Will ping your location to the police if you snap any laughing cabbages

Well it doesn't seem to go well with Australian plants, couldn't even identify my leopard tree correctly after 5 tries. One plant was right out of 10

    • +2

      Thanks, moving on.

What about Google lens within Google photos (still available on iOS I believe)

    • +14

To be fair, it only says it will identify plants - nothing about "correctly" identifying….

      • +5

        it will identify plants

App: "Yep, that sure is a plant!"

      • Under promise over deliver

can you try iNaturalist and report if that does it better ?

      https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/seek_app

We have used this successfully in many travels and love clocking up trophies, it's become a game in the family to identify new Species, Genus in our account.

Great to get kids into it as well.

      • Yeah I use Seek as well. Love it. It sucks at any eucalyptus/gum trees but good for almost everything else.

    • Yeah was going to ask. Does it handles Aus natives. If not why bother

  • +1

Yeah I tried it on an avocado plant twice and it got it wrong both times calling it something different both times.

  • +5

    Same shit google lens? Lol

  • Didn’t know i needed this

  • +1

I use a similar app on Android and it's amazing. I know nothing about plants and moved house. Helped me identify lots of fruit trees and other plants very accurately.

  • Not sure how accurate this app is. Tried it twice on two different plants and got incorrect results. But I guess it's free, so go nuts OzB!

    • +1

If the friends and family you are impressing don't know the name of the plant either, just make up a name and they will be impressed anyway.

The camera app on iOS already has this built in. Just take a photo, press the information button (which will have little stars on it if it's identified the plant), and press lookup plant. Seems to work pretty well. Not surprised the iOS app is free!

    Google lens is free..

      Thanks…

      Google lens correctly identified Oregano.

Oddly the capital city is not Portland, but Salem.

        • alongside the Willamette River.

        • +2

Someone probably asked "which city should be our capital?" and they misheard it as "witch city".

  • +2

    It's crap.

I just tried it for Oregano and it came back with Chrysosplenium ???

Arguably a better app is Seek. It identifies not only plants but bugs and animals as well

Use iNaturalist instead for wild plants - much better and vetted by humans. Also free

    • Use iNaturalist

With or without clothes on ?

I use this: https://www.picturethisai.com/ for quite a while now, does the job.
It asks to subscribe to a plan but you can cancel the prompt and continue.

    • I find this app the best one I've used

Grabbed one, don't think it'll be able to shake PictureThis' dominance.

  • Couldn't even ID the leaf in their logo

  • Or just use bing visual search using camera

  • I use this one on Android. Just need to close the popup windows to use free. Great accuracy https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.danatech.xi…

  • Not free anymore… seems like I didn’t miss out on much

  • Expired, back $4.49 now

  • installed and used once, it’s asking for payment now 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
