Florsheim Ceduna Cognac Chelsea Boots $160.97 (RRP $183.96) Delivered/ C&C/ in-Store ($12.95 Express Delivery) @ MYER

UK sizes 7-11 available.

I regularly wear a pair of RM William Comfort Craftmans (wide) used in all conditions for more than a decade and gone through one full resole and heel repair via their send in process. I have been looking for a pair of wide brown or tan dress boots and unfortunately the current price of RMs, even with sales, is now above my budget and overkill for intended use.

These are the best casual/former boots I found and also come in sizes for wider feet. They are not as hard wearing as RMs - I would not put it through the same hardship at work, farm properties, wet weather, etc. They did not require a break-in period (RMs were at least a month), are lighter, the rear and sole is very comfortable and overall I am considering a second spare pair. The RMs have the advantage of a tougher build and higher uppers.

I also tried several other pairs including Hush Puppies, Wild Rhino, Kenji, Blaq, Aquila and outside Myer stores such as Windsor Smith and was dissatisfied either with the stitching, sole comfort, narrow or failure point design or uncomfortable cardboard-feeling upper rears (especially with the cheaper boots). The Myer sales rep also recommended these over Hush Puppies based on overall comfort and durability.

Original price was $229.95 however most other stores such a Florsheim themselves currently have it near the $183.96 mark.

Other colours available at different stores for various prices include:

  • Coffee
  • Black
  • Nero
  • Dark brown

    Not much discount.

Will these last as long as RMs?

    • Not a chance in hell. Florsheim’s are glued crap that could fail anyone from a few weeks onwards depending on luck/poor QC.

Yea, so rather stick with RM and calculate cost/usage year rather than upfront IMO

      • What's your opinion on Rodd & Gunn?

        • I recently got a pair of Rodd and Gunn boots and in my opinion they're far better than the Florsheims I had. The leather is thicker, they're soft and the colouring of the leather seems more durable.

Mind you I intentionally chose the style made in Portugal, not the Chinese made ones.

          • @PeteM: How can you tell which ones are made in Portugal? I was eyeing these for reference (in Tan)

            • @Omk4r123: Probably only by looking at them in person if it's not on the listing. In saying that, I got the Murphy's Road boots and they state country of origin in the listing online.

      • I think I got a bit over a year before mine fell apart on the soles. They're also very cheap leather.

No, I know someone who has had theirs for twenty plus years and has theirs resoled and repaired via a cheaper third party once every several years and it looks as good as new (except the sole is a slightly different lighter colour than the original and thicker as per his preference).

I have had mine (RMs) for over a decade and though they say the quality has changed over time I have only had to repair mine once via RM (you can drop them off at any store) and this is after using them for almost everything. Work, shopping, visiting in-laws out in the countryside, occasional sale yards for work and once riding a family friends horse even. I no longer wear them out in the rain when I can. I have a pair of heavy work Blundstone now for that though those ones are too heavy for anything else.

So long as you get the right fit - I require the wider fit range - and a bit of breaking in as the leather is very stiff for the first few weeks they are very handy and comfortable.

Spend as much time needed to get the correct sizing as my missus wears Adelaide RMs and after a couple of years needs thick socks for comfort.

These Florsheim’s are more dress shoes for casual, office and semi formal wear ie blue jeans or bone or blue coloured pants. At this price range the leather is thinner all round though I find it more comfortable than the several I tried out by far and the soles and upper ankle areas are not as deep or high as RMs.

These are cheap Asian made glued shoes. You get what you pay for.

  • Not post worthy … like seriously shit is on special every day at Myer because their RRP is so high. Next we’ll have people posting Harris Scarf sales
