    Not a genuine charger

It's also worth noting that if you are looking at the genuine article and do find it on special, it does not support 15V. I have one or two of the genuine article around and was planning on using one with my Steam Deck which requires 15V.

Also, there could be multiple versions of that charger (for the genuine one). I know the 61W charger has at least 2 versions. The newer version supports one additional voltage. That additional voltage is 15V. I thought Apple did release an equivalent new version of 87W charger which also adds support for 15V.

It is one of the not so great part of Mac USB-C chargers. Apple do release different revisions. I don't believe Apple will provide a free upgrade. It's a bit annoying one of my 61W charger supports 15V whereas the older one doesn't.

    • Also looks like this was $10 previously.

This comment from the previous deal is relevant -

      It's not a 'Generic MacBook Type C Charger 87W', it's a 'Generic Type C Charger 87W' that looks like a MacBook charger.

It probably would be good to update the description to take MacBook out of the title.

Yes, missed the part that it's not a genuine charger. I've edited the post

  • Assuming its real, sure

Physics has never been my bag (maths neither) but how do you get 87w from 9V-3A or 5.2V-2.4A?

    • +1

You don’t. That is due to USB standards, not this product. Charges exceed those numbers only do so with higher voltage. I believe USB standard doesn’t allow for more than 3A current.

All USB chargers that are high wattage, do so by increasing the Voltage.

      Multiple reasons:

      • Safety concerns, higher current require stronger safety measures. Also, expecting el cheapo cable to do 5A is risky.
      • High wattage charging is done in a progressive manner. The charger doesn't operate in 87W right away, it needs to slowly ramp up (otherwise your devices will fry).

    Generic > Heymix :D

Depends on how cold winter is!

  • I'd stay away. It may look like an apple charger but its generic which means you've got no idea what's inside it.

OP, you should remove MacBook from the title. Just call it a USB-C charger.
