    Beautiful

      Nothing will beat the OG.

I kinda want this because it's so ugly, it's cool.

And I've been having a will-they-won't-they abusesive relationship with this one for like a year now, everytime it's on sale I almost buy it and then I don't.

Blacked out Speedtimer is cool. The black Alpinist sold out quick, briefly considered it but then realised I've worn my OG green one twice, maybe 3 times. Gonna be responsible and not buy anything

      • I don't know why.. and it's not me being a watch snob… But I don't think anyone does a Pepsi as good looking as the Rolex GMT master ii.
And as such I have never bought a Pepsi dial. I don't like to buy something where the is a better looking version of something similar out there lol.. I'm weird like that I guess.

I guess that makes me responsible and never buy a Pepsi watch either. I'll never afford the Rolex so that seals the not buying watch part .

        • +1

Omega has the best looking Pepsi and it's relatively unknown
          https://monochrome-watches.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Om…

I love this thing! Also looks superb on bracelet

        • Not a Rollie fan but I don't mind the GMT. Might grab one later this year. But I've always had a soft spot for the milgauss because it's interesting

          • @rosebank: Hahaha I'm the same, the only 3 Rolex I would buy if I had the money would be, milgauss. GMT master in Pepsi and Daytona in plain steel

            • @maverickjohn: I can get pretty much any Rolex except Daytona. I also have to help my friend get an explorer. So I'll prob have to rock 3-4 watches on each arm when I fly back from HK. The blue dial white gold sub is nice too but it's a sub

              • @rosebank: Oh wow…you hold some influence.
I wasn't completely honest.. I went to a Rolex dealer to put my name for a GMT master ii 4 years ago.
The dealer from both J Farren price and from the Rolex dealer in Sydney both said that I would have to buy something less popular first as they would only give those to their customers who have had previous purchases as there is a waitlist…
                So I abandoned Rolex completely.
They recommended the yacht master as a starting point.. I said forget about it

                • +2

@maverickjohn: Nah, my uncle is the one with influence. That's why I don't like Rolex, even before the waitlist, buy a shit model that doesn't sell before you can buy what you want "business model". I might get a couple just to flip (yeah Idgaf call me names blah blah) because if you're willing to drop 25k or whatever a boring old sub, then you deserve to be ripped off. I would only only help 2-3 people in my group friends buy a rollie. One told me his experience trying to get an explorer of all things, so I told him to tell JFP to eat a dick and I'll get him one. I might get a used milgauss if the price is right, but (profanity) Rolex

                  • +2

@rosebank: No I completely support people who want to buy and flip because of this.. but now Rolex have a black list which makes it annoying. They are tracking people who flip them off. So I got discouraged.
I might have to squirm my way to be your friend. One day I'll probably go looking again. But don't want to be screwed over with waiting list…

                    • +2

@maverickjohn: Just buy different watches, so many better ones. I rarely buy Swiss, I prefer German or Japanese, but my first Swiss watch was an Ikepod Hemipode because it looked cool and I like Marc Newson, and cost me 1.7K about 15 years ago. I have a few Braun watches because I like Dieter Rams. I couldn't care less about "status" watches, I just buy what I like, even if it's a Snoopy Timex

                      • +1

@rosebank: I'm with you… But as above the only Pepsi watch I like is the GMT master ii.. I probably won't get a Pepsi watch if I don't get that.
I'm hoping to have predominantly GS in my collection as I think their quality is unrivalled. Their finish is just incredible.
I won't get the milgauss as I already got a cheaper replacement of that. The ball engineer 3 in ice blue.
                        https://www.gnomonwatches.com/products/engineer-iii-marvelig…

                        • +3

@maverickjohn: GS is great, just wish they had better designs. Love my snowflake, and only cost me 7k from an AD, no waitlist

                  • @rosebank: Oh wow that’s pretty lucky.
Can I be your friend? 😜

Nah actually I have to be responsible and save up for a home deposit.
Yeah I hate how Rolex makes you jump through these hoops instead of meeting demand. Treat your customers right.
I might just finally cave and get a replica one of these days…

              • +1

No wonder I can't get the GMT and Daytona. They are the 2 most popular watches in my specific preference

Lemme stop you there because A&W Root beer is better than Pepsi…

I present the Rolex GMT-Master II 126711CHNR ‘Root Beer’ edition (or alternatively, the Noctua edition for the PCMR guys lol)

          • @Serapis:

            root beer

Hopefully not being sarcastic but imo root beer edition is 👌👌

          • @Serapis: Hahaha yeah it's pretty decent. I reckon, as grail watches they are very good.

        • Tag Heuer has a great looking Pepsi too

Or the Casio Duro is also amazing

      • Ugly that one, don't do it lol.
Get your prx over that surely.

Then again you should just get this one https://amzn.asia/d/gs3BmXh

        • +1

nah, I don't want my watch to look like an extra from the new Antman movie :S

            • +1

                @ankor: Looks pretty decent hey.
Pretty big for a Seiko 5 but similar to the skx.

                • @G-rig: yeah and as usual it looks much better in the video.

      • +1

And I've been having a will-they-won't-they abusesive relationship with this one

haha same. if that lume dial version was the one on sale i'd have bought. suits my dork/nerd aesthetic lol

        • +1

That's the best one, but never seen it on sale

          • @rosebank: Would you buy this?
I'm actually thinking of buying the green emerald.
WALDHOFF | Luxury Mechanical Timepieces, via @Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/waldhoff/waldhoff-luxur…

            • @maverickjohn: I dunno, I personally think the green and gold is a bit… gaudy, like something a mafia villain would wear in a in a B movie

The Quantum is kinda interesting because of the case, and $1.2kUSD isn't terrible for a tourbillon, but I wouldn't buy it. It's very cool tho

The Atlas GMT is just a generic diver using a Seiko movement, they're a dime a dozen, heaps of guys doing the same shit including an Aussie one I can't remember the brand. The design is nice, but still over $500AUD. I might have pledged for the white dial if I was drunk browsing the internet looking for stuff to buy, but since I'm just having my first beer of the day so it's a pass on all of them.

If you want weird shit, check out Ciga Design. They currently have 20% off (they always have 20% off), but I have the Series U Black Hole in titanium, the MY (which I bought from Joybuy when it was still XIAOMI Ciga Design in 2018), the C, and Z. The Blue Planet is pretty cool, but looks too much like an Ikepod.

I have almost bought the Series J a few times

I like how they collaborate with different designers around the world. Most are pretty cheap, and they're fun.

  • +1

Nice post WN. Very nice pepsi dial. Size and thickness legit as well. Would consider if I didn't already have my Orient pepsi.

  • Doesnt seem to be the made in Japan model.
    Model number ends in K.
Maybe a slight premium more for the made in Japan model.

    • K is Thailand right?

      • Malaysia I thought.
Wouldn't worry about the difference, some people reckon it adds value but wouldn't bother ever paying $50 more for the same watch.

        • Personal experience only.
My Japan seiko 5 still in action after 2years.
My K model stopped after 13months and needs servicing.
Servicing can cost a bomb in Oz.
Got quoted $250 at a local jewler.

Maybe get it serviced under warranty before warranty runs out via Seiko Australia.

          • @Rrpnothanx: Wouldn't even bother servicing if it's a watch less than about $1500. Especially a seiko, you can get replacement NH35 movements cheap enough.
Either way you'd expect a SEIKO to last 10y.

Cost me a bomb servicing an Oris Aquis. Was nothing wrong with it but the recommend doing it so it doesn't need an 'overhaul' if the oils dry out etc.. every 3-5 years (yeah right), I let it go more like 6-8 years

            • @G-rig: Kanji Days on dial is preffered over Arabic.
              Made in Japan preferred.

              NH35 conversion here i come.
              Lets see what Aliexpress has.
              Thanks

Awesome price for the Pepsi 5, instabuy if I didn't already have one

  • +2

i still feel miserable miss out sarb033 for $300 ish long time ago on ozb

    • Not to worry, there's a new one!. I hate how they're calling it a SARB. It's a SRPD99J.

      • 6r35 vs 4r35 not to mentioned higher price cheaper material :( inflation for real

        • +1

6R15 but the SARB looks soooooo much better. New fake SARB is plain ugly in comparison. Like how did they (profanity) it up so bad? And how are Starbuy calling this a SARB or even a "SARB replacement"? They are completely different watches.

          • +2

@rosebank: Yeah that should be illegal to call it a SARB when it's not a SARB

            • +1

@maverickjohn: Legit calling the cops rn

              • +1

@rosebank: There is a status these SARB held in all our hearts and to tarnish that reputation with this mediocrity is a stab to all our watch hearts

                • +4

@maverickjohn: The cops kept thinking someone stole my Saab and tried to transfer me to the stolen vehicles dept. I said, "no SARB! Transfer me to the fake watch special division!" Then they hung up on me.

                  • +1

@rosebank: Useless. They must think we are Swedish or something…

                  • +1

@rosebank: Have you tried the AFP? I don't think the local LEOs will appreciate the importance.

@O15: Just booked a flight to Canberra. Leaving first thing Monday. This is too important to mess around with phone calls and emails

      • +1

I've seen that model, at first I did a double take, like is that a SARB for 25k yen? Then realised it's solar, which is fine, and still looks better than the SRPD99J Presage. I saw it again browsing JDM watches the other night and got a titaium ana-digi Casio

        • +1

          Yeah pretty good
          That one sounds good mate

        • +1

ooh, link to that titanium casio pls!

Nicest watch is the Bulova wilton https://starbuy.com.au/bulova-wilton-gmt-mens-automatic-watc…
    From this sale that is.

    • That's a different watch right? AT0200-05E vs CA4500-32A and CA0770-81L?

      • sorry, you are right, my fault

  • Nice watch and good price! Colors a bit too similar to my favourite watch or I'd be more tempted

  • Hey Watchnerd, can you negotiate a good deal on the black GMT?

    • Do you mean this one?

      • Got that email too. Thanks Deepak!

  • +1

    Thanks @WatchNerd!

  • How does the SRPD53K compare to the SSK003K (Seiko Batman) - Which would you go for?

  • What would you guys recommend for a daily driver watch from these sales? Asking as someone who knows literally nothing about watches.

    • +5

You should always buy what you like because you're the one who will be wearing it.

      • +1

Anything more than $50 will serve as a good wristwatch. The rest of that $500 price comes from the fashion, feel, brand recognition, warranty, and the features.

        • And quality of parts and movement.
You can get a lot for $100-300, can't see you'd get anything half decent other than rubbish for $50.

          • -1

            @G-rig: Simply not true.
A $50 Casio can hold time better than most mechanical watches, weighs less, has stronger lighting, a few extra features, and runs for at least 10 Years. Objectively speaking it is not rubbish, it's very very very good. It is only your perspective that it is rubbish. The quality of parts you're thinking of is just your view, we're talking about keeping a simple time here.

There's a lot different between a $500 Seiko and a $50,000 Rolex, but that's in theory. In practice they aren't that different. It's not the same difference you see between a VW Polo versus a Porsche GT3.

Likewise, a $500 Seiko really isn't going to give you something that you won't be getting from a $50 Casio. The difference is in the perception (ie/ this cold, hard, and heavy steel -feels- premium compared to this light, soft, and warm polymer).

            • -1

@Kangal: Yeah you said more than 50$ but you get the idea. Also depends if you're taking about autos or quartz. Not disagreeing that most cheap quartz modules should keep decent time.

Doesn't sound like you're even comparing the same thing (ie cheapest Casio vs $500 Seiko), by just saying they are all watches. That analogy is directly comparable, some may day a Rolex is a Lamborghini of watches.

Anyway depends what you want, just get whatever you're happy with.

              • @G-rig: Well, if you take a Lamborghini to the asphalt, you will see there's a big difference compared to a Toyota Corolla. Acceleration, Stability, Top Speed, Braking, Cornering, etc etc. Comparing a $500 Seiko to a $50,000 Rolex, there isn't that performance difference, at least to not an observable degree. One is not keeping time better than the other. The glass is just as clear on both. The steel is just as durable (if I were to strike it with an axe).

A $50 Casio is going to keep time better than a $50,000 Rolex. Or at the very least comparatively equal. In objective measures, the Casio is the superior product. If an alien were to judge. It is merely the subjective means where homosapiens buy a Rolex instead of a Casio.

So what does all this word-salad mean?
It means that WatchNerd is correct and I agree with him; buy what you want to wear. It's not about the performance or features, it's about the fashion. Basically the only sense of (mainstream) jewellery that men have compared to women (big industry; in necklace, bracelets, rings, anklets, earrings, piercings, etc etc). Not to mention fashion in general.

                • -1

                  @Kangal: Get whatever.
                  They are exactly proportional.
Like anything.. get what you pay for..
                  Audio, jewellery, watches, cars, property.

You don't need to convince anyone just yourself brah.

                • +1

                  @Kangal:

The glass is just as clear on both.

Except the Rolex will have a sapphire crystal and the $500 watch might not. Which is pretty crap for a watch at that price point. Many don't. Plenty do.

In objective measures, the Casio is the superior product.

Even better, spend a bit more than $50 and you can get watches with Bluetooth/GPS time sync… virtually perfect time accuracy, providing they receive their time signals.

For "perfect" accuracy, you could also get a radio-sync watch. But, they only sync in latitudes from Brisbane up, in my experience.

Then there are High-Accuracy Quartz watches. You won't get a HAQ watch for $50, but you don't need them if the above time-sync methods are working. If you do, then +/- 10 seconds per year is what they offer.

    • +1

This would be a great daily watch. A little on the chunky side but very versatile and wearable.

      • Not a fan of mesh, it's a specific look.. kind of classic but pretty dressy for daily wear (wouldn't look good with t-shirt and shorts etc).

    • Get one that you can afford to get scratched and dinged.

There’s no point having to live your life dancing on eggshells wearing it.

      • +1

Nah get a nice one & a cheaper beater. it's always good to come up with reasons why you need another watch.

    • -1

i wouldn't rush into buying something from this sale just yet. but avoid buying watches from fashion brands like tommy hilfiger, armani etc.
find out whether you want a mechanical or quartz (nothing wrong with quartz, especially solar-powered quartz e.g. Citizen Eco Drives); analog, ana-digi, or entirely digital, metal bracelet or fabric strap (if unsure get the bracelet as it's harder to find a matching bracelet later). get something with decent water resistance - 50m should be fine for most but i prefer 100m minimum unless it's a dress watch.

also, have a look at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/watch to get an idea of vast array of watches out there, previous prices and discussion. don't be afraid to ask more questions!
