Toolpro Drill Press 350W 13mm $57.49 (Club Price) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Supercheap Auto

580

The ToolPRO Drill Press 350W 13mm is currently $57.49 seems like a really cheap price it is usually $114.99. Its cheap so don't expect outstanding performance, power wise it should be fine for most smaller jobs but it might have some chuck wobble. I own an Aldi press (looks the same and has the same specs) its okay for me but i am not a master craftsman.
SCA have a bunch of other club deals if find anything good i will post it here.

Some reviews of the product on the site, seem to quite bad.

      • +2

Not sure what the bad reviews are about, but I wonder if the issues couldn’t just be ironed out and replaced throughout the lifecycle if the product (like the handle), if it there’s fundamental flaws that can’t be addressed, like motor failure, cracked castings, or a stem that is too flexible?

At least it’s covered by a warranty, and there’s a brick and mortar store n every state, so claims should be pretty straight forward.

Edit: review form ‘a qualified Engineer running an Engineering business’ (who shouldn’t be buying this type of product from SuperChrap …really?):

        PROBLEMS
        1. Table clamp is on the wrong side plus it does not clamp up tight as they have bored the table shaft hole too big compared to the 46mm vertical shaft and so it is too loose to clamp properly
        2. Table is not level when set on zero mark
        3. Plastic cover over chuck does not fold up out of the way so you need 3 hands to hold up cover, hold bottom of chuck, hold top of chuck to undo a drill
        4. Plastic pulleys do not run true
        5. Return compression spring binds when drilling
        6. Locknuts in front of compression spring cover always loose due to being on a split shaft

$57 for a drill press. prob not going to be the best

  • +17

Probably a good option to start out - if you use it a bit and find it's not up to scratch you can flog it on Marketplace for $30 and upgrade and you're out $27 and will have learnt a bit about what you need in a drill press. If you don't use it, you probably didn't need a more expensive one to start with.

    • +12

$30 on Marketplace seems to be the real deal

      • +4

The true ozbargain was on Marketplace the whole time!

Assumption is it survives that long 😆

2nd hand toolpro drill press. Still works. Handle broken. Need to jam a screwdriver into it to get it going properly.

Watch the punters line up for it.

    • +4

Problem is most punters would be asking $75 on marketplace 😂

    • Is that the one where they show the 1970s long-haired Greens voter getting his scalp ripped off?

Gasweld has a decent one that they supply TAFEs with. https://www.gasweld.com.au/532216-toolex

Also I used this on a commercial job to core 100 holes into stainless steel on site: https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/d590

    Hard to beat $57 though.

Far out… don't be suggesting that decent stuff that doesn't wobble from day one… dontcha know this is the Aldi landfill generation. Buy once, never use, and if you do, it stuffs every job and leaves your embarrassed grandkids with the bill to cart it all away to landfill after you fall off the perch.

    Practically nothing but "useless" reviews.

Compared to an Ozito at $99 which is fantastic (i own one) I know which id choose, even at nearly double the price.

    • +2

You were very lucky with your ozito drill press, I had to return mine because chuck wobble was horrendous. I was getting more precise tighter holes holding a hand drill. When I returned it to Bunnings they were like "ah another one" - it seems that it is a common problem.

      • I spoke too soon

      • +1

They probably dropped it off the truck onto the carpark asphalt upon delivery which corrected the mandatory bearing wobble.

    • good info thanks

Tried both this and the Ozito, both had too much runout out of the box for my liking.

Picked a quality old one up from Marketplace for $100 and never looked back.

    • Yeah, I got a quite nice looking Aldi one a couple of years ago (with digital RPM set point and readout, laser positioning etc) but the couple of times I've actually needed to use it to drill accurate holes, I found the runout much too high. I've been meaning to see if I can disassemble the spindle and chuck to try to get it a bit more true.

  • Their own promotional video never shows them actually drilling 'through' anything.

They show the initial 2-3s then cut away……

No one wants to watch a 18 minute video.

      • LOL.

    • Probably didn't want to show the material helicopter when the finger vice gave way. Or maybe it stalled as per one of the comments.

  • Borrowed my friend's Ozito 550W dirll press, it's very weak. Do not waste your money on these toys. Cry once for a better one.

  • I own an older model, a "ROCKWELL Series" and mine has aluminum pulleys…
Its great for what it is.

Apparently from what I can gather from a review This one has Plastic Pulleys lol

in saying that for $57 you cant go wrong for the odd job here and there.

    • If the odd job requires accurately drilled holes then I'd say shop somewhere else otherwise it will end in swearing

    • Rockwell owner too. Bought for a project where I wanted accuracy re perpendicularity and it performed well
Has been used a couple of times since.
I mounted it to a piece of old kitchen bench to reduce rocking if placed on uneven ground as first project was drilling 10 or so blind holes in each of two 6m lengths of timber to make monkey bars
      .

  • The whole is less than the sum of its parts.

  • I've been down this road and considered the cheap units up to the second hand old workshop clunkers, and ended up going with a handheld drillmate in the end. Has proved super convenient and reliable: https://www.timbecon.com.au/milescraft-drillmate-drill-attac…
