Hmmm “this coupon is unique and can only be used once” 🤔

  • Never prev looked at these echo devices much as all in with Google Home.

But just bought a Ring 3 doorbell on the recent Costco deal, and this might work well as an additional chime.

Anyone using this with a Ring doorbell? Working well?

    • Yes. You can configure Alexa to announce ring notifications via these.

I am using Echo dot with my ring door well and it gives notifications for both Motion detection and on buzzer . I am also using Amazon Echo show 5 which shows the live previews on bell door press , which is a added bonus . If you can afford little more or wait for Echo show to go on sale . Worth money spend .

      • Does it need to be connected to your phone all the time to work as a chime or just for the set up? I want to use mine so everyone in the house is alerted to the rings and not just people with their phones connected to it.

        • Only for initial setup

    • better to have a echo 5 or echo 8, so it can display the video once someone press the bell

It's a amazing speaker for it's size, My only complaint is that it randomly desyncs from my Chromebook & Alexa will audibly state it! Just a little annoying! Idk? In saying that it seems to work perfectly fine with every other device. Would Definitely recommend at this price.

    • i find this much inferior to google mini on sound quality wise

got 4 of these each for $19 last year. good for cheap intercom system around a large house.

  • Can it be used as a speaker for a phone or laptop without specifically using their streaming apps like Amazon music or Spotify? ie want to play music stored on device

Yea there is bluetooth and aux-in for that.

EDIT: seems everyone has the same code so I dunno if it's unique.

See the first two comments above - whoosh

  • Is there way to link the Echo Dot together with Google Home speakers (they are all on the same WiFi network) to create a single speaker group for streaming music?

    • Nope. Sorry not possible. Totally different ecosystem.

As long as the Echo Dot has bluetooth, it might be possible. Relevant section starts at 26:05:

      • I tested this and it fails to pair with Google Nest Hub. It shows up but just says " Your device wasn't paired" when selected in pairing mode. Other speakers worked fine so suspect Google blocks Dots. How rude :-). Shame as I have a couple of Gen3 Dots in drawer unused.

  • Try mine

  • Is buying an Echo Dot still worth it? I heard it doesn't do much anymore for smart home devices especially TVs

LOL, the code is all the same.

    • hahaha, no one bats an eye

  • I have a home full of Alexas, I'm personally getting nervous that they are offloading stock to then sunset the service in the next couple of years. The team was recently completely gutted and the arm of Amazon that maintains the service is losing billions every year.

Worst case you have a bunch of bluetooth speakers …. but you'd have to imagine the global footprint is significant and nobody is going to give up the reach just yet. Scaled down, sure … but not dead.

  • I bought one of these to replace the V1 I had in my bathroom. The sound improvement and loudness is sooooo much better that I am thinking of ordering a couple more to replace the remaining V1 dots I have in my home.
