  • Can someone explain to me the use case for these?

Are they only to extend a laptop screen?

Can you connect a Chromecast to it and just stream stuff while you're mobile?

    • +9

Basically a monitor that's more easy to carry around so a Chromecast is perfectly fine.

I travel a lot for work so carrying a portable monitor in my bag to use with my laptop is much easier than trying to haul some big ass monitor.

      • +2

I assume you need to use two monitors when the one on laptop is not enough?

        • +22

Once you go two screens you never want to go back.

          • +40

@Clear: Since WFH, i found 3 screens setup is perfect. Left screen (laptop) is for email, centre is for main workspace, right is Ozbargain.

            • +1

@timhn: I think you have better monitor options than this one if you are WFH.

              • @edfoo:

This is for traveling. Try carting a 34" around with you on a plane and see how you go.

                • @1st-Amendment: Exactly, that's why I replied to timhn if he is WFH, then he does not need a portable monitor.
You do know what WFH stands for right?

                  • @edfoo: He's replying to my comment about how multiple monitors is good. Since WFH he's been setup with 3 monitors and doesn't want to go back. It's not a case of he needs to get 3 monitors.

                    • @Clear: I know timhn was replying to your comment, I was commenting to him about WFH is quite different from working while travelling to different places. When he is WFH and he needs multiple monitors, he can easily get better normal monitors setup at home, he does not need this portable monitor from AliExpress. I believe timhn made that comment as tongue-in-the-cheek comment, to emphasize the importance of keeping up with OzBargain.

          • @Clear: unless you got a superwide or big monitor, lol

      • so carrying a portable monitor in my bag to use with my laptop is much easier

I try to do some remote work as a way to extend the weekend and struggle to find an external monitor solution. I rang around a few PC hire places and a few shared office places and no-one was offering a monitor rental service.
If I could rent a 34" for a day I'd travel a lot more and work remotely, but the lack of large screen makes it too hard to work through just a 13" laptop screen

        • Do co-working spaces have nice monitors?

          • @bozleh:

Do co-working spaces have nice monitors?

None that I've found. I rang a few and they said they have plenty of desk space, but only a couple of small monitors that are first come first served.

It seems like a bit of gap

        • Yeah I have exactly the same issue - trying to wrangle a large spreadsheet or any kind of multiple-windows-needed work on a laptop screen is basically impossible.
But it's also impossible to transport a large monitor around.

          ☹️

          • @Nom: Hp reverb g2, virtual desktop, bonza.

    • +1

If you travel with an itx system i could see it being useful.

    • +1
    • I work from home most days. Had an additional monitor then decided I want the space instead and went back to working off the laptop monitor only and when really needed, I hook this up for work.

Also great to hook up my Sega Dreamcast or PlayStation Vita to it while I'm at my desk.

    • I'm considering one so I can attach it to my XDX-XZ as I still like having the software attached through a laptop when I use it. I was considering a touch pad to make it easier to find songs on Rekordbox. That would be my main use case.

    • It's primarily for extending laptop monitor space whilst travelling or working off site. They're generally the same size as a laptop and quite light, so they can be easily carried alongside your laptop in a bag/backpack. I've paired one with my new MacBook Pro and it's basically given me a very useable and portable edit suite for working extra remote.

What's the disadvantages of using this over say the big iPad Pro?

    • +1

it doesn't have touch, its not IOS, no battery

      • +1

The description in the link suggests it's touchscreen.

        • +1

          There's 4 variants on the listing. 15.6, 15.6 touch, 17.3 and 17.3 touch.

      • it doesn't have touch,

        it does

        its not IOS,

        This is not a disadvantage…

        no battery

It's powered from USB-C so if your laptop supports it, it's not an issue

    • +2

You’ll need to plug something into this monitor, to watch content. I plugged a xiaomi google tv and echo as a speaker. This way I have a very large home assistant/tv in the kitchen. (Mine is a 16” non touch). Plus I can always take with me if I go on holidays. Others use it as a secondary screen for laptops/pc.

    • +9

      "…which I could also afford."

  • These seem to be great except for the 60hz refresh.
Ask the discretionary spending products are getting cheaper

  • Il going to get uperfect screens instead. They have labour day sales

  • Is it possible to connect 2 of these to the same laptop via 1 usb-c port?

  • Can this be connected to iphone?

  • How's the screen bleed on these? I have a uperfect screen. For WFH it's not much an issue, but noticeable when hooking up a console and there is slight screen bleed.

  • Ordered two for work travel. The invoice downloaded after shows it in USD, how have people gone with claiming GST from the TRS?

    • +1

Aliexpress doesn’t have an ABN. Businesses can’t claim the GST back via an input credit. Good luck with the TRS claim.

  • +1

I've got one of these second screens (not the exact model, but similar), and I had to get a separate case to store the monitor for travel.

The screens are technically reasonable but not as durable as, say, an iPad and they really cut corners with the flimsy and thin cover / stand. I assume the screen is purchased for travel, but the cover isn't suited for proper protection while travelling.

  • Ordered from this seller last month received just yesterday with a Dead on Arrival.
    Wouldn't recommend.

    • Did you get refund or replacement?

      • Hopefully he/she gets the refund but it'll probably take some time to get there since it's only delivered yesterday?

  • Is this better than the Espresso display? Do you know if we can get the magnetic stand as well?

    • 17 inch espresso with touch and stand is > 1K.
      hard to compare really…

    • Espresso has a nice design with the magnetic stand but I returned mine as the visual quality was complete garbage
Espresso displays are low resolution at 1080p, very low colour accuracy so looked very washed out and max 300nits which can be too dim in bright rooms

  • Getting AUD$214.61 for the 15.6" with touchscreen. Is that correct?

    • Are you using APP?

    • Try Amazon, I got an touchscreen version for $160+

      • +1

Can you link exactly what you found

  • Does anyone else have issues with the delivery of these monitors? I bought one in the last deal, it said incorrect address on the tracking update but when I reached out to the seller they said its arriving in May.

    • Mine arrived in less than 2 weeks. Mind you I missed the deal and got it full price. Might make a difference.

    • Mine took 2 1/2 weeks to arrived. I used the Singapore Post option.

      • Thanks for letting me know, are you happy with the product? I still haven't received mine. It was returned to sender as the address was incorrect. I've raised a claim with aus post to send it back (it's in NSW) but not sure where it will go. I need to claim a refund soon I think if I want to.

  • If my laptop is plugged in and charging, can I just run one cable to this monitor to get it to work, or do I have to run an additional power cable?

    • +1

I believe so, your laptop should be able to power these displays via type c if it can do adequate PD. I have the 16 inch uperfect one and have tried with 2 different dell laptop models and both can, even while on battery.

    • yep just one usb-c cable

  • -2

    these are shingding brands

  • I can never get the coupons to properly work on AliExpress. It's like a hit and a miss and then I just give up and appreciate that I didn't buy the item in the end lmao.

    • +1

      So you're using the app?

      • Nah that's my bad, I was on desktop. I might try again on the app after work :)

        • Yep the 41710 code requires the app this time around. I suspect future AliExpress codes will be the same.

  • I got the 16" a couple off weeks ago. Should have waited…

    • +1

Meanwhile all the 14" have jumped in price. A better one is always around the corner :(

  • Purchased! $166

    • Paid USD$107.29 (AUD$160.27)

  • Monitor arrived today but badly smashed in postage

  • Mine also arrived very bent and broken. I messaged the seller who said they would immediately send another. Do I need to do anything else with Aliexpress or PayPal or just wait on the item they said they've sent?

  • I got lucky then. Mine arrived today. I ordered the 2K 15 inch non touch screen. Nothing bent or broken. Works great. I like that I can connect just a single USB C cable from the laptop and it both powers and displays.
