A lot of money to play Portal/Dota RTX and Harry Potter. Will need to upgrade this later on for UE5/Lumen

Harry potter runs great on intel ARC. I have a a750 in my work PC and its awesome.

I agree. A lot of people with the 4080 think it'll only run on a phone with a lower end gpu. This is a type of self reasoning that helps them justify spending 2k on a gpu

    • Thanks for that :) What's for dinner?

I made a mince beef pie with broccoli and mash tato on the side. How about you.

      $100 more for more ugly….

Don’t think this is worth the $500 over an XT

      Where are there $1099 7900XT?

      • +1

Would be in my PC if they were $1099!

    This or a 4080? Hmm….

    • My problem exactly. 4080 seems easier to find water blocks for.

What are AMDs Graphics drivers like these days?

      • Pretty good. I have 6800xt red devil and drivers are good.

      • +2

Water cooling is not that useful, 40xx already have incredibly overkill coolers and have their clocks set pretty close to the limit.

At this tier of gpu i would go NVIDIA, NVIDIA has better premium features and more power efficient this gen. I bought a Asus tuf 7900xt over 4070ti because the low vram, no complaints with 7900xt would buy again.

4080 is a better buy at similar pricing IMO. Very similar raster performance at 4K, but miles better RT performance.
You can get 4080's under $1700 now.

      • This. At this price, the 4080 is a better deal than the 7900 XTX. The RTX card is also more power efficient, even when idle.

I'm really impressed with the 4080. Sure I'd love it to be cheaper, but it's a beast of a card. I've been playing CP2077 with everything maxed out including the new RT Overdrive (Path tracing) enabled and get 80-90fps at 1440p with DLSS3 FG. FG is better than I expected it to be, any visual artifacts are very minor and hard to spot in real world conditions. FG isn't necessary if you don't use path tracing. Haven't picked a 4K/144 monitor yet so still playing on my 1440p screen for now. If I disable path tracing, but leave RT on the Psycho setting, I get 120-180fps with DLSS3 FG.

It uses about 300-320W when playing CP, temps 60-62c.

  • 24gb ram, so much ram now days. Cool.

    • +1

More vram than 95% of people with normal ram. Looking forward to someone installing crysis on the vram again.

    • +1

They definitely wasted more VRAM on this card. This chip would have done just fine with 16GB and lower price tag.

    • +5

VRAM has been a discussion in the community, with 8GB cards not really keeping up and having issues in various newer titles. The 10GB 3080 seems to be holding on just, so 12GB is not far behind that, 16GB is a bit of breathing room, but otherwise, it's 24 or 32GB, so, 24GB, not looking so overkill now I think. I'd consider the 7900XTX, just for the additional VRAM (over a 4080, over a 7900 XT at 20GB, less of an argument, obviously).

      • +1

depends on what you're doing, for some games theres a benefit but its not an absolute rule

  • Is the faulty vapor chamber issue in reference cards still a thing?

  • $1500 is my strike price

  • $1559 on amazon right now, even cheaper? Sapphire PULSE RX 7900 XTX
