They put the price of the Gigabyte 4090 OC up $100 then included the SSD valued at $100. Well played Shopping express, well played

Look at that price. I can fly to Paris, have a coffee and come back with money to spare.

Guess they're still following the Apple model and training our tiny brains to pay much more of GPUs.

    • +3

Yeah, this should've been an AUD $999 card.
Then at least it would've been competitive against last-gen cards.

Nvidia have slowly been raising up their profit margins, at least dating from the GTX-600 and upto the GTX-1600. But they've been blatant with the RTX-2000, and RTX-4000 series. The RTX-3000 series wasn't good either, but it was sandwiched between two poopy generations, so it seems good from that aspect. Even then, it got scalped, then pandemic'd, then got crypto'd, then got chip shortaged, then got inflation. So it wasn't a great ride for mainstream consumers, not until the past 12 months or so.

AMD basically has the better technology, but they utilise it for servers and other products. They don't care about dGPU Market, only the technology it brings. They've lost the dGPU War, like back in 2014. So now they're content to let Nvidia drive the market and they will follow (thermals, heat, efficiency, performance, price, features, etc).

      • Back in my day you could buy a top of the line gpu and still have a nickels change left for a pack of ciggies on the way home!

        • +1

Back in my day a GPU was the choice between colours (CGA) or hi-res mono (Hercules)!

Waiting for 4090 for below 2k if that would happen ever.

    • 3090 dropped to bellow 2k right before/around 4090 release, so likely 4090 would also drop in a year or so.

      • +2

nvidia had the liberty of having the crypto pump around that time pushing sales. Nothing to help them keep prices high this time.

        • ChatGPT and other similar systems may partially compensate, currently it's mostly nvidia based (except of google own accelerators), sold for much more than the current gaming chips.

I hope Nvidia contracted more TSMC capacity than ChatGPT can consume.

@DmytroP: …prices don't just constantly fall because as prices drop demand changes. Nvidia also seem pretty happy with the 4090 sales and they have held up well when compared to 4080 and 70ti price drops. Outside of clearances, without new factors coming into play there are certain price points that they won't sell below.

changes that could get 4090 to go below 2k
            * 5000 series as DmytroP mentioned
            * 4090Ti, but seems unlikely given AMD hasn't come to the high end party

Nvidia could also release a 4080Ti @ 1999 and this may make the 4090 more attractive but certainly keep the price in the 2.5k region. This would also cement in the 4080s to a more pallateable price and keep them around where they will end up for the 5000 series.

            edit: replied to wrong person

      • Dropped to 1400 from memory. 3080 12gb was also hitting sub 1k at the time as well.

    • Same

      HODL FOREVER!

      • +7

Not Holding, i just refuse to spend that much on Graphic Card. I will stay in lower resolution.

  • +4

Prices are only going one way.

    • Up?

  • -2

prolly under $1500 EOFY, but pretty good deal regarding this one has vapour chamber cooling, and 970 has dram righto??

  • I paid $1679 for mine without the SSD, but will use price protection to claim back any drops. Hopefully can get a few hundred bucks back at least over the next 12 months.

  • -3

    it's a buy at 1500 i reckon…

    • You can sell the SSD then maybe, I reckon it gets close to $1500…

      • +2

You wouldn't get more than $100 for the SSD, so this is pretty much $1600

    • 1200

  • lol $1700 for a 2nd tier gpu

  • how much was 3080 MSRP?

    • If I remember correctly, for the similar 3080 card the launch price was around 1400-1500.

    • I got a 3080 day 2 release at $1139,

I also got a 5950x cpu at release for $1250..and they dropped a shitload a year later after the shortage

      • +3

        3080 MSRP was $1139

But a 3080 gaming oc didn't launch at that price and are always slightly higher (eg above eagle but below Aorus) from memory gaming oc rrp was $1300 or $1349.

This is a solid deal in my books.

        • Not until you compare the die sizes.

        • +6

EVGA's XC3 series came at MSRP. The FTW3 series were only $100 more than MSRP at launch. RIP EVGA ;(

    • In australia about 1499 plus..

      So this is not a bad deal,consdering a 4080 gives u 3090/ti level performance

These would be a good buy at 1499

  • Not even an all time low, and even that price was terrible.

Great deal if you want the people in their life to be able to quantify just how much more money than sense you have.

  • +1

$1200 or nothing, got a 3070 that can still run everything i play, yeah yeah reviewers say there's a 8gb vram limitation for a handful of shi* games, but if you don't even want to play those games, who cares. If I can't run a must have game, say a cyberpunk / next crysis I'll upgrade

    • +1

if you make a game that uses more than 8GB VRAM you cut off 50% of gamers market, where is the point in that?

      • +1

People said the same thing with 6gb vram card before lol

        • look at steam hardware survey,

more than 50% in 6-8GB bracket

  • +3

    Nah, gimme 7900xt(x) deals

  • +2

I paid about $2200 for my 3080 in January last year, and that's just a Palit 10GB model. This seems like a bargain. In hindsight I wish I had waited and bought the 4090.

    • +3

Don't take this the wrong way but that was just you being an idiot. It is not a bargain and should be about $500 cheaper.

  • +1

    hodling 1080ti forever

    • +3

I just upgraded to a RTX4070TI from a GTX1080TI, a huge jump in performance. Used a $300 cashback credit card to get card for $1104. Let the bank pay nvidia greed tax

      • What is this cashback you speak of?

        • Look for credit card deals on this site - it's common for new credit cards to come with perks such as cashbacks for when you spend specific amounts within a period of time.
