Warning: Fake NRL Jerseys Made by "Sport Perfomance"

My family are big NRL fans and we like to have team jerseys.

At ~$160 for an adult jersey they are expensive though.

Recently we saw some brand new "genuine" jerseys on EBAY and Amazon for $50 to $80 so we ordered 3

All 3 arrived at roughly the same time from different sellers. All 3 had a single tag on them labelled "Sport Performance"

They all featured NRL team logos and NRL Authentic badges. The jerseys at first glance looked genuine.

However when we compared them to our existing genuine jerseys, it was clear they were fakes

I know this because
a) the tags that come with the jersey are labelled "Sport Performance" and there is only one tag, not 3-4 on genuine jerseys. The barcode on all 3 tags was the same, despite the jerseys being 3 different sizes and for 3 different teams (a dead giveaway they are fake).

b) The size label is ironed on, not stitched and it does not have the garment manufacturer on it like a genuine jersey would

c) the care label on the inside of the jersey is a simple white label with no team logo or manufacturers name like would appear on the genuine item

d) the quality of the material is thinner and lighter than on a genuine jersey.

It turns out these are dirt cheap on AliExpress

If I had known they were fake I wouldn't have paid what I did. All the sellers accepted returns after I pointed out the items were fake - but it means i have wasted my time and may not have a jersey for Magic Round…

Buyer beware

Why not link the sellers you ordered from?

    • I would rather not have some bikies come and visit.

TBH if you look on EBAY, I would say 85% of the jerseys under $100 are fake.

The ones that show photos of the actual tags labelled Sport Performance are definitely fake.

        Some bikies are nice folks.

OK, got it - jerseys with tags labelled 'Sport Performance' = fake, fake, fake, fake.

How's the quality? Good enough for $30? Looking for gift.

    • The quality isnt bad for $30.

They are not as heavy as the real deal. At first glance they look legit.

For the kids it's probably OK at the pricepoint. I notice there were some Dolphins jerseys in small sizes for $10 delivered on Aliexpress.

As long as you are OK with a counterfeit item that isnt benefitting your team, they look very close to the real thing.

Seriously. If the genuine article is selling for $160 why would you think the ones selling for $50 would be legit? You got what you paid for - a cheap knock off.

Yeah but when it's advertised as genuine and the photos are the same photos they use to sell jerseys on nrl.com. Including images of the players from the relevant teams wearing the jerseys….

Counterfeit products arent permitted on either EBAY or Amazon, but EBAY is absolutely teeming with these…

So report to eBay and move on. You tried to game the system by buying cheap and lost.

      • Just cos someone says something is genuine, doesnt mean it is actually genuine. E.g. "Genuine" leather is actually the shittiest grade of leather you can get. Its basically the MDF of leather. Dust glued together then painted

    • Also you can pickup genuine jerseys cheaply if you shop around

      For example:

Best and Less have genuine team apparel, you don't get sponsor labels but the basic jersey is good enough. Or there are polo shirts for half the price with some even on special.

    …can you post this as a deal…

  • You get what you pay for.

I wonder if they are made by the same manufacturer but some get sold into the 'fans' channel where they can triple their profit?

  • As someone said earlier, why would you expect them to be genuine for $60? Nobody out there is going to be conducting a large scale sales operation whilst losing $100 on every product they sell.

    • -1

I dont think they are losing $100.

These jerseys cost about $10 to make. So somewhere between the manufacturer, retailers, NRL and clubs someone is making a very large profit.

    Come in sucker.

    Oh no…

  • I noticed postage stamps on Ebay has a huge supply driving the prices down like 20%. It has to be perfect counterfeits or supply stolen from the printing presses/PO as they pass fine . Only the $5's ones don't look the part.

    • Yeah I've been wondering about these. Unless there's some kind of laundering scheme involved where folks doing the laundering are ok losing money on buying stamps at face value and selling for a loss, my tiny brain can't come up with how the ebay sellers are making cash. Have bought the stamps myself and they appear legit, and certainly go through the postal service fine…

  • Seems to be a lot of love on here

All I know is a lot of punters have bought these jerseys thinking they are legit licensed product and they are not. Surprised the NRL isn't doing more to stop it given the revenue they are losing as a result….

I'm never surprised on the negativity of people when it comes to forums in general, you could literally be warning someone of an issue and people will just bad mouth you because they're bored or explain how you should know better.

God forbid you ask for advice on something, they'll eat you up haha! I read an article a few years ago about someone who made a Reddit account and would post wrong answers to questions to purposely get someone to correct them. People would rather prove you wrong then to help you with advice.
