which I'm currently using. Moved from the DT 1990 Pros to these and have been enjoying them. I run a schiit Loki to eq them a little and they really shine.
    Always subjective of course.

    • Did u run them though an amp? Shouldn't have lost much (if any) detail, unless it was without an amp.
These are a pretty flat/neutral driver.

Again though, an amp can have a sound signature of its own also…

      • I run a current gen schiit magni/Modi/Loki stack so the sound signature from the amp is pretty neutral.

So it's not that they lost detail, they just don't have as much compared to other headphones I've had.

The detail and imaging just weren't as good as my DT 990 at the time, I am partial to the Beyer sound.

Moved to the DT 1990 and then to the 560s.
