How to Keep Track of Money Owed to You?

I have many subscriptions (video & audio streaming services) which I share with friends & family. They are all annual subscriptions so the deal it that when I pay the annual renewal amount I notify them how much their share is. I have 10 services that are all renewed at different times. Some of the services are split x2 or x3 or x4. I am having difficulty keeping track of all of them.

Wondering if there is an IOS app or Google Docs spreadsheet template that someone can recommend?

Ozbargain Bikies got that as part of their ‘Gold’ tier subscription model now. Refer 69 friends, earn 1 voucher for a free knee capping.

Serious answer: I just set up reminders in my google calendar. I have some friends who just set up a direct debit or pay up 5 years in advance usually.

They're certainly dedicated to both the subscription service and being your friend!

      • I don’t see him dropping india youtube premium anytime soon. But maybe lol

    Calendar with recurring reminders set

  • I keep track of it easily…

    $0, and 1 coffee.

  • I am having difficulty keeping track of all of them.

Keep track of when to tell them (easy as you just email then when bill due), or keep taps on who haven’t paid? ( harder unless you keep a ledger)

  • For subscriptions I get people to pay me at new year for the year ahead. This means eating mid year price rises, but it's easier to keep track of and usually only a few bucks, worth it to have a no fuss system and enjoying the shared discount myself. For some subscriptions, like access to shared compute, it means some people pay me a lot of money up front and trust that I won't cut and run. If they don't pay or message me around new year then they get kicked off.

      • Great idea.

Then they could use Salesforce dataloader!!!

You don't need a template, surely you can make your own table.

surely you can make your own table.

      and a couple of chairs.

Surely when you pay it you'd then just contact them? Why would you need a reminder other than the act of paying it yourself? Oh I just paid for Netflix, need to tell X, Y and Z they owe me $

    • Three months later one of X, Y and Z haven’t paid, but which one? I can see how a simple spreadsheet would be handy.

Does the terms of service of these subscriptions allow that?

I recommend they setup direct debit with you, gym-style. That way they can't forget to pay, or be able to stop paying.

    Splitwise

    • +1 to Splitwise. Can just have groups for each thing, enter the price in every month and it'll just split

    • Great for group holidays!

  • 10?

  • i dunno but u owe be 10 bucks br0

Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to whip up a Google Doc spreadsheet, listing the sub, renewal date, cost, how many ways it is split, and some colums of the people shared with, for thair amount and if they have paid.

If you want a reminder, then pop one in your calendar, maybe invite them too, so it is in theirs as well.

  • Venmo arguably better than Splitwise because it processes the payments

When did Venmo enter the Australian market?

      • Sorry my bad, not here yet

It's not a big amount, let them enjoy it for free. It would be at the back of their minds daily that they owe you something, this could be more useful later on than just a few dollars.

    • +1 for futureproofing for blackmail.

    10 services

How do you have so much time to consume 10 services?

  • I do the same thing. I have everyone pay me on New Years for all the services they use regardless of when they renew. "Yo Happy New Years man! [catch up] Ay you good to transfer me now for X, Y, Z for this year?". Everyone gets used to it being on or around New Years so it's not a surprise request multiple times randomly throughout the year.
