Finally Doing My First Trip Overseas Post Covid

Hey
Planning to do eastern Europe and Italy in mid August for four weeks

Thinking entering Italy Milan and then making my way up north to Poland then coming back.
Countries along the way il visit include
Croatia including split and Dubrovnik
Slovenia
Hungary
Slovakia
Czech-prague
Poland- Warsaw and Krakow

Wondering would that f cheapest option-im getting $2400…and if any else has done it or similar.
Is this too much -i do intend to travel to the regional areas as well
Any advice about rail vs plane vs bus
And particular getting from Italy Rome to Dubrovnik

Also looking to see if anyone recommend any nice countryside to drive though -which would be the best/safe in eastern europe
👍

Driving through Poland is pretty shithouse.

That price seems ok depending on the airline.

    • Not if you're visiting Sułoszowa.

      Thank me later.

Wouldn't it be easier (possibly cheaper?) to fly into Italy and out of Warsaw, unless you plan to visit different cities in those countries on the return leg?

Having driven several thousand km's in Poland i'm not sure what the issue is. The roads are fine, some of the drivers are very open to the idea of overtaking, just let them go.

  • Missing Ukraine and Russia

  • Make sure you come back with your organs intact…I remember watching Hostel and made my mind to not visit Eastern Europe 😆

Wait until you see Wolf Creek.

  • All beautiful places to drive but take it slow and dodge the freeways if you want good views.

There are ferries from Split to Italy, (probably Dubrovnik too) - can save you a return round trip if necessary but repeating it backwards has its own rewards.

In 2019 I hired a car in Italy and drove to Croatia and Slovenia, all the car hire companies had pretty clear boundaries on where you could and couldn’t take the cars. There were definite no go zones with the Italian hire car, Dubrovnik was one of them. I’d definitely look into ferries since you’re going I in summer, these weren’t and option in winter, but should be in the summer months and then look to hire your car in Croatia or elsewhere. Poland is mighty close to Ukraine so you may well have restrictions there re car hire and need to pay more for travel insurance too.

Lots of wonderful things places to see! Enjoy!
