Has anyone saved money using smile or have any feedback about them?
I emailed them last week with a dental plan from my local dentist and asked them for a cost of certain dental codes, they didn't want to give me a price and told me I need to go into one of their dentists to get a dental plan before they can give a cost.

    • See my most recent post for my experience yesterday!

Took a look at what benefits would apply to NSW, essentially what it is is discounts off certain procedures, but will vary from dentist to dentist. Undecided if this is worth it for not for the price.

  • Looks like a dental version of the dodgy funeral plan scam that was sucking people in?

If you don't have a private health cover, it can be worth it.

  • I had an awful experience with them - very little coverage, the one dentist did such a bad job had to go back twice. Then could not cancel and effectively paid one year without any benefits. Would recommend staying away

    • Seems like the care provider is to be blamed in your case? There are a lot of dentists in VIC (esp metro vic) who has smile so you can try those clinics and still get the discount.

Thanks OP. Got the 2 year family cover at 40% off. Some very well reviewed Smile clinics near me and if they even charge the max fee listed on their website, it will be a great saving compared to what I pay at another local clinic.

No worries. Make sure you put your referral link so you have the chance to get the 40% off on your next renewal :)

      • Thanks again. I have just added my link.

  • How do I get 40% off?

click the random (18) on the referral link above and it will take you to the sign up page

  • Thanks OP. My wife was looking at this today, I had a quick look for discounts and came across your post. Great timing. I grabbed the 40% on the family plan. Worth a punt.

    • No worries! I just posted my experience from yesterday too!

  • Okay I just finished my consultation with my dentist yesterday. I saved 47 dollars from the total invoice which was all around 200 after discount. General check up plus cleaning and minor stuff.

Smile app allows you to normally scan your invoice and tell you how much you have saved based from the id codes of the procedure in the invoice. Just to try, I also scanned my treatment plan for my next visit (which is not an invoice) and smile manually checked it and I'll be saving around 700 plus on my next procedure that will roughly cost me 3000ish before discount!

If you're a person who only wants to do general cleaning max once a year and have a perfectly healthy mouth, then it's probably not worth it.

But for people doing more than 1 cleaning and checkup a year, which is what's recommended anyways, and are anticipating procedures to be done, then it's definitely worth it!

Also, thanks to the people who signed up from the random referral system above, my renewal is already discounted to 40% plus 15% for following additional steps in the app. :)

In the past, I've worked at a dental practice which used smile.com.au. As ozchobie mentioned, if you have a decent treatment plan, the savings add up quickly.
I think it works out to be 15% off the practice's fees, but can't rememer exactly.

    • Should be a winner for me as I have 5 people on the family plan @ around $65 per year.
