    Coon cheese tasted better.

Shame they removed them from the shelves.

Go woke go broke. They should have kept the inventor of the process’s name. It had historic and actual value. Cheers means nothing.

There are loads of crap brand names why is this one so different? Its crazy to me that so many people want to get offended on behalf of someone who has been dead for almost 100 years and had no idea it was named after him in the first place.

If you want to be angry at anybody surely it would be the people who have used the name as a slur for decades which is why the corporation wanted to change it in the first place? If Australians hadn't turned it in to a slur then nobody would have complained.

It's funny how things like racism and discrimination are tossed around for minority groups but it's okay they discriminated upon the business and inventor for the crime of simply being born into a family with that last name.

Key to lowering discrimination is making everyone treated equally, no one is given special treatment.. annoys me some of the same people after equality also want to have a spotlight on them which isn't how it works.

Sales dropped after the name change but they were cornered, sales would've also dropped if they didn't change.

Business chooses to change the name of its cheese.

          Conservative snowflakes: THATS DISCRIMUNASHUN!!!!!

          LOL

      • -2

Absolutely no-one cares about the name of cheese. Just people looking for something to be outraged about. And the taste is still the same, who’s out there claiming “oh no the taste has changed at the same time as the name change”. Faux outrage.

        • +4

I think you'll find the people who were looking for something to be outraged at were the ones that wanted the name changed. That's why most people think it is ridiculous. Difficult to comprehend that you fail to comprehend that.

          • @Bdawg: The group that wanted the name changed as it was ruining their lives and the group who’s lives have now been ruined by the name change both suck.

          • +3

@Bdawg: I think you'll find the people who are looking for something to be outraged at are the ones pretending that changing the name of a cheese has impacted their lives in any way.

      • Lol, do they seem broke to you? I do love how easy it is to trigger snowflakes these days. Just have to change the name of cheese XD

        • +2

do they seem broke to you?

Leaving politics aside, they recorded a $54.4m annual loss after they changed, and before they changed, a $30.6m net profit (2021). Compare to Bega Annual Report 2022

Even in the current cost of living crisis, Bega Cheese recorded $7.3 million profit in the half-year financial results (22/23)

The writing is on the wall for anyone who can read it.

Btw you realise it was snowflakes who were outraged by a dead guy's last name and demanded the change? Not sure if that's helping your point lol.

          • @pennypincher98: Lol. "Saputo Revenues in fiscal 2022 totalled $15.035 billion, up $741 million or 5.2%, as compared to $14.294 billion for last
fiscal year." But yes, you having no cheese on your toastie anymore has totally showed them mate. Going broke tomorrow. Writing is on the wall. Everyone else is triggered but the bloke who stopped eating cheese because its name changed etc. etc.

You lot are hilarious "The writing is on the wall for anyone who can read it." which apparently doesn't include conservative cheese snowflakes XD

  • They're owned by the Canadians with a market cap over $10 bn now anyway and they flat out don't give a shit about ' heritage' nor about any boycott… Because it won't make a dint on profit

not surprised of the price drop, my local coles had extra large wide shelf area of cheers cheese , like a new product launch, but not many empty spaces so probably not selling well.

Coon was a premium brand and priced as such ….. people have moved to other premium brands or just buy cheapest ….. but it might be a long time for cheers to get its market share back and might need a lot of discounting for a long time so that people change their habits …..

…or it may be that consumers are actively avoiding the brand.

must be bad being a a school kid in the USA and teacher asks you to write an essay on what you did on your summer break “ i visited my Uncle Ben and Aunt Jemima “ “mark - D”

    • +1

TBH that's a pretty bad essay.

      • it is bad , should be “ i spent the holidays with jemima and ben, jemima is my fathers’ sister and ben is my mother’s brother “

  • +4

Haven't purchased it since the Coon name change. But it really was the best for toasties. Melts way better than Bega etc.

    • +6

I find it hilarious that you would consciously purchase a product you like less purely due to a word on the packet. I hope the average toasties are worth dying on this hill.

      • +2

That's absolutely not the point and you know it.

        • “Haven't purchased it since the Coon name change” seems pretty clear cut no? The name change made him not buy it any more.

          • @smartazz104: Are you simple or just pretending? I can't tell.

      • there was a gap on the shelf during the name change so i tried other cheeses , so would buy cheers if it’s really cheap, otherwise it’s actually expensive compared to other cheeses …and people then think about the brand whereas in the past it was just habit …… for some that hate the nanny state approach or have political correctness fatigue unless it’s cheaper they might be making a statement ….. nike and bud light using transgender influencers have had some backlash which has made some customers question the brand image …. brands are worth a lot , i’m a guy so don’t wear sports bras or drank bud light so didn’t worry me , …… coca cola protects their brand as does nike 3 striped fiercely …. the value of a company is in the brand not the product ……

  • +4

sales for what was coon cheese has gone from $54m profit to $30m loss since name change , they have laid off 75 workers and closed a plant …… wonder if any of the job losses were in marketing ….

    • Have any of the other “brand name” cheeses seen an increase in profit over the same time period?
