Probably works for inactive existing accounts, but unlikely to work if you have an active account.

you're better off waiting for it to lapse then doing the XBL Gold 36 month trick. Costs about $100-150 for 3 years of ultimate.

They redeemed fine on my account via Turkey VPN and then used the $15.95 Game Pass Ultimate existing user upgrade to convert to 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate. Came to a total of $154.49.
Will look into it when this expires. $150 for 36 months is approx twice as expensive per month as this deal, but the convenience would be good.
@tellhimhesdreaming: You'd be relying on this deal existing for 18 consecutive 2 month blocks, also with no overlap.
I actually just found a deal which would work out to $103.68 + $15.95 for 36 months, no VPN required.

These are 3 month cards, buy 9 at $11.52 each. (please note I haven't tried this in a while so maybe do it 1 at a time)
Redeem 1 at a time with recurring billing turned off. It should ask you whether you want to opt into recurring billing for a free month of Xbox live gold, making it 4 months per card. After you redeem the card, turn off recurring billing and repeat for the next one.
I did this for every card I bought last time I did this and it offered me a free month every time, bringing it to 36 months total. If it works let me know and I'll make it a post.

Also that price is in US dollar, ends up being around $51 AUD per year so actually costs more than the usual 12 month VPN method.

The 3 year xbox live to game pass ultimate with a turkey vpn is a much better deal if you were looking at long term.

Let me reduce the risk a little. Get the vpn first. Some works and some not. Its a pain to find out after buying your codes that it doesn't work. Nord vpn worked for me for turkey by turning some server options in the settings. I got nord and cancelled it after applying this subscription and they refunded the amount.
Now how you test it is:
1) Get nord vpn and select turkey server (there is a setting in nord to select obfuscated server. Do that. That worked for me. The normal selecting turkey didn't work)
2) Go on your account page where you apply the link
3) Copy paste this code: T7J7D-4VCTQ-DXPFP-HY9M3-YW9CZ (No. I'm not giving a free code. I've used this one so it won't work now. But you need a valid code to test.)
4) If error says code already used then VPN is working - Keep this window opened then. If its another error like incorrect region or something then VPN not working. Dont buy your codes yet then.
5) Now if error states Code already used - keep this window opened and go straight to wherever u getting your codes from. I did from Eneba. Buy it. And apply it in this window straight up. Hopefully it works.
With these steps atleast you are not stuck with $150+ of codes you cannot use. There is still a risk that the last step of buying game pass ultimate and transferring all gold to ultimate wont work as is experienced by some people, but then what is life without a little risk. Good luck !
@FunkyPants: FYI you don't have to buy a VPN just for this, there are some free VPN options that have been confirmed to work (like UrbanVPN)

Existing subs can only use global GPU/Gold keys to extend, so is still a bit pricey (~$10/month) and there's rarely sales on these.
If you're that worried, you are better off creating a new account and going for the VPN method.
