HP 2TB USB 3.0 SimpleSave External Hard Drive - $119 from Officeworks

80

Mod: Nowhere on the Officeworks page says "USB 3.0". Removed from title but leave the original description intact.

How do you epxlain that:

http://pdfcast.org/pdf/hp-advertisement-for-ozbargain

It has been confirmed by Vortex99 who just bought one at Officeworks that it is indeed USB 3.0!

I know that the price was $99 but right now for USB 3.0 and for something that is in stock this seems to be a fair price for a 2TB. (Yes, per GB the Bing Lee deal is better but for those who do not want or need 3TB this is OK).

There is a Seagate 2TB External Hard Drive available but very limited stock as it is clearance.

There are two others that are equal or cheaper at Officeworks:
    http://www.lasoo.com.au/search/2TB.html?buypref=store&sort=1…
Seagate 2TB External Hard Drive $109 (as you mentioned) &
Western Digital 2TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive $119.00
So the posting is hardly a bargain, maybe good value but no bargain.

The Lasso link shows the one you posted as being $139.

    Why so many postings?
Most seem to be from www.amazon.de and NOT Australian based.
I have seen MANY MANY overseas based bargains compared to Australian priced goods but I don't go around posting everything that I see in front of me. Looks like most get less then net 5 positives (yes your profile says 7.1 and an average of 0.8 a week (but that not true for at least the last month (neither the average vote or how often you post "deals"))).

    • +5

The Western Digital is sold out and not available (at least when I checked 20 minutes ago).

Mate, can you tell me what is the harm to YOU whether or not I post 2 or 6 posts a week? If you do not want to see them, exclude them and then you do not have to see them. Some people actually appreciate getting the information and then they can make their own decision.

This is free - it costs you nothing so don't complain but instead be grateful that some people try to contribute.

And it is not my fault that Amazon Spain, Italy, and UK do not send many items to Australia.

The price I stated is correct - it is on the website and was advertised in the Mx yesterday - do you read papers? Lasso is wrong in this instance.

      • +1

I never been grateful personally for any Amazon.de posting yet.

Lasso maybe wrong, in fact its in your favour but it does show another drive with the same capacity and price so hardly makes your posting a bargain.

I've seen where you see someone else mentions in a discussion an item (about 2 weeks ago) then you state you will post it as a separate "deal" (not a bargain that's for sure) and you did but then its just another less 5 vote deal.

    • Mate, please post the many many overseas bargains available to Australians. Making claims without substance is not cool!

Amazon US has many Redline watches $49.99 which were $449 to $500 odd dollars and they DID post to Australia (it got to the last payment stage (I just didn't buy it)).

        http://www.amazon.com/line-18001-01GR-BB-Compressor-Collecti…
        $495.00 now $49.99

        "Items: USD 49.99
        Shipping & Handling: USD 9.98

        Total Before Tax: USD 59.97
Estimated Tax To Be Collected: USD 0.00

        Order Total: USD 59.97"

There are THOUSANDS of bargains on Amazon US but I am not going to post every single one of them or even a small portion just to get my posting count up.

        • +1

I am not going to post every single one of them

How about you just post one of them?….. or indeed anything….

        • You can go ahead and post it, you like posting other peoples discoveries.

I am NOT going to post a purely overseas "bargain" nor ones that are only available to a few people (like the Cadbury Whisper Gold chocolate bars 2 for $1 (don't ask for proof as I never took a photo and I am not posting my receipt which will expose where I shopped)).

I am a lot more discerning about any deal that I may eventually post; I don't believe the majority of "deals" here are really even worthy of being posted to a national audience (or even to a state (not that you can browse deals by geographic areas anyway)). Wow lets post that some bread or chickens that have been reduced near the closing time of the store, WOW WOW, I am so excited by that deal; its not like most people could go to that one store and this kind of thing (reduced bakery items) happens repeatedly across Australia but it is not deal posting worthy (it has been posted before though).

There are heaps of deals on this site which are available to a limited amount of people such as only Victoria or even one specific place. How come you do not complain about those? True, those deals might be useless to you or I if we do not happen to live in those places but who do you think you are insisting those deals are not to be posted just because they are not of interest or of use to you. If a post on here helps one person score a bargain, just one, then this is a great thing.
If you do not like it, just bugger off or set filters that only your deals show up. However, don't put other people down who are simply trying to help and share.
If you do not have enough outlet at home, that is not my problem but do not bring it here.

        • +1

I have MANY domains set to not show when I am logged in but is not working (that includes Amazon).

"who do you think you are insisting those deals are not to be posted"
          I never INSISTED, I said "I don't believe".

"How come you do not complain about those?"
I commented about your postings as it was your post (not someone else's) and frankly I don't find your postings useful to me. They just keep piling up on the screen, more amazon.de postings, like text/posting diarrhea. Yes that's to me personally, not anybody else necessarily. It is because you post so many of them (quantity of postings doesn't equate with the quality of the postings).

"If a post on here helps one person score a bargain, just one, then this is a great thing." Actually some deals have to have a certain number of items available so that statement isn't always correct.

        • No offence to OP but I'm going to report this discussion as off-topic.

          Also @Sydney Guy

I don't see you contributing to the community at all mate. Its not about getting the post count up but helping all and any ozbargainers in getting a good deal. I think the purpose of ozbargain is lost on you.

        • -1

I have to say Sydney guy has a point with some of the Amazon.de bargains getting posted up.

There is also a lot of misinformation about whether or not warranty on these products is actually valid in Australia and whether or not Amazon will actually bear the cost of returning the product to the country of purchase more than 90 days after purchase if a fault develops.

Having said that, Sydney Guy also bitches a lot and has never posted a single deal…

This HP 2TB is only usb 2.0 according to OW description, not usb 3.0

  • The Bing Lee deal the other day for a Bufalo 3TB external USB 3.0 drive for $149 delivered, not only has a better price per GB, but also a 3 year warranty.

    • +1

Yes, as I said, the Bing Lee is the best one. For me, 2TB is enough and I like that there is Officeworks in Brisbane while Bing Lee is only in NSW as far as I know. That's a bit better for warranty claims.

      • NSW and ACT, but then again everyone forgets about the ACT

    • Yep, bought two and one does not work. Had to exchange

  • Agreed I think a correction to the post is in order

For all you doubters look at this link

    http://pdfcast.org/pdf/hp-advertisement-for-ozbargain

I can read and I did not lie to you either.

  • I just come back from an OfficeWorks store in Melbourne and I can confirm that they are ALL USB 3.0 (there's a blue sticker at the bottom of the box)
I have quite a few of these.. (when they were $99 at Big W!) and they used to be in orange boxes (and could be USB3.0). These blue boxes are ALL USB 3.0.
I like these HP drives, they have ventilation holes up top, and take up less desktop real estate.

Good deal. I think you need to find a good deal on some sort of chill pill though Gallifrey, you sound like you're going to have a heart attack.

    • +3

I do not need a chill pill but thanks for your concern.
I am just a bit pissed off at people sitting in front of their computer, negging deals, making stupid comments, not checking anything for themselves (such as the Mx which I mentioned) and just plain simple being negative. The people who post deals here give their time for free and do not get a dime. It is pretty rich for some people (I do not mean you) to then just be destructive and be ever-more demanding.
It is easy to be destructive but very few people here are actually constructive when criticising or correcting.
This site should be more like a Wiki anyway where someone posts one deal and if one finds a better one you can then update so that what is displayed is always the best price.

  • Positive from me for both the deal + the effort OP put in this post LOL

  • +1

keep up the good work gallifrey. you're doing great in my eyes!

as for amazon and overseas purchases..its the same thing as all other things you see…grey imports come with the risks of overseas warranty and shipping. thats the price you pay for finding things 1/2 the price or at a discount. same with cameras on ebay from hk or anything else. its buyer beware and do your own research. fortunately for the rest of us..some ppl do appreciate these deals being posted up..relevant or not ..just skip past them if they're not. im glad we have people like gallifrey posting these up so i won't need to go through camelx3 or the different amazon sites to look for these things. whether u purchase them or not is your own problem. if they don't ship, then dont cry about it.

gallifrey obviously gets a little kick back by amazon for his affiliate links..but he/she has always been upfront about it and if you dont want to use it, he's not asking you not to. theyre heaps of people on ebay stores who are doing the same thing (etiher via their own contacts in europe or amazon itself) and flogging them off on ebay for a premium as well…so i say thanks to gallifrey and keep it up!

  • They're USB 3 with a 3 year warranty. The 1Tb version is $89 (I got one yesterday).
