Why in gods name do companies still think that white-goods need wifi?
IOT - connect all things!
Marketing gimmick
So they can remind you to get a service done (at an approved and qualified service technician of course that just so happens to be associated with the maker) and stock up on supplies (which can be ordered direct from the makers on a subscription basis) and so on. It's all about wringing some more cash out of you.
Our dishwasher is hooked up to wifi and the one thing that's convenient about it is that if (when) something goes wrong, it tells you the problem in plain English via your phone, rather than a series of blinking lights that you have to decode. Thankfully that hasn't happened yet. Otherwise, it's completely unnecessary. I get a notification it's finished a load. That might be useful for a clothes washer, so you don't forget to unload it? Same thing can be achieved by setting a timer on your phone when you load it though.
This sounds like hell. I imagine you need an app, and an account, and you need to keep logging into the app, and you get emails from a white goods vendor, and their partners.
I’m guessing to receive updates on the wash cycle.
Would be handy for people with large homes, or when their washer is in the basement.
Why do they need date of birth?
And why address when all rhey need is the winners address which they can get after the comp…
