28 Degrees MasterCard Frozen? Can’t Spend or Refund

Anyone else having issues with their 28 degrees Mastercard?

Both mine and wife’s cards, separate accounts are not working despite having available credit. Also, a store tried to process a refund back to the card and the refund was rejected.

Problem since 7 April.

Why are you still with that company? Just get a new CC or use a debit card.

Their entire IT infrastructure was compromised. The app is not even updating new purchases. They're experiencing major downtimes on their services since the hack.

      Two words: Price Protection

      • +5

They can have a party with my info and I'll still never give this card and my Coles cards up 😂

        • Even if the card doesn't work any more (as in OP's case)? :)

          • +2

@DoctorCalculon: If the card doesn't work, I would request a new one. The shoppers protection will still be linked.

        • The Coles legacy card with 2 years price protection?

          • @Poor Ass: Yeah, the policy doesn't cancel if you ask for a replacement card, or if the card expires and they send a new one as long as you opted in before the policy got grandfathered. If you cancelled and reapplied then yes.

            • @MeesusEff: Oh I wasn't concerned about that… I was more worried about them suddenly changing the terms and conditions…

I've actually got 3 or 4 cc insurances

There are plenty of people who would not qualify to get another credit card (eg people who were employed when they got their 28 degrees, and now aren't, can't just churn to some other card).

Yes they were hacked, but the info is out there. I honestly don't see the point in cancelling the card, it's like closing the gate after the horse has bolted.

      • +7

        the point in cancelling

        Imagine this:
Everyone cancel their optus and medibank.
Both left with just 1,000 customers in the whole Australia and after a month, closing down as operation cost is just way too high.

        Other companies think:
Oh shite so customers can really punish us if we dont take security seriously. Gov didnt do anything to those companies but wow the power of customers are bigger and real.

        • No one is questioning digital identity. Why bother with Optus and Medibank when people trust government to prove their ID

What did they say when you contacted them?

    • +4

Pfft, you have no hope of contacting them

    • Easter long weekend, gotta wait till Tuesday.

I just used mine this morning - the transaction appears in the Latitude Service Centre portal.

Mine is still working (despite me being on the list of compromised accounts). I just unlock the card (on the app) when I need to use it… I'd suggest your issue has nothing to do with the hack, but I'm only guessing. And fwiw, trying to contact a human at latitude… forget it, they're probably a little busy atm. Good luck!!

Good idea about locking the card, which had not occured to me. Quick question: if I lock the card, not long after a successful purchase when it is still showing as pending, will it risk the pending transaction being cancelled? If you happen to know. Thanks in advance.

      • +1

The pending transaction is not affected… you're all good! 👍

  • +1

Thanks all. Good to know that the card is still working for others, so that's comforting. Would be far more worrying if everyone is reporting frozen account/cards. Very strange situation, and easter long weekend aint helping. Will see what customer service says if they are reachable next week.

Still working but my price protection from 3 week ago still not processed and every transaction lagging for days

    • +3

It's taking about a month now for claims, I just got mine back from 9/3 a few days ago.

      • +2

At least they’re going through them I guess… if it wasn’t for price protection I would have canned the card

        • +1

I was a bit worried that they might can it due to the breach, here's hoping it'll be there for the next 30 years 🤞

        • How often do you use the price protection ? And on what did you use it on ?

          • @lovepub: At least 20 times a year, and anything over $100 lol - I only bother if price drops more than $20, any less not worth jumping through the hoops.

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: If you use Chrome browser the hoops are pretty low as it stores 80% of your details and pre-fills them properly.

I dont bother with less than $5 but I check everything on my spreadsheet once a month as well as OzB alerts for every big ticket item I buy.

I also have a ton of BoardGameOracle alerts and 3Camel alerts.

          • @lovepub: It's a no brainer for games. I pay full price at EB games then claim it later for 60-80% off. Came in pretty handy when my husband was building his pc and didn't have to wait for sales.

            • @MeesusEff: This is smart. Never thought of this. Just afraid it’s a big hassle
Next time I buy a higher priced item , I will keep that in mind

  • Have they used Optus cloud?

We have 4 cards, none of them works but the calls keep coming in!

  • +1

Their customer service line has been down for like 1 month. They are outright not answering any calls unless it relates to fraud or security issues.

  • Could be VPN? 28 Degrees doesn't like my VPN. I usually have to turn it off before completing the purchase otherwise the transaction will fail.

  • Probably locked the cards but forgot they did it.

  • I was overseas in the past couple of weeks and for a few days, it wouldn’t work for Uber/Lyft but I could use it in person.

After a few days, it started working again.

  • Ive just come back from an overseas holiday, I left just as the hacking situation was announced, so no time to apply for a new card with someone else. Had no issues with using the card, despite not having used it since my last overseas trip in 2020. Have checked my statement, and all looks to be in order.

  • Have you paid your latest statement? They like to lock your account about a week after the due date if you forget to make a payment. They won’t tell you about it either, the card will just get declined.

  • No prob with mine, used twice last night.

My GEM visa card has not been working for a week. I've spoken with Latitude a number of times. They clearly have no idea what's going on. I have no confidence that this will be fixed.

    • +1

I just had my 28 degrees card declined today. Had successful transactions yesterday. Yesterday's transactions were mobile wallet and via Uber eats. Today's failed transaction was via a website for food ordering. Once again, I have little confidence that Latitude know what they're doing. Not sure there is any point even calling them to try to find out what is happening.

  • So it seems that large transactions, over $600 are being declined while smaller transactions under $100 are getting through.
Plenty of balance on the card and just cleared the balance last week. No idea why.

  • +1

I had an issue booking accommodation with this card and yes it was over $600. Other amounts are working.

Anyone else replacing their licence and charging to 28?

  • Anyone pay by Bpay, and find that sometimes you get the payment confirmation and sometimes you don’t? I’m both instances, the payment has been successful

  • +1

I've just returned from overseas, the hacking situation happened while I was there so I just kept using it and it had been fine. The last day I got a couple of failed payments for the Uber and then third went through, so not sure what happened there.

  • My 28 Degrees credit card was apparently reported lost/ stolen, and a replacement sent.

I had misplaced my card (I knew it was in the house somewhere), and wanted to try to lock it or report it, but the online and app functionality to do so has been switched off. The only option was to call and I don’t have time for that.

But when I went to try to log in recently, it was asking me to activate my new card, and would not accept my current card details (I had found it).

I requested a supplementary card holder card, which was confirmed but never arrived.

Ended up cancelling my account and will just travel with my debit cards on my upcoming holiday.
