Best website for router reviews?

What are your personal go-tos for networking reviews? I'm currently looking for a router, there are so many out there. I would like to install DD-WRT on it because i've heard great things. Or, if you could go further, the best bang for buck router you've come across.

Thanks guys!

  • overclockers australia.

Whirlpool is full of fake reviews and trash.

  • +1

    small net builder

but its technical and they tend to not do ddwrt reviews

    this is what I do…

if i find a router thats on sale i google it with ddwrt and see how easy it is to install

put it this way, i have a Dlink that apparently runs with ddwrt but its very hard to install, i would never buy it (I got it for free)

if it looks easy, pay the money and get it

  • Oz cable guy is also pretty handy. He is a tech dealing with home routers since the early days of home broadband.

  • Note that dd-wrt is for routers only, it doesn't work for modem routers, in case that is what you were looking for. For space reasons I wanted to have a modem-router combo and I've opted for a Draytek… had it running for about 2 months now and its rock solid and I love it. Setup QOS for Vpn/Web/email/etc and so far its working pretty well (not as perfect as I would like but good enough for domestic router modem). cheers and hope it helps.

  • Just keep in mind that even reviews, what people say and DD-WRT can still cause you to end up with the wrong router.

Make sure you get a router that is powerful enough for your needs out of the box, IMO DD-WRT is all about cramming in extra features into your router, it runs on many routers, but how it performs depends on your router.

For example I used to have a d-link router that would almost fall over when doing a 802.11n file transfer, the internet barely worked.

Also make sure its 100mbit NBN ready (most are not) if you have plans for it when its in your area.

  • if you search on ebay you can find routers with ddwrt pre installed (Linksys WRT54G)

if you need a modem this is a popular choice http://www.tp-link.com/lk/products/details/?model=TD-8817
