Looks like Officeworks is pricebeating Kmart who have it at $97. A heap of other retailers are listing them at $99.
Pricebeat at Bunnings who have it at $99 for a cheaper price at $87.12

Could be these rumored speakers:

With how good chatgpt is to understand context and recognise nuance, these "smart" speakers sound quite dumb and are glorified web search engines. Given I have 6 Google speakers and 2 Alexa, I can say both will be outdated by the next company integrating AI for conversation and commands (even really custom automation requests). Thus, if this doesn't come with Bard, best wait as all these "smart" speakers will become obsolete.
The smart side is all in the cloud. The local device does limited processing, and doesn't need any changes to access updated 'AI' such as Bard.
There will certainly be better local hardware based voice recognition in the future, which helps reduce latency and enables use when offline. But none of the current AI chatbots will run on local hardware or need new versions of the smart speakers.
@Prong: Completely agree. But, here are the accountants of the business in the room vetoing this option. Never buy with a promise vs built-in from day 1. They have little incentive to do so without getting you on some sort of subscription. Taking Google as an example (ignore Apple as they blatant about this), they have not allowed tablets (you know the ones you have collecting dust), be turned into smart display speakers as they are planning to release a tablet that docks into a smart speaker…
I have a Sonos One with google assistant.
The speaker is amazing. The implementation of google assistant is dumb as dog sh1t and never understands or can action what I ask compared to my google mini.
Because of this I am always in the market to replace the Sonos.
Does anyone have both the Sonos and google nest audio speakers that can compare? Is this a like for like?
Honestly, you’re probably better off with a Google Home Max. The Nest Audio is pretty good, but it would be a step down from the Sonos. Maybe get 2 for a stereo pair?
Source: I’ve heard both
Google Assistant on 3rd party speakers (like SONOS) is not at the same level for what you get on Google branded devices.
The limitations are so much so that SONOS's new speaker range that just launched (Era 100 and Era 300) no longer have Google Assistant support.
One of the limitations from memory was getting Google Assistant to make calls does not work on 3rd party speakers. There are more limitations put in place I'm sure you can Google to find out. Google may even have it on their website if you hunt for it.
If you read comparisons online, consensus seems to be:
From my end, I've been very satisfied with my two Nest Audios.
I had to replace my sonos one. Sound is fine but you can't cast to it which annoyed me. Didn't like having to use the sonos app which doesn't support everything. Don't get one of you are an android user…. but its fine if you use apple or have it as part of a theatre setup.
They never should have sued google
I have this and rate it a solid 5/10. Sound is not bad but not great. Mic is pretty ordinary.
Nest Audio is very good if you get it cheaper than $100
I often use it instead of my Bose Soundlink Revolve + purely due to convenience of asking for the song with google assistant
That would s what exactly why I was looking for one. But will wait till their event in May to see if they bring new model.
Bunnings no longer price beating, they have changed the price in store to $96.80 to match.
That is just unAustralian.
Google Nest products will be updated in May 2023, possibly the reason for this price drop
