  • Is this any good?

      The $140 question..

      • That question is 'bang on the money'. So too I would like to know.

    The obligatory Jayce Ooi review…

    (16 seconds too slow :)

  • if i want to project it to bedroom ceiling, how do i place this unit (so it shots up)?
also okay if i put this on some angel ? (as i cant put in the centre of my bed)

    • Will need to check how much keystone correction it has

    • +2

I guess you could, if they could hover still enough above your bed.

It has 15 degrees keystone adjustment.

    • Also wondering this. Would the fans get blocked putting it straight up though? Or maybe there's a camera stand mount that could work at that angle but hold it off the ground?

      • I think use small tripod that can twist 90 degree then somehow fixed it to something

        • Thinking potentially a microphone boom arm desk clamp with an adapter as an option. But it'd be good having a tripod for the bedside table that can take the weight of it 90 degrees.

I hit order but doesn't come til June so I've got time. I'll keep you posted what I do.

  • This has zoom in/out capability?

    • Doesn't look like it, have to set it by distance

      • No good and a deal breaker then. Gotta find the right distance to get the desired screen size, that is if the projector placement will allow it.

        • +4

          that's why this is $140

    • Yeah with your feet

  • I tried to order but it keeps saying "Website address data has been updated, please re-select ZIP/ Post Code". Ive re-selected it several times but wont let me go any further.

  • I rate my blitz wolf v6 for the 220 I paid it is pretty great. Needs a dark room but you can turn the picture brightness up to compensate

    • Noisy?

      • +1

Doesn't bother me. Sometimes the movies are a little quiet for the speaker but most movies and games are fine. Really can't complain for what I paid.

      • I cut a wooden kitchen bench in half and made a long timber shelf up high above my bed with the projector on top and a little smsl amp running around some conduit to a pair of edifiers up in the corners. The long shelf arrangement reduces the fan noise somewhat, drowns it out with better sound some more. I just shine onto painted wall. For the price I love the set up. Firestick in the back. No better way to watch a movie at night.

People bag on some of these cheapies but I have had a lot of enjoyment for the coin. Might upgrade if it dies but I won't until then.

        • This sounds like a solid setup, would you be able to share some photos?
I have a Edifier S350DB I'd like to hook up to these, is an amp necessary?

          • +1

@Rorschach: Don't have any photos. Not sure of your model but the Bluetooth from the firestick could go straight out into a pair of powered Bluetooth speakers. I have seen some people use a pair of Echos and synched them straight to the firestiick as a combined "Theatre Set". No cabling required and delay adjustment built in and all one remote.

            • @Chiang: Thanks!

            • +1

@Chiang: I've got 2x Echo Studios and Firestick "Home Theatre Set". Works well if you don't want to have to run cables here and there and the speakers are decent enough for a small space. Would be great if I could find an Amazon Echo Sub to add to the speakers, as there is no way to add in a powered sub to this arrangement any other way. Paired to a "Thundeal 93Pro" mini projector.

      • No idea… my shipping address was originally US - then switched to Aus

        • Interesting - have you placed an order before? I see "get $22 bonus when place the first order", maybe it's something like that applied to next order?

          • @snoopydoop: Potentially not - I had an account though.

            • @mshanann: Okay, just randomly got a $6 allowance when I re-added things to the cart! Weird!

just noticed that this is a preorder, expected to ship before May 20th, 2023.

    Should add this to OP

  • Is this the 'best' option for a 1080p projector in the $100 to $200 price bracket?

    Any other recommendations? Cheers !

    • +1

Check out the Jayce Ooi links above. He tests all the cheapies and ranks them in a spreadsheet by best currently available on the market.

  • Seems so according to Jayce

  • Looks like a good deal, ideally looking for HDMI-CEC in my next projector though, unsure if this one has it/not mentioned so probably not.

  • Mine arrived yesterday, it’s a little ripper for the price. Does anyone have a recommendation for a basic screen to go with it?

  • Got mine today in Brisbane. Picture is nice. Fan is pretty loud though. I wonder if there is an alternative silent cooling mechanism

    • Once I paired my Bluetooth speakers with it I don’t notice the fan. It might be a combo of it being louder plus my ears are focused towards the speakers rather than the unit.

  • Would this be good as an addon monitor ?
Mainly office work, excel, charts, browsing etc, no gaming

    • +1

It is great for movies/tv or anything with motion that you want projected in a very big way on a screen/white wall. It is definitely not something I would use for detailed sharp text type display. It is also quite noisy due to fan, and mine is making a slightly audible high pitch noise from some component within.

TLDR - great for movies with audio that will drown out the fan.

  • Thanks OP I bought one myself as the price was great and I had a need for one. Set it up today and seemed to work very well with a firestick. I'll have more opinions in the coming days but initial impress is that overall it's an excellent product for the price. It's likely the best buy for the price. If you are keen on a

Fan noise is noticeable but not too loud. I'll assess more in days to come whilst in normal use.
Focus works well although mechanism isnt super smooth.
    Fast moving scenes look fine.
Audio is clear and good for movies. It may also have bluetooth but I haven't looked for it in the menu.
    Pros
    - Affordable price
    - 1080p
    - Excellent Picture
    - Has Zoom
    - HDMI and USB inputs
    Cons
    - Keystone correction is minimal and limited to vertical
    -Lacking a Lens cap
-Only one mounting hole on the back

    • @AAA-A Can you hear a soft but high pitch noise with wall power plugged in, but the projector not running? Mine is coming from the rear of the projector that can be heard through the grills on the back?

  • I tested my unit out and there was a very faint sound but hardly noticeable if powered and not on. In order to hear it I need to be right up against the unit. Nothing that would worry me although yours may be different. After a few nights of usage I'm still very happy although one minor annoyance is 3 or so small bright spots which are just noticeable. Still great value though, it's simply me wanting perfection at a low cost.
