JB Hi-Fi Mobile Phone Plans - Now 24 Months?

Just had a look at the JB Hifi mobile phone plan page and notice that the $69 plan (12 months) with $300 gift card is not there, instead we're now looking at a $69, 24 month plan with a $450 gift card.

I guess the time of annual port out and port back in is over?

They’re upfront plans now as well :|

    No more Telstra+ points either:

    What’s not included

    • Earning Telstra Plus points
  • Yeah they have changed to Telstra's new Upfront system so Direct Debit is mandatory now too. On the plus side, you can add International Packs on at last, and the $49 plan has no contract and 5G (capped at 250Mbps though).

The service early termination fee is now gone since the plan itself is Casual (though this means Telstra can change the plan price or inclusions with 30 days notice to you. The only term is for the Gift Card so you only pay out this if you cancel/leave early:

"What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee (if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term."

The max fee is $431.25 as per https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

    • Upfront system

Is this prepaid but with a contract lol

Thse deals are overrated. Locked in an expensive carrier for years to get a gift card to buy more crap you don't need.

  • I work at JB so I can answer this!
24 month plans are all we are going to be offering now.
I wish the plans earned Telstra Plus points.
No word on port in credit as of yet. :(

    Ask me anything else!

    • Ask me anything else!

So why bother with JB for a phone plan?
      :P

      • Because you are able to get on the full Telstra network for cheaper than the Telstra retail price once you factor in the gift card.
For some being on the full network is a must and we give them a better deal than going through Telstra direct.

To be on the full Telstra network you've got four choices: Telstra, Boost, JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys.
If Boost suits you then great, if not then a JB/Good Guys plan is always a better deal that saves you money in the long run.

        JB you've done it again!

    • Will there eventually be port in credit?

I don’t know yet unfortunately, I’m trying to find out ASAP. Will write the definitive answer here as soon as I can.

        • Keen to know this so please keep us posted!

          • @Craze: It seems to me that the best way is to ask Telstra or the JB salesperson prior to signing up.
I have been able to get a Telstra rep to confirm differing amounts and lengths of port-in credits.
            Hope this helps!

    • Anyone know if the JB plans are going up in cost with the recent Telstra price increases?

      • +1

Likelihood is yes, I’ve heard through the grapevine that our pricing will apparently have to change as well as a result of Telstra’s change.
        Hopefully not though!

Prices will indeed be going up. No ideas on the $69 and $99 plans but the $49 will be becoming $52 as of July 4th.

They will however be grandfathering the current pricong so if you sign up before the increase, you get $49 for the next 12 months (supposedly).

Based off this, expect roughly the same increaee on the other plans as well. Still much cheaper than retail Telstra.

    • Hey, so if i port out to a different provider and back within the next few days I'd be eligible for the gift card?
