Looking for a Torch with USB-C Charging

Hi, looking for a torch that is compact and has USB-C charging and has a very strong long distance light. One of those ones that you see the marking that lights up the whole road many many metres away.

My friend has one that lights up half the lake when we were out but didn't know what it was brand wise.

Looking for suggestions

You'd think they'd ask their friend.

    • Makes sense, but if you re-read the OP, i mention "My friend has one that lights up half the lake when we were out but didn't know what it was brand wise."

      • +1

This might be a wild suggestion, but if you're still in contact, could I suggest that maybe you could speak to your friend?

A suggestions for this could be:

        • "Hey mate, what was that torch you had at the lake that specifically only lit up half of the lake?"

Good luck, and please keep up posted on how the conversation with your friend proceeds

        • +1

          Nothing wild about it

But, as mentioned, he didnt know what the brand was let alone model #, to be more specific it has no markings on it to indicate a brand or model

          Lets move on hey

          • @buzurk: Yep my bad, I missed that he didn't know what it was either.

            🤝

looks like plenty of options in the thread now so ill do some research

    Wuben c3 (ozbargainers choice)

Or t1 if your budget extends

Or sofirn if for some reason you don’t like Wuben.

    • Thanks, Will check these out!

    • Not knowing how much you want to spend I'd second the Wuben C3 to get started,

Pretty capable little torch, includes battery and can be had for around the $25 mark if you keep your eye on it.

      • Honestly for like $30 shipped by amazon I’d still say worth

  • Your phone? Just stand closer to what you want to illuminate to illuminate things far away.

  • I shoved it into chatgpt

    • There's been a not insignificant amount of queries where Google will be filled with ad spam and unrelated results, and ChatGPT will answer my query directly and to the point.

I don't have to trust all the answers, but it's certainly more highly rated than Google in my opinion.

      • For those wondering I just copy and pasted in the OPs question with no effort.

But then I looked up the product on google and told it to make me a table

    • Thanks, Will check these out!

My friend has one that lights up half the lake when we were out but didn't know what it was brand wise.

You are talking about two different lights. One with good throw. One flood. The fact you think it does both to me says you want bright floodlight. Because torch with very long throw will light up a very small patch of a lake.

    • Can't you just adjust it

      • not many torches are adjustable. Yes you can change the brightness with a button click, but that's different.

        • Sounds like you need to get a real torch

My M7R has lasted me 10 years.

Here is a high power spot to throw: https://ledlenser.com.au/collections/rechargeable-torches/pr…

          • @deme: Already have a real torch - 4000+ lumen floodlight, and 1000+ lumen spotlight that will light up hundreds of metres away. m7r - at 220 lumen is not going to cut it for the OP.

            • @iamherenow: What model

              • @deme: Shell from aliexpress. Put in my own leds, sinkpads, cooling, drivers etc.

                  • +1

@deme: You do realise there are heaps of people who build their own torches? Have a look on BLF.

                    • @iamherenow: I built a few back in the day. Mostly C8 hosts with, if my memory is correct, dedomed xpg2 on copper stars.

                      • @mapax: That's sounding familiar - I remember killing lots of led's trying to dedome them.

My final one I still use today is a 5 led one. PUt the LEDs on the copper sinkpads in turn on a massive hunk of copper i mounted in the torch. Did the programming on it too, which was fun. Looking back - i had too much time on my hands…

                    • @iamherenow: I do, got a photo?

                      • @deme: Yes I do! It's a torch. It looks like a torch.

  • How about buying rechargeable AA/AAA cells that charge with USB C instead ?

    • +1

AA/AAA doesn't have enough power for a very bright torch.

  • +2

How far is “many many metres” and how big is the lake?

  • Some good quality torches/lanterns available from here …… https://www.olightstore.com.au/

Maybe this is something light you are after?

    https://www.olightstore.com.au/marauder-mini-bundles.html

Marauder Mini: An array of LEDs offers two powerful beam choices, a 600-meter max throw from the central LED's spotlight beam, or a 7000-lumen max output floodlight beam from the 9 surrounding LEDs

✦ Obulb Plus: Stepless Dimming Touch Switch: Conveniently control the Obulb Plus manually to turn it on/off, change modes and brightness level

  • It depends on how small you'd like to go and how much you'd like to spend.

Olight has a decent range like the i1R 2 Pro EOS which puts out 180 lumens for around the $30 mark (I think they have a sale on at 7pm tonight which brings it down to $23.96).

Most of their other models have a magnetic charging cable that connects to USB-C.

I've got a few of their torches and they've exceeded my expectations. The S1R Baton is also an awesome little torch that I have.

Check out their website and you might find something you like.

    • The i1r will barely light up a pond let alone half a lake…

    • Awesome thanks will look into those

  • Olight Marauder 2. 14000 lumens, can switch between flood or throw, lights up a cats eye miles away. Pretty compact for what it is but you won't be chucking it in your pocket lol.

  • Olight currently have a sale on.
