Was looking for random codes to try and apply for discount for PRX Powermatic 80 as a friend was looking for a deal and knows I spend WAY too much time bargain hunting.

Found code T12VIPCJQUPK which discounted the PRX - but also realised this code seems to apply to RM Williams gear, just tried to add a belt and CC's from my wishlist to cart and it discounted fine…

Im doing it via app, and cant find any other restrictions eg min spend, whats included/excluded but thought it was quite interesting as both the PRX Powermatic 80 and RMW gear were excluded with the last few codes I've been trying.

YMMV.

Powermatic 80 has been cheaper before but with some pretty deep discounting of iconic cards over the last 12 months might work out better this way.
Iconic returns are generally much easier too (but not sure how they go with watches).

Wear those once, then add them to the growing polution problem, aka the trash heap.
I have a pair of RM Williams that's been resoled twice. 10 years old and still like new with some TLC. Also, please support high quality Australian businesses, not some overseas sweatshops.

or wear them every day and then recycle them (with some TLC).

        • Have you ever got blemishes fixed? I bought a new pair with defects (sole and blemish on leather) and looking to see if long term owners have experience with buffing out the imperfections.

If I have the option of not supporting a communist regime like China through my purchases, I take it. Most of their leather goods are of laughable quality too. I just bought an RM Williams bag with this code. Happy to have made the right ethical choice and it looks beautiful too. Thanks.

        • Which bag mate

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Well they call it a black briefcase, so not exactly a bag, but I plan to use it casually.

            • +10

@JeBs: The biggest irony here is that excluding their boots and a few specific belts, the rest of their gear is imported i.e. made in that communist regime. That includes your black briefcase: https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/rmwilliams-briefcase-black-ful…

              "Imported"

              A bit embarrassing aye

              • +2

@dogsryummy: Disappointing. But where’s the evidence it’s imported from a communist regime, let alone China? Sounds like you’re jumping the gun, as the webpage just mentions “imported”.

If the leather is not Australian, Italian or French, I’m cancelling for certain. Why on earth would anyone pay this much for a 100% China product?

                • -1

@JeBs: "Imported" is the standard terminology for posh brands to say "Made in China", or worse. If it was made anywhere half respectable, it would be advertised front and center.

People pay this much for a China product because they don't know better, obviously.

                  • +3

@bobjane: No evidence that your claims apply to this RM Williams briefcase. However, I’ll contact the manufacturer to confirm and report back.

    Not bad on the powermatic.

    • Not my cup of tea - I get the appeal now.. but yeah idk

      • -1

        They are pretty ugo

        • And a bit boring but can’t deny the value if you want Swiss automatic

      • +2

They are based on a classic style, the integrated bracelet and butterfly clasp is the main feature - great wrist roll the way it catches the light. Can't argue with the powermatic 80, great movement.

I bought a quartz version (better value almost half the price), but sold it as the lug-lug is pretty long. The date window is also pretty small so would be better without one. I suggest people try both of them on, they are a good option if you're after that style.

    • A 35mm version is being released soon if you are sitting on the fence and worried about sizing.

    • I just tested too, it worked. CC wide in chestnut

  • You should be able to create a new Iconic account and use HEYICONIC75 to get an additional $75 off

Doesn't stack for me. Does it for you?

      • It doesn’t stack, you need it to be a store level discount and then you can stack. I think I’ve only seen one store level discount (as opposed to cart level discount) once in last 12 months for rmw

    • Would pull the trigger on the PRX if that was the case

  • Have the prices for these boots gone up? Ten fiddys seems steep

    • Rrp went up ages ago mate. Long time since sub $400

    • Prices increase yearly, it's the standard luxury goods model of continually increasing prices to drive up demand. i.e. make you buy today or else it will be more expensive tomorrow.

      Ask me how I know…. looking at my wife's 10+ Hermès/Channel/LV/Prada handbags

  • I bought mine in 2021 for sub $400, wtf happened to the price of these?

    • Well for one thing, almost all resellers were axed other than Iconic and David Jones and RMW, and they put the rrp as well…

      • +3

yeah they were putting up the price 3 times in a yeah, that's just price gouging.
Got a facorty seconds pair from DFO years ago for $300-350, wouldn't buy RM's again.

        • andrew forrest's greed knows no bounds.

    • How come I didn't see you post them for sub $400?

    • +1

The RRP was well above $400 in 2021, must have purchased via a 3rd party like nungar or iconic with a sale on to get them at that price.

      RRP in 2017 was 545
      RRP In 2020 was 595

I got code not valid error…

My cart is well over 2k (bunch of rmw gear and the powermatic ) and clicked in via CR app which opened the iconic app…

      Edit:

Full t and c basically says it excludes all the good stuff (Tissot watch is shipped direct by partner, and the RMW stuff is part of the outright excluded item (and is shipped by RMW anyway))

Minimum spend $175. Apply unique code at checkout. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer, voucher code or sale items. Full priced items only. Prices are in AUD. • Don't have the app so can't check. Could be a CR error?

        https://www.cashrewards.com.au/the-iconic

Edit: based on your exclusion list it probably works on the Aquila boots I was looking at. CR needs to lift its game. Simple job to add 'Exclusions apply.'

  • people always mention how great RMs are because they are repairable, that's wonderful but who wears the cost and what are some of the likely costs over the life of the boots? for example, if I was to have the boots re-soled once every 4-5 years, how much am I up for and is it a painful process to go through? Thanks

    • I always suspected that actually those who are on the big dollars have some creative accounting to get new CC’s every financial year as a tax write off anyway

    • Not cheap, but not horrific. https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/footwear/boot-repair-service.h…

Just had my Sydney boots resoled recently, was painless, dropped them off in store (or get a pouch sent to you) and the were delivered to my house about a month later. Ended up changing them to the comfort craftsman sole from the leather sole, as I went through the leather sole in about 18 months.

      • +1

Thanks. Dang $165 for new sole and heels is as much as a half decent pair of new shoes. lol $140 for the tugs 😂

        • That's actually a pretty good price for a full resole. It's a lot of work.

    • You pay of course. Cost depends on your bootmaker and the sole material. If buying a leather-soled boot get a topy sole added before they wear too much. Safer and will save your sole and possibly your dignity. Simple job so shouldn't take long at all. Read about that here: https://www.evans.com.au/advice/rubber-sole-additions/ Can't comment on replacement costs.

    • +1

RM Williams is very transparent with repair costs:
      https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/footwear/boot-repair-service.h…
(although I know people who have been charged significantly less than this / not been charged at all for some repairs)

Im at ~4years of pretty much daily wear and no where near needing a resole or reheel (rubber soled ones). From those I know who have had repairs done its been really simple, drop the boots off then get a call to come pick them up when done. I am Adelaide based though which probably makes a difference.

    • +2

RMs are great because they are probably the one of very few shoemakers in the world that still makes one-cut chelsea boots, with full grain leather (iirc), and goodyear welts. And they're still made in SA and survived the LVMH takeover. They were legit farmer boots before the Young Liberals hopped on the wagon in the past couple decades.

I bought my first pair of Craftsmans in the late 90s, early 00s and got a free oilskin jacket for $300. I flipped the jacket on ebay for $150 so essentially I got the boots for $150. I polish them and look after them. They're still good as new and the leather sole still has some life in them.

Shoe nerds all over the world froth over these boots, and these boots, despite the jokes, have an exceptional reputation for quality internationally.

So yeah the prices have gone up, due to many factors, but are well worth the price.

      • +1

Thanks for the history and insights!

      • +1

Yeah got some 6-7y ago from DFO for $300-350. Wish i didn't get leather soles though, took forever to break in and the small toes copped it. Comforts would have been good off the bat I think, and a bit more generous. Should really sell them for something even if it's not much.

        • Just take the L and get them resoled. I like the cleaner look of the leather soles, and have survived 10+ near blackout-drunk weddings over the years. Also banned from wedding parties for life.

  • Literally wore my chestnut comfort craftsman to work everyday now I can swap it around with a new black one, cheers op.

If you have QFF Points spare, The Iconic gift cards are 20% off on the store.
Maybe not the best way to use points, but 86,100 points for $500 is better than 107,630…

    • yes.

        • Is there a limit to the number of Teens GCs you can use? Conscious that I would need to purchase 10x $50 GCs to maximise the discount.

          • @RyanMK: I bought 1x $500 from wollies, got the 20x rewards and succesful

            • @Flameo: Is that a special this week?

              • @RyanMK: It is, variable cards are 20x points this week at woolies.I bought 1 x $500 card and paid the remainder on card. you can only use one gift card per transaction

  • Anyone purchased the saddler bag before? And if so does it tend to retain that beautiful shape?

  • Thanks! Grabbed a pair in Chestnut.

  • just went to buy them - not working anymore :((
